Assalamualaikum w.b.t. dan Salam Sejahtera...
Alhamdulillah, syukur ke hadrat Allah S.W.T, kerana dengan limpah kurnia-Nya saya diberi
kesempatan untuk menyampaikan sepatah dua kata dalam Buku Program dan Abstrak bagi
Persidangan Saintifik Kesihatan Persekitaran bersempena dengan Sambutan Hari Kesihatan
Persekitaran Sedunia Tahun 2022 peringkat Cawangan Timur.
Tahniah dan syabas kepada Jawatankuasa Penganjur diatas penganjuran persidangan ini
bertemakan Pengukuhan Sistem Kesihatan Persekitaran Ke Arah Pelaksanaan Matlamat
Pembangunan Mampan yang pada pendapat saya bersesuaian dengan keadaan semasa
dimana negara sedang dalam fasa pemulihan negara setelah berhadapan dengan cabaran
pandemik COVID-19 selama 2 tahun.
Dalam tempoh pandemik sebelum ini sebenarnya banyak perkara yang dipelajari dari aspek
kesihatan persekitaran khususnya dalam menangani wabak. Sesungguhnya peranan
tuan/puan sebagai pengamal dalam bidang ini amat diperlukan bagi menangani isu kesihatan
persekitaran yang begitu mencabar di era globalisasi masa kini. Justeru, adalah penting untuk
mengukuhkan sistem kesihatan persekitaran demi memastikan kesejahteraan masyarakat
seterusnya menyokong ke arah pembangunan negara.
Dalam pada itu, usaha mengadakan persidangan saintifik seperti ini adalah sangat baik. Di
samping menjadi medan untuk berkongsi pengalaman dan bertukar pendapat, program ini
juga dapat melatih kemahiran anggota dalam kajian saintifik.
Diharapkan semoga persidangan saintifik sempena Hari Kesihatan Persekitaran Sedunia
2022 ini menjadi pemangkin kepada Pegawai Kesihatan Persekitaran dan Penolong Pegawai
Kesihatan Persekitaran ke arah yang yang lebih cemerlang dan menonjol di kalangan yang
lain. Akhir kata, saya mendoakan kesejahteraan buat semua dalam memajukan profesion.

Assalammualaikum W.B.T, dan Salam Sejahtera
Alhamdulilah, segala puji dan rasa penuh kesyukuran kepada Allah S.W.T kerana dengan
limpah kurnia-Nya, Persidangan Saintifik Kesihatan Persekitaran bersempena dengan
Sambutan Hari Kesihatan Persekitaran Sedunia Tahun 2022 dapat direalisasikan dengan
penuh jayanya.
Penglibatan Kesatuan Inspektor Kesihatan Semenanjung Malaysia (Cawangan Timur) dalam
Persidangan Saintifik Kesihatan Persekitaran pada kali ini adalah bagi menyokong penuh
pihak kesatuan terhadap program-program sanjungan ilmu khususnya dalam bidang
kesihatan persekitaran.
Dengan slogan KIKSM peneraju kemajuan profesion diharapkan dapat mengangkat profesion
ini ke peringkat yang lebih tinggi selaras dengan tema sambutan Hari Kesihatan Persekitaran
Sedunia disambut pada 26 September setiap tahun yang mana tema pada tahun ini adalah
“Pengukuhan Sistem Kesihatan Persekitaran Ke Arah Pelaksanaan Matlamat Pembangunan
Mampan”.
Jesteru kepada semua peserta dan pembentang diharapkan dapat mengaplikasikan
pengetahuan dan pengalaman yang diperolehi sepanjang persidangan ini untuk
meningkatkan kualiti perkhidmatan di tempat masing-masing.
Akhir kata, syabas dan tahniah kepada semua yang bertungkus lumus memastikan kejayaan
perlaksanaan persidangan ini. Semoga jasa baik anda semua akan mendapat keberkatan

Assalammualaikum w.b.t, dan Salam Sejahtera

Alhamdulilah, bersyukur ke hadrat illahi dengan limpah rahmatNya, kita diizinkan oleh Allah
S.W.T. dapat menjalankan program yang melibatkan Pegawai Kesihatan Persekitaran/
Penolong Pegawai Kesihatan Persekitaran di Malaysia amnya serta negeri di pantai timur
khasnya Negeri Pahang iaitu Persidangan Saintifik Kesihatan Persekitaran bersempena
dengan Sambutan Hari Kesihatan Persekitaran Sedunia Tahun 2022.

