QUESTION TAG

คือวลีที่ใช้ต่อท้ายประโยค เพื่อเปลี่ยนประโยคนั้นให้เป็นคำถาม
ถ้าเทียบกับคำไทยก็จะเหมือนกับคำว่า ใช่มั้ย หรือ ไม่ใช่หรอ

เช่น
He is a teacher, is he? เขาเป็นครูใช่มั้ย

He is a teacher, isn’t he? เขาเป็นครูไม่ใช่หรอ

แม้ว่า question tag จะเป็นสิ่งที่ถูกใช้บ่อย และดูเหมือนจะไม่ซับซ้อนอะไร

แต่ question tag ก็มีรายละเอียดปลีกย่อยหลายๆอย่างที่เราควรรู้ เพื่อที่

จะสามารถใช้ question tag ได้อย่างถูกต้อง

ตัวอย่างการใช้ QUESTION TAG คำอื่นในภาษาอังกฤษก็อย่างเช่น

are they? และ aren’t they?
do you? และ don’t you?
will she? และ won’t she?
should I? และ shouldn’t I?
can he? และ can’t he?
สังเกตว่า question tag จะเป็นการ
นำคำกริยาตระกูล be/do/have หรือคำกริยาช่วย

(เช่น will, should, can) มาใช้คู่กับคำสรรพนาม (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) โดย
จะมีทั้งรูปบอกเล่าและรูปปฏิเสธ

การใช้ QUESTION TAG
การใช้คอมม่า เราจะต้อ
งใช้คอมม่า (,) คั่นระหว่างประโยคหลักกับ

question tag เสมอ

เราจะใช้ He is a teacher, is he?
ไม่ใช่ He is a teacher is he?

การเลือกใช้คำใน QUESTION TAG

เราจะเลือกใช้คำใน question tag ตามประโยคหลัก โดยมีหลักการดังนี้
1. ใช้สรรพนามใน question tag ตามประธานในประโยคหลัก

Tim is your best friend, isn’t he?
ทิมเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีที่สุดของคุณไม่ใช่หรอ

She called you last week, didn’t she?
เธอโทรหาคุณเมื่ออาทิตย์ก่อนไม่ใช่หรอ

2 . ถ้าประโยคหลักใช้ verb to be (is, am, are, was, were) ให้ใช้

verb to be นั้นใน question tag

You are hungry, aren’t you?
คุณหิวไม่ใช่หรอ

He was at the party, wasn’t he?
เขาอยู่ที่งานปาร์ตี้ด้วยไม่ใช่หรอ

ยกเว้นว่าถ้า verb to be ที่ใช้เป็น am การใช้ question tag รูปปฏิเสธ

เราจะนิยมใช้ aren’t I? หรือ am I not? แต่จะไม่ใช้ am not I ?

I am your friend, aren’t I?
ฉันเป็นเพื่อนคุณไม่ใช่หรอ

3. ถ้าประโยคหลักมีคำกริยาช่วย (เช่น can, could, will,

would, should) ให้ใช้คำกริยาช่วยนั้นใน question tag

You can swim, can’t you?
คุณว่ายน้ำได้ไม่ใช่หรอ

She will call you, won’t she?
เธอจะโทรหาคุณไม่ใช่หรอ

รวมถึงคำกริยาช่วยใน continuous tense (is, am, are, was,

were) และ perfect tense (have, has, had) ด้วย

You are doing your homework, aren’t you?
คุณกำลังทำการบ้านของคุณอยู่ไม่ใช่หรอ

Your dad have been there before, haven’t he?
พ่อของคุณเคยไปที่นั่นมาก่อนไม่ใช่หรอ

4. ถ้าประโยคหลักใช้คำกริยาทั่วไปที่ไม่ใช่ verb to be และไม่มีคำกริยา

ช่วย ให้ใช้ do, does, did ใน question tag

You miss him, do you?
คุณคิดถึงเขาใช่มั้ย

She went to the beach with you, didn’t she?
เธอไปทะเลกับคุณไม่ใช่หรอ

5. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็นประโยคคำสั่งหรือประโยคขอร้อง เรามักจะใช้ will

