New Chula Vista East Location

We love our new site at 865 East H Street in Chula Vista. This is a great loation with enough room for
a Community Employment Center and the perfect set up for a retail store and processing area. The
site has great visibility because it shares a parking lot with Walmart and is in the same center as Cost-
co. The convenience of a Community Employment Center sharing space with our Retail Store allows
us to provide exceptional customer service to our job seekers. They are able to stop in and receive
FREE assistance with their job search and then pick up a thing or two they might need to make a solid
impression at their next interview. We want to prepare our community job seekers with everything they
need to make a stellar impression and secure the job they are pursuing. As a community resource, we
want members of the community to know we are available and present to meet their needs. Our Career
Advisors are eager to assist anyone in need of our services. To learn more visit sdgoodwill.org.

Little Black Dress Event

The Little Black Dress (LBD) was first introduced by Coco Chanel in the 1920’s. The iconic dress
became a must have for women everywhere. The black dress became popular because of its versatility
and slimming effect. For thirteen years, we have been working with Consumer Bob from NBC 7/39
TV to host the well-attended event. In fact, a line begins forming hours before the store opens with
shoppers excited to get their hands on as many dresses, shoes and accessories as possible. You
can expect to find name brands such as LF, Ted Baker, F21, BCBG; a large range of sizes; and many
dresses that are new with tags; not to mention unbeatable prices!

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHES

Making Good Happen for our Community

The development of our website was an exciting project we couldn’t wait to unveil. We began by creating a
wireframe that outlined the layout. We needed 225 photos to complete the site which required collecting
all of the product needed to complete the desired look for each photograph. The new site has nearly 40
pages, it is full width with visually rich photos that feature our ambassadors, locations, programs and
services. We want our visitors to have a great experience, so we decided to keep the site as simple
to navigate as possible. The site is parallaxing, which means it seems to float up and down without
delay. It includes videos from participants of our programs including Veterans, Paid Training, Supported
Employment, Young Adults, Ticket-to-Work and Department of Rehabilitation Direct Placement. You
can visit our site to learn about our FREE Community Employment Center services or apply for a job.
We hope you like it and will visit often to find new information.

Our website has a new look but the web address is the
same, find us at sdgoodwill.org.

Community Involvement

Goodwill Ambassadors in the Alpine Christmas Parade Goodwill Ambassadors in the La Jolla Christmas Parade

Our ambassadors like to get involved in the community. We participate in community events like the
La Jolla and Alpine parades. We attend events for other non-profits to show our support including the
10 year anniversary of the East County Transitional Living Center. Our core values help to form our
culture. Our core value of collaboration says “We are different people, with different skills, who work
well together to get the job done.” We want people to show respect and love for one another. We
collaborate with our community partners to reach more people and create greater awareness of the
services that are available. We at Goodwill take the generous donations given to us, sell them, and
use the funds they create to provide training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities
and other barriers to employment. We do this because we believe that everyone who wants to be self-
sufficient should be given the opportunity to do so. We do this because we believe everyone has a
valuable contribution to make to our society.

Point Loma Flag Dedication

Our flagship Retail Store sits at the corner of Rosecrans and Sports Arena which is the gateway to
Fort Rosecrans. We placed an American flag at our Corporate Headquarters to pay tribute to our
military and first responders, and recognize our ambassadors, board of directors and donors. We held
a dedication ceremony attended by our Goodwill executive team, law enforcement, military, including
color guard members, veterans, board of directors, ambassadors, and former Goodwill President and
CEO, Mike Rowan.
Fort Rosecrans is a military reservation that was appointed by Executive Order of the President in
1852. The preserve includes the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and Fort Rosecrans Cemetary. Thank
you to all who were able to attend and provide service to our flag.

Santa’s Workshop

Santa and her helper made Christmas extra special
this year! The Executive, Leadership and Key Leader
Teams all secretly met to wrap a surprise gift for
all ambassadors! Toni Giffin, our CEO, aka Santa,
had a wonderful idea to share a little extra warmth
over the holidays. All ambassadors received a cozy,
embroidered windbreaker with hood in Goodwill
blue and a well-deserved monetary gift! Toni and
our Board of Directors wanted to recognize the
tremendous success that was achieved by the
efforts of all ambassadors in 2019. Revenue and
donation records were broken and you could feel the
excitement at all locations. Even though 2019 will be
hard to beat, our workforce is determined! The gifts
were appreciated by all! Thank you Toni!