Sebagai makluman, International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) telah
menetapkan bahawa Hari Kesihatan Persekitaran Sedunia disambut pada 26 September
setiap tahun yang mana tema pada tahun ini adalah “Pengukuhan Sistem Kesihatan
Persekitaran Ke Arah Pelaksanaan Matlamat Pembangunan Mampan”. Bersempena dengan
tema sambutan ini, Inspektorat Pahang mengambil inisiatif ini untuk mengadakan
persidangan saintifik bagi memberikan idea-idea baru dalam kesihatan persekitaran melalui
perkongsian para pembentang seterusnya meningkatkan mutu dalam penyampaian
perkhidmatan.

Di samping itu, setelah hampir 2 tahun kita bergelumang dengan COVID-19 dan mengambil
peluang di mana negara telah beralih ke fasa endemik, kita telah dibenarkan bersemuka.
Maka diharapkan persidangan ini membuka lembaran baru kepada PKP/PPKP dalam
mengetengahkan kemahiran masing-masing dalam kajian saintifik hasil pengalaman dalam
pelbagai bidang tugas kesihatan persekitaran.

Pada kesempatan ini juga, saya mewakili Inspektorat Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pahang
selaku jawatankuasa penganjur bagi program ini ingin mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi
penghargaan kepada Kesatuan Inspektor Kesihatan Semenanjung Malaysia, KIKSM
(Cawangan Timur) atas peluang yang diberikan serta pengurusan tertinggi Jabatan Kesihatan
Negeri Pahang atas sokongan padu bagi menjayakan program ini. Ucapan ribuan terima kasih
juga kepada semua peserta kerana sudi menyertai program ini, para pembentang jemputan,
juri serta semua ahli jawatankuasa yang terlibat.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Dengue fever (DF) is a rapidly growing public health issue in Malaysia. As a
result, developing disease prevention, intervention, and control strategies is critical to lowering
the risk of new infection as well as the disease's burden in the country, particularly in Kuantan,
Malaysia. The objective of this research was to create a dengue fever prediction model
utilising the SARIMA model to anticipate dengue cases in 2020. Methodology: The prediction
was made using the SARIMA model, which was established to track and forecast DF in the
Kuantan area for the year 2020, based on DF epidemiology data from 2011 to 2019. The Box-
Jenkins methodology was used for the analysis, which was an ideal method for the forecasted
period. This model-building approach included three parameter types: autoregressive
parameters, number of differentiations, and moving average parameter. Results: The result
of the study confirmed that the SARIMA (0,1,0) (3,0,2)12 model was the best-fit and could be
used to extrapolate case numbers up to 12 months in advance. Our predicted number of
monthly DF cases in 2019 was relatively close to the actual number of monthly DF cases and
fell within the confidence interval. Conclusion: Therefore, the SARIMA model developed by
this study is capable of forecasting and predicting future DF cases. This can help improve
existing intervention programs, which are an integral component of minimizing the burden of
the disease in Kuantan.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The enforcement of Public Health Laws and Regulations is crucial to protect
people from health hazards, promoting health education and creating awareness among
public. In this study, the Public Health Laws involved were Destruction of Disease-bearing
Insects Act 1975 (Act 154), Food Act 1983 (Act 281) and Prevention and Control of Infectious
Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342). This study aimed to determine the characteristics of violations
against these laws and regulations among citizens in Hulu Terengganu. Methodology: A
cross-sectional study was conducted from 1st January 2020 until 31st October 2021. Data was
collected through random selection during district operation. A total of 466 notices of violations
were issued from 1st January 2020 until 31st October 2021. Number of notices issued from Act
154, Act 281 and Act 342 are 216, 131 and 119 notices respectively. Results: For Act 154,
all notices from the citizens were creating conditions likely to harbour disease-bearing insects
(216, 100%). While, Act 281, several notices of violations had been recorded under the Food
Hygiene Regulations 2009 with the highest notices was non-compliance to required food
handler’s clothing (99, 75.6%). For Act 342, the most violated act was failure to scan QR code
with ‘MySejahtera’ smart phone applications before entering premises (51, 43.2%). Majority
violation of Public Health Laws and Regulations were from individuals, only 4.7% was from
organization. Also, violation of Public Health Laws were frequently violated by women
compared to men (60.3%, 39.7%). Conclusion: Attitudes of people are the most difficult part
to nib in the root despite knowledge had been given. Continuous follow-up with law
enforcement is vital to refrain health threats and to ensure compliance to Public Health Laws
at most time.

