It is normal to be bored during a
lockdown where everything seems to
be at a standstill. It can be all too
easy to get into a state of perpetual
boredom or inactivity during
lockdown. Hence at Yayasan
Sunbeams Home, we have our own
way of combating boredom.
Sunbeams Inhouse Camp was
conducted to help build stronger
RELATIONSHIP for the children
with each other as well as the staff.

At this camp the children learn to work together to

overcome challenges through building friendships with
each other and the staff that would last for a long time.
This camp was conducted from the 5th of January to
the 8th of January 2021. It started at 10 a.m. and ended
at 5p.m. Through the many different activities, the
children could keep their minds and bodies active
during a time where idleness was common. During this
camp many important lessons were taught such as
acquiring leadership and communication skills.

Motivation goes a long way in staying active

and fresh during lockdown.

Although I'm not their mother, Thank you for
I care for them each day. bringing

I cuddle, sing, and read to them, love, acceptance, and joy
And watch them as they play. into our life all these years.
I see each new accomplishment,
and help them grow and learn. Happy Father's Day
I understand their language,
and I listen with concern.

They came to me for comfort, From Sunbeams Home
and I kiss away their tears.

EVENTS

SANDWICH MAKING

This event was conducted on a

Saturday on the 22nd of May 2021
for members of the Boys Brigade
Junior members. Members were
taught independence by learning
how to make their own sandwiches.
A small lesson as such goes a long
way in helping the children take
their first steps to be independent
adults in the future. As the saying
goes "Give a man a fish, and you
feed him for a day. Teach a man
how to fish, and you feed him for
life."

VIRTUAL SEED

PLANTING LESSON

lants plays an important role in
the ecosystem - providing shelter
and most importantly oxygen to
many organisms. Hence it is
essential that children learn about
the importance of plants and how
they grow. This virtual learning
programme was conducted just for
this very purpose, on the 8th of April
2021. It was conceptualised to give
the children a better understanding
about plant life and how to properly
care and tend to them. Thus,
guiding them on how to play a part
in caring for the environment.

ALOR GAJAH
BRANCH

Sunbeams Home Alor Gajah is a Branch of Yayasan Sunbeams Home

Kuala Lumpur. It is managed by our dedicated Home Manager, Anthony Foo Yong Chee

who helps Pastor Alvin Tan to expand our social work in the remote areas of Malacca.

We currently have 34 children calling our Alor Gajah Branch home. These children come

from a variety of backgrounds and each has personal and different experiences. Our

mission is to make a positive Impact in their lives as we seek to guide them on their

journey of growth.

Their attitude and education are of utmost concern to us all. We do not seek to just tend

to their physical needs but their psychological and developmental needs as well.

Our goal is to provide our children with a place to learn, develop and grow into individuals

who can have a useful impact in society. We thank you for your continual support towards

our cause. We hope that you will continue to aid us in bringing Sunlight into the lives of

all these children!

A s the saying goes, “WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND".
We have been so greatly blessed by your generous
giving, that we felt that we should not be the only ones
partaking of the blessing. With that this ministry was
started in 2004, with the mission of giving and
providing members of our community who are
struggling. In this way, we are able to connect to the
community socially.

We strive to be a positive impact in the lives of those
struggling in our community by distributing provisions
to them at the end of every month at our Community
Centre. Becoming like sunlight to them just as you
have been a brilliant beam of light to us. We will

continue to reach out to and Supportthe

communities that need help.

"THE LIFE BELOW IS AN INTERVIEW
DURING WITH KEVIN ON HOW IT IS
MCO" LIKE LIVING IN THE "NEW
NORM" DURING MCO. KEVIN
IS 16 YEARS OLD AND A FORM

5 STUDENT IN CLC

W E WOULD JUST LIKE TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCE OF ONE OF OUR KIDS
CALLED KEVIN, WHICH ALSO REFLECTS THOSE OF THE OTHER KIDS. BEFORE
THE PANDEMIC HIT THE WORLD, KEVIN WAS HAVING FUN WITH MANY EVENTS AND
ACTIVITIES THAT SUNBEAMS HAD ORGANIZED FOR THE KIDS. HE USED TO PREPARE
FOR THE BB PESTA (BOYS BRIGADE), GOING OUT INTO THE OPEN FIELDS ON
WEEKENDS AND ENJOYING HIS FREEDOM. BUT ALL THIS ENDED SUDDENLY.
FOR KEVIN, COVID-19 WAS JUST A NON-EXISTING VIRUS. COPING WITH THE FIRST
TWO WEEKS OF QUARANTINE WAS EASY FOR HIM AND THE OTHER KIDS. THEY ENJOYED
THE FIRST PHASE OF MCO AS IT WAS LIKE A BREAK FOR THEM.
HOWEVER, WHEN THE MCO WAS EXTENDED TO PHASE 2 AND THE NUMBER OF CASES
WERE RISING FAST, HE REALIZED HOW THIS VIRUS WAS THE CAUSE OF MASSIVE
PROBLEMS ECONOMICALLY, FINANCIALLY AND HEALTHWISE. THAT WAS WHEN
REALITY HIT HIM. HE COULD NO LONGER ENJOY HIS USUAL ROUTINE OF MEETING HIS
FRIENDS. HE FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP UP WITH HIS STUDIES AS IT WAS
CHANGED INTO ONLINE CLASSES WHICH TOOK HIM SOME TIME TO ADJUST.
EVENTUALLY, KEVIN BECAME BORED AND FELT DEMOTIVATED.
BUT THIS DIDN’T STOP HIM FROM TRYING TO BECOME PRODUCTIVE. HE MANAGED TO
FIND CREATIVE WAYS TO SPEND HIS TIME DURING MCO WISELY. HE STARTED TO
LEARN NEW SKILLS LIKE BAKING BROWNIES AND COOKING CHINESE FOOD. HE ALSO
HELPED CARING FOR THE YOUNGER KIDS.
THIS PANDEMIC GAVE KEVIN A GREAT LESSON IN APPRECIATING THE TRUE VALUES
OF LIFE, THE GREAT IMPORTANCE IN BEING ABLE TO HOLD ON TO ONE’S
OCCUPATIONS AND SOURCES OF INCOME AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO SPEND
VALUABLE TIME WITH FAMILY AND THE PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT BECAUSE LIFE IS
SHORT AND YOU CAN’T REVERSE TIME.
HE WISHES THAT THE PANDEMIC WILL END SO THAT THINGS CAN GO BACK TO
NORMAL. BUT KEVIN ALSO ACCEPTS THAT WE MUST ALL LEARN TO LIVE WITH THE
COVID VIRUS AS A PART OF OUR DAILY ROUTINE.
