There’s no background to draw imagine coming across this beautiful
attention away from the dragon, beast slumbering in a remote cave
which makes the attention to detail somewhere in Wales. But Anne is the

reminiscent of a naturalistic illustration come from. When did she last visit
and it pays tribute to Anne Stokes’ Wales, we wonder?

Meet the designer

Anne Stokes

Anne is a Gothic and fantasy artist based
in the north of England near Leeds. Her
illustrations cover many themes and are
created in incredible detail, which translates

wonderfully into cross stitch design.

Stacey Howe, via Facebook

A Heather: Windmills always look so majestic in the middle
of a countryside scene. While still fairly large at 20.5x20.5cm
(8x8in) when stitched on 14-count fabric, this ‘Windmill
Landscape’ (KCWL1579) from The Karen Carter Collection at
Heritage Crafts* uses mostly solid blocks of colour, as you can
see, making it a more manageable project and much easier on
the eyes. This design is available as a kit with either Zweigart

project to stitch as you bring the summery scene to life.

Copyright fraud on eBay

Q In good faith I purchased a chart from eBay, but it arrived
and it’s poor quality, which makes me suspect it’s
photocopied. It clearly says The World of Cross Stitching on each
page and I thought this wasn’t permitted. What can I do?
Mrs E Howell, via email

A Hannah F: You’re correct, it is illegal to sell photocopies of
our patterns but unfortunately there are disreputable sellers
on sites such as eBay, as it’s largely unregulated and, sadly, not
everyone is as conscientious as you on matters of copyright. You
would need to go through the eBay Resolution Centre to get
your money back and the seller shut down. With vigilant people
like yourself taking a stand, it makes it harder for fraudulent
traders to sell photocopies to other unsuspecting buyers.

School days and storybook critters are two
of my favourite things. Creatively they just
go together, and the result is lots of fun and
whimsy. I think any of these designs would

bring a smile to a teacher’s face.