ANALYSIS OF AIR QUALITY IMPROVEMENT FROM 3-MONTH COVID-19

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Mitigation and control strategies for novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-
19) have been widely implemented in many countries to reduce the spread of this pandemic
disease. As a pandemic control strategy, Malaysia implemented a Movement Control Order
(MCO) on March 18, 2020, which restricted all movement and daily outdoor activities. To study
the trend of the impact in MCO in air pollutants. Methodology: We obtained daily Air Pollutant
Index (API) data from the Department of Environment Malaysia prior to (Sept-Dec 2019) and
during the MCO (Mar-May 2020) with the goal of tracking changes in fine six parameters such
as particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 10 m (PM10), sulphur dioxide
(SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), solar radiation, and carbon monoxide (CO) were
measured in 65 Malaysian air quality monitoring stations before and after the implementation
of the MCO. Results: As the result, for SO2, 38 air quality monitoring stations recorded a 73%
decrease in SO2 concentrations. NO2 concentrations have been reduced at 47 air monitoring
stations (88.7%). O3 concentrations were reduced at 7 stations, accounting for 15.2% of the
46 stations. CO concentrations were reduced at 34 stations, accounting for 74% of the total of
46 stations. Solar radiation concentrations were reduced at 25 stations, accounting for 38.5%
of the 65 stations. Conclusion: The MCO has a significant impact on reducing pollution in
Malaysia. It should be noted that other factors such as weather, traffic density, industrial
activities, and biomass burning should be investigated further. Because of the closure of
factories and businesses, as well as stay-at-home orders and social distancing, the COVID-
19 pandemic reduced levels of key pollutants, resulting in fewer cars on the road and fewer
planes in the sky.

EVALUATING MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF DIFFERENT KITCHEN

ABSTRACT
Introduction: In response to increasing concern about regarding food hygiene, the
cleanliness of kitchen equipment is important. This research evaluated sources of food
contamination from several kitchen equipment, such as sponge and cutleries, at restaurants
in Puncak Alam, Selangor. The main purpose was to determine microbial count in used kitchen
sponge and to identify the presence of bacteria in kitchen cutleries washed by used kitchen
sponge. The efficiency of detergent used in each restaurant also being analyzed.
Methodology: Three samples from three restaurants were collected and analyzed for total
colony counts for E. coli by using EMB. Selective medium for S. aureus is MSA and Salmonella
spp. is XLD. The results were expressed in the total colony forming unit (log10 CFU/ml).
Results: Three kitchen restaurants were contaminated with different types of bacteria, both
Gram-negative and Gram-positive. The most highly abundant bacteria was E. coli than other
microbes in R1 and R2 with 4 log10 CFU/ml and 3.25 log10 CFU/ml respectively. As
Salmonella spp. was highly abundant bacteria in R3 with 4.13 log10 CFU/ml. S. aureus
showed the lowest abundance in R1 than others with 0.68 log10 CFU/ml. There was no
bacterial presence in kitchen cutleries at R2, except at R1 and R3. Then, DR1 being selected
as the most efficient detergent as showed excellent effect in removing the selected bacteria.
Conclusion: It is therefore crucial that good hygiene practices be used as a significant safety
measure to avoid cross-contamination of foods. Usage of disposable sponges as necessary
steps should be enforced.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chopping boards are common utensils in kitchens and food processing units,
thus chopping board hygiene should be a priority in kitchens. This study was conducted to
assess the hygiene knowledge, attitudes and practices on chopping boards among household
food handlers during Covid19 outbreaks in Selangor (Klang and Shah Alam). Methodology:
Cross-sectional study was chosen. One hundred home food handlers participated in the online
survey using a validated self-administered questionnaire. Socio-demographic data was
analyzed using descriptive analysis and the spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to
determine the association between knowledge, attitudes and practices scores of household
food handlers. Results: Respondents had sufficient knowledge (26.51 ± 8.478) 56.40%,
attitude (9.50 ± 4.051) (55.88%), and practice (7.01 ± 2.710) (50.07%). A significant correlation
was observed between knowledge with practice (rs = 0.375, P < 0.05), and attitude with
practice (rs = 0.380, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Overall, the findings indicate that cutting board
hygiene knowledge, attitudes, and practices are adequate. These findings highlight the
importance of educating household food handlers on food hygiene in order to improve their
knowledge, behaviour, and practices.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Uncontrolled land exploration activities have posed a growing threat to the
environment and the natural resources of the Cameron Highlands. This study aims to
determine the status of water quality and the land use activities that contribute to water quality
degradation within the water catchment areas. Methodology: A sanitary survey (on-site) and
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used to identify the types of land use activities
within the areas, and the water quality analysis (physiochemical, microbiological, heavy
metals, and pesticides) parameters were carried out at selected sampling points (n=5), which
represent the main river tributary networks along the catchment area. The mean values of
each parameter were compared with the standard values set by the National Drinking Water
Quality Standard (NDWQS). Results: Through (GIS) database images and site surveys, we
were able to detect illegal agriculture and livestock farm activities within 100 metres of the
sampling point (SP01) and (SP05). Overall mean concentration of physiochemical,
microbiological, heavy metals, and pesticides parameter were within the acceptable limits.
Despite none of the analysis parameters mean value exceeding the (NDWQS), there are still
significantly highest levels of COD, TC, E. coli, Aluminium (Al) and Lead (Pb) at sampling point
(SP01) and (SP05), and organochlorine compounds, namely aldrin, 4,4'-DDT, endosulfan,
heptachlor epoxide, and methoxychlor were detected across all the sampling point.
Conclusion: Water quality at the catchment area has slightly deteriorated due to land use
activities nearby. Continuous monitoring is necessary due to an increase in illegal land use
activities within the catchment area.

