Editor’s Letter

Welcome 20 62

W ith Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there
are plenty of romantic ideas for you to stitch for
your other half this month. Jenny Barton’s trio
of cute designs are filled with her characteristic warmth
and humour (p20) or for a smaller project, stitch a card
with the words ‘I love you’ in a language of your choice.
This set of greetings from Perry Abdel-Hadi feature sweet
motifs and 10 different dialect variations (p66).

February 2022 marks the start of the Year of the
Tiger so celebrate Chinese New Year with Durene Jones’
striking big cat on vibrant red fabric (p62).

We know that families come in all shapes and sizes,
so we wanted to offer an inclusive sampler for
new arrivals whatever the family set up. This sweet
typographical design from Lucie Heaton will make a
thoughtful gift for prospective parents and can be adapted
to suit the recipient’s circumstances (p56).

We have some exciting news! We’ve launched

lots of designers and suppliers. You might like to check out the
range at Maries Cross Stitch* to begin with, as they sell a variety
of kits covering different themes and styles, including this

(RLN140-026) for £10.99. The kit contains 14-count pre-printed
fabric, a needle, threads and instructions to stitch this pretty

as a card or miniature picture for your wall. If you fancy

also a selection of Dimensions no-count kits and some larger

Frustrating frogging

Q What is the most efficient way for me to undo large areas
of cross stitching?
Stephanie Holland, via Facebook

A Fiona: We’d usually recommend carefully undoing (or
frogging, as it’s known) the work stitch-by-stitch with your
needle, though this isn’t always feasible with a large area or one
where there’s lots of colour changes. In this instance, you could
try using a seam ripper or small pair of embroidery scissors along
the back and front of the stitches, then delicately pull out the
strands. This is not an ideal method though, and there is the risk
of damaging the fabric underneath stitches if you catch it, so do
take extra care and use a magnifying glass or lamp if you can.
