Welcome Editor’s Letter
W e’re thrilled to welcome back Peter Rabbit as 84 18
the cover star this month! I know you are fans 62
of the lovable bunny too, so I hope you enjoy
stitching this fab spring scene (p10). We’ve got plenty more
seasonal patterns to keep you busy – celebrate
Easter with Heather Nugent’s fun wreath (p84), enjoy Nia
Rhind’s delightful spring sampler (p62) and make
handy labels for your indoor plant pots with Jenny van de
Wiele’s 12 delicate herb designs (p18).
I’m a big fan of William Morris and so I asked Amanda
Butler to create a set of charts inspired by the 19th century
designer. She’s truly captured the bold repeating
patterns William Morris was known for in the stylish
dining set on page 56 – sure to impress guests!
At the time of writing, we’re still in lockdown here in
the UK and I’m missing café catch-ups with friends. With
that in mind, Durene Jones’ café-themed Design
Library (p47) is the perfect
way to let a pal know you’re
thinking of them, and to
plan where you’ll meet for
your next cuppa as soon as
it’s allowed!
Hope you’re all staying
safe and well.

How to... patch stitching
onto a card
1 Once you’ve finished stitching the design, cut it out,
leaving two squares of aida all the way around the edge.
2 Fray the outer block of the aida all the way around, using
tweezers, to make a fringe. Using acid-free double-sided tape,
attach a slightly smaller piece of white paper to the back of the
aida to prevent Kraft card from showing through holes in fabric.
3 Stick your patch to the centre of a piece of Kraft card with a
1cm (½in) border, then stick onto pots of your choice.

A Durene says: With the help of
some carefully placed single stitches

some subtle highlighting and
backstitching, I hope I’ve managed to
capture Chloe’s distinctive long-haired
coat in this chart. Mini long-haired
dachshunds have delicate features, which
I’ve recreated here using shading, and
I think the different tones of grey mixed
with black really help to get this across.

Sizing up fabric waste
Q Why is the fabric size in your shopping lists so big in
comparison to the size of the stitching? I find I waste a lot
by following these measurements. Am I missing something?
Abby Planter, via Facebook
A Heather: Our shopping lists indicate what’s needed to
stitch the design as per the model in the photos, which can
vary depending on what it is. For example, a framed project will
have 15cm added on top of the aperture measurements – this
ensures there’s enough fabric to mount it in the same size frame
as our own. If, however you wish to make yours up in another
way or use a different size frame, just adjust the measurements
to suit. Remember, it’s better to have too much than too little.