HABITAT CHARACTERIZATION OF ANOPHELES SP. MOSQUITO LARVAE IN

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Malaria is a common and life-threatening disease in many tropical and
subtropical areas. The development and survival rate of the malaria vector larvae was
influence by the several environmental characteristics that affect larvae density. These
characteristics include climate, physical and chemical conditions of the aquatic habitats,
vegetation type, and biological characteristics. A major reason for the study of mosquito larval
ecology is to glean information on factors that may determine lay eggs (ovipositional), survival,
and the spatial and temporal distribution of important malaria disease. Methodology: Study
area for this study is Felda Selancar 4 (Malaria risk areas). The sampling was conducted with
three larval habitats (Slow-flowing River (SFR), Ditches (DT) and Animal foots (AF)) present
within a study area radius were sampled for anopheline larvae using a standard 350 mL
capacity mosquito dipper. When mosquito larvae were present, 3-10 dips were taken
depending on the size of each larval habitat at intervals along the edge. Environmental
information that was determined during this study included physical characteristics and
physiochemical characteristics. Physical characteristics include canopy cover, water depth,
turbidity, emergent plant coverage and distant to nearest house and physiochemical
characteristics include temperature, pH, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen and
conductivity. Results: For physical habitat characterizations in this study, all Anopheles sp.
breeding habitats more prefer presence in clear water (100%). The probability of An.
maculatus larvae to be present was reduced when the water was turbid. For physiochemical
habitat characterizations, the mean values for water temperature of Slow flowing river (SFR)
and Animal foots (AF) are in the range 24 ± and 26.84 °C for Ditches (DT). The average value
for pH of water are almost in the same in the entire water samples which ranges from the 5.77
to 5.88. The independent sample paired t-test showed that there was no statistically significant
difference in water temperature, pH, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen and electric
conductivity between the positive and negative samples from Slow-flowing River, Ditches and
Animal foots (p>0.05) in this study. Conclusion: Water temperature were statistically
significant with p-value 0.002 respectively for different types of Anopheles sp. breeding
habitats.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Carrying a backpack is a daily routine by most adults and children. Carrying
heavy backpack loads over an extended period of time causes postural alterations in
youngsters, putting them at risk for injury and pain, as well as being a major predictor of back
pain in adulthood. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of backpack
weight and risk factor of scoliosis in primary school students. Methodology: The risk factors
are identified by age, sex, bag weight and ATR Measurement. A total of 260 students of
primary 1 to 6 (7-12 years) are listed for scoliosis screening. The examination is performed by
measuring angle of trunk rotation (ATR) on Adam Forward Bending Test (AFBT) using a
scoliometer. ATR of 5° or more is deemed to be positive. Results: The result shows that
percentage of evaluation recorded was (ATR> 5 °) is 30% (77/130) for males and 32%
(84/130) for females. High prevalence in female with risk factor of scoliosis. The correlation
coefficient is very highly significantly different from zero (P < 0.001). For the variables between
age and ATR measurement is significantly different from zero (P < 0.001). Body mass index
and ATR measurement have a weak correlation and negative relationship (indirectly
proportional) with the degree of association is -0.141. The findings showed that a significant
of moderately correlation was found on risk factor of age (r = 0.538), gender (r = 0.580), and
backpack weight (r = 0.552) which indicates that age, gender and backpack weight may
contribute to risk factor of scoliosis. Conclusion: The conclusion shows backpacks weight
can contribute to risk factor of scoliosis.