ใน question tag

Stop making noise, will you?
หยุดส่งเสียงได้มั้ย

Please pay attention, will you?
กรุณาให้ความสนใจหน่อยได้มั้ย

6. ถ้าประโยคหลักใช้ let’s เรามักจะใช้ shall ใน question tag

Let’s go to the canteen, shall we?
ไปโรงอาหารกันมั้ย

การเลือกใช้ question tag รูปบอกเล่า/รูปปฏิเสธ
การเลือกใช้ question tag รูปบอกเล่า (เช่น is he?) หรือรูปปฏิเสธ (เช่น isn’t he?)
เราจะต้องพิจารณาใจความที่เราต้องการจะสื่อ ซึ่งแบ่งได้หลักๆ 2 แบบ คือ

1. ไม่แน่ใจ
ถ้าเราคิดว่าสิ่งใดเป็นจริง แต่ไม่แน่ใจ แล้วต้องการถามเพื่อให้อีกฝ่ายช่วยยืนยัน
เราจะใช้ question tag รูปตรงข้ามกับประโยคหลัก ซึ่งก็คือ
ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็นรูปบอกเล่า เราจะใช้ question tag รูปปฏิเสธ

ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็นรูปปฏิเสธ เราจะใช้ question tag รูปบอกเล่า

He is a teacher, isn’t he?
เขาเป็นครูไม่ใช่หรอ
(ผู้ถามคิดว่าเขาเป็นครู แต่ไม่แน่ใจ เลยถามเพื่อให้อีกฝ่ายช่วยยืนยัน)

You didn’t eat my cake, did you?
คุณไม่ได้กินเค้กของฉันใช่มั้ย
(ผู้ถามคิดว่าอีกฝ่ายไม่ได้กินเค้กของผู้ถาม แต่ไม่แน่ใจ เลยถามเพื่อให้อีก

ฝ่ายช่วยยืนยัน)
She can speak English, can’t she?
เธอพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ไม่ใช่หรอ
(ผู้ถามคิดว่าเธอพูดอังกฤษได้ แต่ไม่แน่ใจ เลยถามเพื่อให้อีกฝ่ายช่วย

ยืนยัน)

สำหรับกรณีที่เราถามเพราะไม่แน่ใจ เวลาพูดออกเสียง เราไม่จำเป็นต้องขึ้น

เสียงสูงท้ายประโยค เว้นแต่กรณีที่เราไม่มั่นใจมากจริงๆ

2. ไม่รู้
ถ้าเราถามเพราะไม่รู้หรือไม่แน่ใจเลยจริงๆ เราจะใช้ทั้ง question

tag และประโยคหลักในรูปบอกเล่า

He is a teacher, is he?
เขาเป็นครูใช่มั้ย
(ผู้ถามไม่รู้ว่าเขาเป็นครูหรือไม่)

You met John yesterday, did you?
คุณได้พบจอห์นเมื่อวานใช่มั้ย
(ผู้ถามไม่รู้ว่าเขาได้พบจอห์นเมื่อวานหรือไม่)

This is Siam station, is it?
นี่คือสถานีสยามใช่มั้ย
(ผู้ถามไม่รู้ว่าที่นี่คือสถานีสยามหรือไม่)

สำหรับกรณีที่เราถามเพราะไม่รู้ เวลาพูดออกเสียง เราจะขึ้นเสียงสูงท้ายประโยค

การตอบคำถามที่ใช้ QUESTION TAG

ในการตอบคำถามที่ใช้ question tag เรามักจะตอบด้วย yes หรือ no เช่น ถ้ามี

คนถามเราว่า

She is a singer, isn’t she?
เธอเป็นนักร้องใช่มั้ย
ถ้าใช่ เราอาจตอบว่า

Yes, she is.
ใช่ เธอเป็นนักร้อง
ถ้าไม่ใช่ เราอาจตอบว่า

No, she isn’t.
ไม่ เธอไม่ใช่นักร้อง
