Introduction
Hi, I’m Siew Jia Qi from SJK( C ) Senai. I’m so grateful because I have given the honour and
the opportunity to introduce a prominent leader of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail ibni
Almarhum Sultan Iskandar to my fellow readers.
Hope this scrapbook will be able to provide you with some useful information about our noble
Sultan of Johor and his contributions. Thank you.

Personal details
Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar is the 25th Sultan of
Johor and the 5th Sultan of modern Johor. He is the son of Sultan Iskandar. A motorcycle
enthusiast, Sultan Ibrahim is well-known as the founder of the annual motorcycling tour
event, Kembara Mahkota Johor.
Tunku Ibrahim Ismail was born on 22 November 1958 in Sultanah
Aminah Hospital, Johor Bahru during the reign of his great grandfather, Sultan Ibrahim.
He was the eldest son of Sultan Iskandar by his first wife Josephine Ruby Trevorrow, an
English lady from Torquay, whom Sultan Iskandar met while he was studying in England.

Marriage
Sultan Ibrahim married Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofia, daughter of Sultan Idris Shah II of Perak,
in 1982. They have six children:

Education
Trinity Grammar School
The late Sultan Iskandar sent him to complete his secondary education at Trinity
Grammar School in Sydney, Australia from 1968 until 1970. After finishing his
high school, he was sent to Pusat Latihan Tentera Darat (PULADA) in Kota
Tinggi for basic military training. He also received military training in the US–at
Fort Benning, Georgia and later at Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Decrees
On 22 November 2013, on Sultan Ibrahim's birthday celebrations, he decreed
that Johor will move back its weekend to Friday and Saturday, to enable
Muslims in the state to attend their Friday prayers, effective 1 January 2014. The
private sector nevertheless continues to rest on Saturdays and Sundays.

Changes and contributions
District name changes
In August 2015, Sultan Ibrahim decreed that the name of Kulaijaya district be reverted to
its former name of Kulai. He also decreed that Nusajaya be renamed to Iskandar Puteri,
as well as renaming Ledang District to Tangkak District.

Ban on electronic cigarettes or ‘vape’
Sultan Ibrahim issued a decree banning, ‘vape’ in Johor effective 1 January 2016. The
purposes of the ban is for the sake of the health of the Johor state residents. Kelantan
and Terengganu followed soon after.
Ban on oversized signboards
In January 2016, Sultan Ibrahim also decreed that signboards for businesses must not
exceed 6.1 m × 1.2 m, so as to prevent any dangers to the public as well as to reduce
unsightly signboards which mar the city beauty.

Passion
Sultan Ibrahim is passionate about sports, especially polo. His passion has led him to
participate at international championships. He is also an avid tennis player, sailor,
shooter, racer and parachutist.
He created history by gaining the Class 26 Train Driver’s License upon completing the
86-tonne locomotive round using a turn table device. He also received
acknowledgement from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the first Malay
Ruler to officially drive a train. He received the license from Dr Aminuddin Adnan,
the President of Kereta Api Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) on 29 June 2010 at the
Gemas Railway Station.

Car collection
The Sultan and the Crown Prince of Johor have a massive collection of 379 cars
from antiques dating back to 1890s to the latest models and collector exotic cars.
Collectively the whole family has about 500 cars.

Moral values
Our Sultan’s leadership, credibility and personality made him a great Ruler to be
respected and loved by the people of Johor. His good traits were definitely
established a good role model to be emulated by others especially by younger
people. Therefore, we should be grateful as we have an honourable and a
magnanimous king.

Conclusion
We as a Johorean, should always be faithful and loyal to our king for all of his
devotions and contributions that are offered to his state, Johor. Likewise, we
should be proud of having to be born and lived in a multiracial and multicultural
community in Johor.