ABSTRAK

Pengenalan: Peraturan-Peraturan Kawalan Hasil Tembakau (PPKHT) 2004 merupakan satu
peraturan yang mengawal penjualan hasil tembakau, kawasan larangan merokok dan yang
berkaitan. Pihak Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) adalah agensi yang mengawal selia
peraturan ini dalam melindungi orang awam daripada kesan bahaya rokok. Dalam tempoh 5
tahun hasil pencapaian pengeluaran notis di daerah Kemaman berlaku trend penurunan yang
ketara dan tidak mencapai sasaran yang ditetapkan. Kajian ini dibuat bagi mengenalpasti
faktor-faktor peratus penurunan pengeluaran notis kesalahan dalam tempoh tersebut dan
mengambil langkah-langkah penambahbaikan bagi meningkatkan pengeluaran notis.
Metodologi kajian: Kajian bermula November 2021 hingga Julai 2022 di Pejabat Kesihatan
Daerah (PKD) Kemaman dengan verifikasi data lima tahun rekod daftar notis kesalahan
(Audit) dan kajian irisan lintang secara soalselidik tahap pengetahuan, sikap dan amalan
(KAP) kepada 28 orang pegawai berkuasa. Keputusan: Kajian KAP mendapati tahap
pengetahuan pegawai berkuasa berada di tahap memuaskan (85%), sikap kurang
memuaskan (66%) dan amalan lemah (35%). Antara limitasi pengeluaran notis kesalahan
melibatkan kesukaran penyediaan kertas siasatan (92%), keletihan (86%) dan isu
keselamatan (82%). Responden telah mencadangkan bagi pendigital sistem pengeluaran
notis (96%) dan kehadiran polis semasa menjalankan operasi (89%). Audit dalaman
mendapati kekurangan beg operasi, latihan dan kehadiran pegawai berkuasa antara faktor
penyumbang. Kesimpulan: Kajian telah berjaya meningkat pencapaian dalam meningkatkan
pengeluaran notis kesalahan. Prestasi yang ditunjukkan ini mencapai hasrat Menteri
Kesihatan Malaysia untuk mengukuhkan dan memperkasakan penguatkuasaan PPKHT 2004
sebelum akta baharu yang dikenali Rang Undang-Undang Akta Kawalan Produk Tembakau
dan Merokok 2022 diluluskan di peringkat parlimen. Satu pelan penambahbaikan (MOGC)
telah dibuat antaranya penyediaan sistem kertas siasatan dan pengkalan data secara atas
talian untuk memudahkan dan menjimatkan masa. Selain itu, pemantauan prestasi , penilaian
premis hotspot, penglibatan pegawai polis dalam operasi, penambahan keperluan peralatan
operasi, latihan, penghargaan dan promosi imej dan visibilty operasi di dalam media sosial
ditingkatkan

ABSTRAK

Pengenalan: Bermula 1 Januari 2019, peraturan larangan merokok akan dikuatkuasakan di
semua restoran bertutup, berhawa dingin atau restoran dan warung berkonsep terbuka.
Namun pemilik premis makanan membantah peraturan larangan ini apabila masih ada
segelintir pengusaha kedai makan yang terus – terusan lantang menyuarakan ketidakpuasan
hati terhadap larangan tersebut. Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk mendalami
perspektif pemilik premis makanan terhadap perlaksanaan premis makanan sebagai kawasan
larangan merokok. Metodologi kajian: Kajian ini dijalankan di Bandar Inderapura Jerantut
Pahang. Kajian kualitatif ini dijalankan sepenuhnya menggunakan rekabentuk kajian kes yang
menggunakan kaedah secara temubual semi – struktur. Hasil temubual direkodkan dan
dianalisis menggunakan kaedah kualitatif, iaitu analisis tema. Lima (5) informan dari kalangan
pemilik premis makanan sebagai sampel kajian. Keputusan: Dapatan kajian menunjukkan,
semua informan mengetahui pewartaan premis makanan sebagai kawasan larangan merokok
yang diwartakan oleh Kerajaan Malaysia pada 20 Disember 2018. Pelanggan kurang datang
ke premis makanan bukanlah disebabkan premis makanan sebagai kawasan larangan
merokok semata – mata, ianya juga disebabkan oleh persaingan perniagaan diantara premis
– premis makanan di sekitar kawasan kajian. Informan menyatakan premis makanan lebih
bersih. Informan juga menyatakan jangkaan respon bukan perokok adalah bersetuju
manakala jangkaan respon perokok tidak bersetuju terhadap larangan merokok di premis
makanan. Informan juga mengetahui tanggungjawab mereka bagi memastikan pelanggan
tidak merokok di premis makanan. Kesimpulan: Dengan adanya kajian ini, diharap semua
pihak yang terbabit dapat memainkan peranan masing – masing dan dapat memberikan
sumbangan kepada yang berkenaan agar dapat memantapkan aktiviti penguatkuasaan
larangan merokok ini dan meningkatkan kempen serta kesedaran masyarakat tentang
ancaman dan bahaya rokok.

