Ironclad was founded on a construction site in 1998 by Ed Jaeger. Ed noticed that while every specialist utilized
dedicated, task specific tools, no one had addressed the special connection between tool and worker. With an
extensive background in motorsports, Ed came from a world where glove performance, fit, and comfort were
vital. It was at that moment that Ed saw his mission - to create gloves that were both protective and driven by
performance, without sacrificing either. Thus was born a new glove technology that incorporated military
grade fabrics, with an unrivaled fit and comfort, that would raise the industry to new standards.
With 27 patents & 95 trademarks worldwide and more pending, Ironclad Performance Wear continues

IRONCLAD PRECISION
GLOVE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Most of our products are machine washable. Please note that the
washing and care instructions are indicated on the care label
inside the glove and may vary by style. For extended durability
and comfort, machine wash and hang dry your Ironclad gloves
on a regular basis. Machine wash on cool. DO NOT use bleach,
machine dry, or use an iron on your Ironclad gloves. Air drying
is recommended in order to keep the size consistent with its
original form from time of purchase.
PROPRIETARY FLAWLESS FIT SYSTEM
When it comes to fit, most glove companies stop at 2
measurements per glove – overall length and width. Not
Ironclad. Our industry leading Flawless Fit is a proprietary
16-point measurement system that is unique to every one of
our glove styles. So what do we measure? Inside index finger
length, top of cuff circumference, knuckle circumference, center
of palm length, just for starters. 16 measurements left glove, 16
measurements right glove. That’s 32 measurements per pair, per
size. All with a tolerance measured at 1/10 of an inch. Why do we
do it? Because it means our gloves will fit like no other glove on
the market. That is the Ironclad Flawless Fit. That is Ironclad.

TESTING & STANDARDS
There are many testing standards that apply to Ironclad work gloves. Below we highlight the three
most common standards: EN 388, ANSI 105 and ANSI 138. For each of our gloves that have been
tested, the test results will be shown using the standard symbols for each governing body.
EN:388 TEST POSSIBLE
OUTCOMES
Originally developed in Europe, EN 388 has expanded to become the global
work glove standard. This standard covers multiple aspects of glove EN388:2016 Abrasion 1-4
safety, including Abrasion, Cut, Tear, Puncture, and Impact. This standard
covers 2 cut tests - the Coup (rotating blade) test and a TDM (straight Coup Cut 1-5, X
blade) test. One point to note is that during the Coup test, if the blade is
dulled, the glove will receive a rating of “X” for this portion of the standard. Tear 1-4

Impact Pass/Fail
ANSI 105 ANSI 105 ANSI 105 ANSI 105 CUT MINIMUM
LEVEL TDM FORCE
Similar to EN 388, ANSI 105 is a common work glove standard that covers CUT ABR PUN
many facets of gloves. ANSI testing is predominantly used in North America, A1 200 grams
but its global presence is growing. The 2 areas that Ironclad primarily tests A7 5 3 A2 500 grams
for are Cut and Abrasion, although the standard also covers puncture, A3 1000 grams
heat, and chemical hazards. The cut test utilizes a TDM (straight) test and 4246g A4 1500 grams
returns a score based on the grams of weight that were required for the A5 2200 grams
blade to cut the fabric with 20mm of blade travel. A6 3000 grams

ANSI 138 TEST POSSIBLE
OUTCOMES
Introduced in 2018, ANSI 138 covers a standard specifically for impact
gloves. The test is performed by dropping a weight at 18 different impact Impact 1-3
points across the fingers and knuckles and measuring the forces at each
point. The mean of the force is then calculated for each zone (fingers or
knuckles) and the lowest mean is used to determine the impact rating for
the whole glove.

