Roll Book of the Company of Amherst in the Fifth Regiment, Fourth Brigade, and Third Division of the New Hampshire Militia (1840-1847) & Enrollment 1851 (pgs. 1-25)
This volume, issued by the State Adjutant General, is a companion to the Orderly Book and includes a year-by-year roster of militia members. It lists officers, noncommissioned officers, privates, and musicians, along with the equipment issued to each individual, such as muskets, bayonets, knapsacks, and more. From 1841-1843, the company had three musicians, each with an instrument, but by 1844, the instruments were no longer in use. The volume concludes with the 1851 enrollment, listing able-bodied men aged 18-45 who were liable for military duty under New Hampshire’s 1850 militia law.