ABSTRAK
Pengenalan: Berlaku peningkatan kes syphilis di kalangan orang asli Bateq berbanding suku
kaum lain (Temiar) di daerah Gua Musang. Kesukaran mencegah rebakan jangkitan akibat
faktor ekonomi, sosial dan budaya tradisional orang asli Bateq itu sendiri. Juga kesukaran
melengkapkan rawatan syphilis melalui suntikan intra muscular penicillin kerana terlampau
sakit dan memerlukan 3 dos suntikan. Kajian ini adalah untuk mendapat maklumat mengenai
kadar kejadian kes syphilis yang berlaku di kalangan masyarakat orang asli Bateq Kuala Koh,
Gua Musang. Metodologi kajian: Bentuk kajian adalah secara retrospektif kohort bermula
March hingga Julai 2022 melibatkan 247 penduduk Orang Asli Bateq, Kuala Koh, Gua
Musang. Data sosiodemografik diperolehi melalui teknik temuduga dan daripada Jabatan
Kemajuan Orang Asli Gua Musang. Keputusan: mendapati kes syphilis tertinggi dicatatkan
adalah pada tahun 2017 sebanyak 30 kes. Peringkat umur 21-30 tahun paling tinggi
mencatatkan kes syphilis sebanyak 37 kes dan golongan wanita adalah kumpulan tertinggi
mencatatkan kes syphilis sebanyak 53 orang. Seks bebas berkongsi pasangan adalah faktor
risiko tertinggi mecatatkan kes siflis sebanyak 80 kes. Kesimpulan: Hasil dapatan daripada
kajian ini, diharapkan dapat memberi manfaat kepada semua pemegang taruh yang
menguruskan masalah kesihatan orang asli Bateq. Kajian ini juga mencadangan pewujudan
operasi bersepadu bagi pencegahan syphilis di segitiga negeri Kelantan, Pahang dan
Terengganu. Juga mewujudkan garis panduan khusus untuk kaedah pengesanan dan
rawatan orang asli Bateq di Gua Musang menggunakan RTK syphilis dan ubat oral single
dose Azithromycin.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The spread of malaria in Malaysia has constantly been increasing for the past
few decades. The rising threat of malaria in Malaysia has become a serious issue to be
addressed and study the different causes and find solutions for it. Therefore, to keep check
on the spread of malaria, it is of utmost necessity to keep track of the malaria incidents and
the reason for the spread of it. The rise in cases can be either due to the environmental
determinants climatic conditions. This study has addressed the outspread of malaria cases by
study the spatial and temporal patterns of the same across the state of Pahang. Methodology:
The incorporation of ArcGIS and Microsoft Excel has made the study possible to complete. It
analyzed the cases of malaria spatially across the Pahang state during the time period of 2011
to 2019 for different time frames like weekly, monthly and annually. This study also checked
for the correlation of the number of cases across different districts to the climatic variation of
those particular districts using spearman correlation. Results: The GIS analysis show malaria
hotspot pattern which mostly at the Lipis district that has occurred more frequently than the
other districts throughout the period of 2011-2019. The statistical analysis using Spearman
correlation clearly see that the maximum magnitude of R is 0.34588 which is for Kuantan
district against monthly mean temperature so that the number of cases is not highly correlated
to the independent variable of climate. Relative humidity has the highest correlation on an
average among other variables except for the Rompin district which is 0.0036. The analysis
showed that the spread of cases was not evenly distributed among the districts in any
particular year and the correlation with the climatic variables also turned out to be low.
Conclusion: These findings show a clear spatio-temporal trend of malaria cases in Pahang
and no significance between malaria cases and climatic conditions, providing evidence in
directing future work on researching of the malaria distribution case and providing the effective
solution in area with high malaria cases.