IRONCLAD PERFORMANCE TESTING
Being on the cutting edge of glove innovation means venturing into uncharted territories. When it comes to evaluating performance, we
go above and beyond traditional testing – we partner with scientists, leaders and experts in fields ranging from biomechanics to high
tech outdoor gear, and create new ways analyze, evaluate and test performance features of our work gloves. Below we highlight two test
methodologies developed exclusively by Ironclad Performance Wear.
IRONCLAD IMPACT TESTING PEAK IMPACT PROTECTION Multiplication Factor - The additional
impact protection provided by the glove
In 2010, Ironclad collaborated with the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee 3X 150:50
to study impact force reduction, impact testing methods, and the force 10X 1000:100 Peak Impact Force - Required to cause a
levels required to break human hand bones. This Ironclad-exclusive 6X 500:75 fracture when wearing gloves
test evaluates impact forces across the fingers & thumb, across the Peak Impact Force - Required to cause a
knuckles, and at the metacarpal bones (back of hand). Impact forces fracture when not wearing gloves
while wearing a glove are compared to impact forces while not wearing
a glove, providing an easy to understand ‘Protection Factor’ at each
location on the hand.

IRONCLAD GRIP TESTING 7
Ironclad partnered with the design team at Vibram US to develop a
method to reliably and accurately measure the ‘Grip Performance’
provided by a pair of gloves. Each Ironclad glove is tested to a modified
version of international test standards ISO 13287 and ASTM F2913. We test
each glove palm for grip on smooth metal, wet, and oily surfaces. Each
glove is evaluated and given a grip rating for each surface, giving you
added confidence when choosing gloves for all environments.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT GLOVE
There are many hazards on a jobsite, so you must consider additional factors when deciding on the right hand protection. Below is a list of
important glove features to consider when making that decision. Be sure to analyze ALL hazards, environmental factors, and human interface
requirements at each jobsite and workplace. These include:
Grip - a critical factor for all tasks, the right grip will help prevent objects from slipping COLOR CODED CUT RATINGS
& slicing hands, and significantly reduce hand fatigue.
≤ A1 Low cut hazard jobs:
Touchscreen - with the proliferation of paperless workplaces and mobile devices, Packaging, Warehousing, Lawn Care,
workers must be able to use touchscreen devices without removing their gloves. This Gardening, General Purpose
will greatly enhance hand safety compliance.
Low to medium cut hazard jobs:
Impact - in heavy industries, impact hazards are everywhere. Make sure that hands
are protected from cuts as well as impacts to the fingers, knuckles, and metacarpal A2 Packaging, Warehousing, Automotive, Cold
bones with a glove from the KONG® glove line.
Storage
Abrasion Resistance - working in highly abrasive environments can dramatically
weaken cut resistant gloves. Choose a glove with high abrasion leather and a full A3 Medium cut hazard jobs:
360° cut liner, such as Ironclad’s ULD-IMPC5. Material Handl ing, Construction, Paper

Chemical Resistance - knit gloves with only a palm coating will not protect users
from hazardous chemicals. Choose a fully coated glove, such as the Ironclad KCHA5, A4 Medium to high cut hazard jobs:

Cold Environments - working in cold environments or cold storage can cause loss 360° Cut Resistance 9
of dexterity and even frostbite. Choose a cut resistant glove with sufficient insulation. Look for this icon next to any glove that
features a full 360° cut resistant liner.
Heat Resistance - when handling hot objects, it is important to consider the fiber
composition of the glove. HPPE can melt under high heat, so choose a heat-rated
glove made from aramid fibers such as DuPont™ Kevlar®.
Designed in conjunction with the Oil & Gas Safety Committee, our
patented KONG® impact protection is designed to help protect
against various impact situations. Through extensive testing with the
University of Wisconsin, we have determined the optimal combination
of materials to greatly reduce the effect of impacts; thus ensuring

ALL HANDS ON DECK
On board a mighty machine, alive with mechanical sounds, gliding effortlessly down the Mississippi River is a normal day at the
“office” for Teran McDonald, a crewmember of a river towboat.
Not one to shy away from a challenge, Teran jumped at the opportunity to join the towboat crew and give his family a more
stable life. As long as commerce flows on the river, towboats are on duty to help guide the river traffic.
When Teran joined the towboat crew, he started out as a Deck Hand with tasks that included hauling, rigging and laying wires to
painting/washing the vessel. Being a towboat crewmember is physically demanding, and Teran is a big champion for Ironclad
gloves among the crew. He is now in an engineering program to learn how to repair and maintain ship engines and has his
sights on one day becoming a Chief Engineer.