WASTE CHARACTERIZATION AND THE POTENTIAL OF GHG EMISSION FROM
SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL IN UITM PUNCAK ALAM

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The improper solid waste management has been a major problem for most of
the countries including Malaysia. Solid waste can be easily defined as any unwanted material
that needs to be disposed of. The study aims to create a profile of waste generated in UiTM
Puncak Alam. Methodology: The study design was a descriptive study. Four different areas
were selected which are residential (Campus), academic building, administrative, and
commercial area (Cafeteria). The collected waste was segregated by its composition which
are organic waste, paper, plastic, glass, metal, hazardous waste and other types of waste. All
the segregated waste was weighed using a 60-kg weighing scale. The potential GHGs
emission was calculated using the formula of CO2 equivalent emission. The results were
analysed using Microsoft Excel. Results: The study found that commercial areas generate
the highest total amount of waste, especially organic waste. Administration areas produce the
highest proportion of paper as compared to other components. The result revealed that the
total of waste from each area was 658.28 Kg. Out of 658.28 kg, organic waste was the highest
waste produce in each area followed by papers, plastics, glasses, hazardous waste, metal
and other type of waste with the amount of 306.17 kg, 209.50 kg, 6.93 kg, 1.31 kg, 15.11 kg
and 9.19 kg, respectively. The total of GHGs emission from these sectors was 80.44 kg/day.
The highest total emission of CO2 equivalent was from the residential area with 57.88 kg/day
and the lowest from the academic area which is 3.2 kg/day. Conclusion: This study can be
used to improve and maintain proper internal waste management systems at UiTM Puncak
Alam.

SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF DENGUE DISTRIBUTION PATTERN IN KUANTAN
FROM 2015-2019

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dengue fever is a health issue that has been a source of concern throughout
Malaysia, notably Kuantan, Pahang. Dengue fever cases have been recorded on a regular
basis in the local community in recent years. Methodology: This study aimed to examine the
spatio- temporal pattern based on yearly dengue surveillance data for five years from 2015
to 2019. To better understand the pattern of dengue cases, a descriptive analysis that
included extensive observation of dengue data as well as the distribution of rainfall in Kuantan
was carried out in this study. Data on dengue case distributions over a five-year period were
gathered from the “eDengue” system. A total of 6560 dengue cases in Kuantan was used in
this study. Spatio-temporal analysis was performed by plotting the dengue cases distribution
using the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and applied with the Kernel
Density analysis to trace locality patterns in dengue hotspot. Results: The GIS analysis
shows centralized hotspot pattern of dengue cases which mostly focus on the sub-district of
Kuala Kuantan. Then, the dengue cases distribution pattern was analyzed against the rainfall
distribution. The statistical analysis by using the Pearson correlation were used to find the
relationship between dengue cases and rainfall. The Pearson correlation brought the value
of the R2 linear (R2 = 0.003) which is far from the accepted value by the research community
(R2 = 0.19). The Pearson correlation value (r = 0.053) was not close enough to the significance
value (r = 1). Moreover, the significance 2-tailed value is more than 0.5 which means that the
relationship between dengue and rainfall in Kuantan from 2015 till 2019 was not statistically
significant. Conclusion: These findings show a clear spatio-temporal trend of dengue cases
in Kuantan and no significance between dengue cases and rainfall pattern, providing
evidence in directing future works on researching of the dengue distribution cases and
providing the effective solution in the area with high dengue cases.

HEAVY METAL CONCENTRATION IN FRESHWATER PRAWN (Macrobrachium

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Rivers play an important role in facilitating and transportation of heavy metal,
thus making its water, sediment and aquatic life susceptible to the accumulation of heavy
metals. The purpose for this study was to determine the level of heavy metal concentration
specifically cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), ferum (Fe), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) in the muscle
tissue of freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) obtain from Rompin river, in Rompin
district, Pahang during September 2018. Methodology: 60 samples were collected from local
fisherman, digested using dry ashing method and metals concentration were analysed using
Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (GFAAS). The method was validated
based on certified reference materials. Results: The result of the study showed that the
highest metal accumulated in prawn tissue is Zn and the lowest is Cd. The concentration of
metals in this study in descending order of Zn> Fe> Cu> Pb> Cd. Pb and Cd level were within
permissible limit of 1 mg/kg set by Malaysia Food Regulation 1985. Other metals tested are
within permissible level set by international standards. Chronic daily intake (CDI) for every
metals were below the Provisional Maximum Tolerable Daily Intake (PMTDI) suggested by the
Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme Codex Committee On Contaminants in Foods
2011. The target hazard quotient (THQ) and Hazard Index for metals analysed in this study
were below 1. Carcinogenic risk for Pb were also within permissible limit. Conclusions: Study
suggested that the consumption of freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) from
Rompin river is safe and does not pose adverse effect to public health.

THE COVID-19 MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER (MCO) IMPLICATIONS ON
DENGUE TRANSMISSION AND VECTOR TREND IN BENTONG, PAHANG

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dengue is an acute arboviral infection. One of the key elements in dengue
transmission is the abundance and distribution of the vectors; Aedes aegypti and Aedes
albopictus in which the mosquitoes’ behaviour such as the host-seeking process, is also
potentially affected by movement restrictions of humans. This study aims to understand the
implications of Movement Control Order (MCO) on the number of reported Dengue Fever
cases and vector trend in Bentong. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study carried
out from January 2020 – September 2021(week 42) 2021 in the district of Bentong, Pahang
to determine the pattern of dengue cases during MCO phases. Results: The number of
dengue cases in 2021(n=4) is less than the number for year 2020 (n=112). This is significantly
different, where year 2020 was 96% more likely to have dengue cases as compared to 2021.
The percentage of dengue fever occurred during any MCO phase was no different from that
of the opposite. There were 66.2% of dengue fever occurred during MCO (MCO 1.0 & 2.0,
CMCO, RMCO) phases, while 55.2% occurred not within any MCO phases (before MCO, PPN
1 & 2), X2 = 0.937 (1), p = 0.333. There was no difference in terms of gender, X2 = 2.556 (1),
p = 0.110; in terms of locality, X2 = 0.105 (1), p = 0.746; work status, X2 = 0.103 (1), p = 0.748;
and MCO phases which requires public to stay at home X2 = 3.219 (1), p = 0.073.
Conclusion: The implementation of COVID-19 MCO do not contribute to significant reduction
of dengue cases and implications on vector trend. The MCO phases only contributed to more
dengue cases. This was probably due to more domestic waste production, no increased of
domestic waste collection, hence more man-made stagnant water body formed as breeding
site to harbour dengue. Additionally, stagnant water body also formed due to neglection of
non-occupant work and public facilities while peoples forbade to attend.

INSECTICIDE RESISTANCE STATUS OF AEDES ALBOPICTUS IN FELDA

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The effectiveness of insecticide-based dengue mitigation control is influenced
by the insecticide resistance status of the mosquito at the targeted areas. This study aims to
determine the insecticide resistance status among Aedes mosquitoes in the selected locality.
Methodology: This study followed the experimental design outlined by the WHO. In total 300
ovitrap were placed inside (n = 150) and outside to (n = 150) of randomly selected houses in
Felda Kemasul. After 5 days, all ovitrap were collected for species identification. Identified
female mosquitoes aged from three to seven days, test mosquitoes (n = 100) and control
mosquitoes (n = 50) were exposed to pyrethroids and organophosphates classes using WHO
adult bioassay test for 1 hour. For larva assays, 4 replicates of test larvae (n = 100) were
introduced into treatment cups and 2 replicates test larvae (n = 50) exposed to control cup.
The larval mortality rate was observed at 24 hours post exposure. Results: Ae. albopictus
was identified as the mosquito species collected. The larvae of Ae. albopictus strains tested
showed low mortality rate (range 0% to 7%) at a Temephos diagnostic dosage of 0.012mg/L.
For adult mosquitoes, Deltamethrin had the highest mortality rate of the tested mosquitoes
which is 100%, Lamdacyhalothrin were 97.9%, permethrin 91%, Fenitrothion 87.9% and
Pirimphos Methyl 34%. The lowest mortality rate was for malathion 28.3%. Conclusion: This
study conclude that the Felda Kemasul strain started to develop resistance towards
insecticides that used in a vector control program except for Delthametrin.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dengue fever is an arboviral infection that is particularly prevalent in tropical
and subtropical climates. Since its outbreak in the 1980s, the disease has remained endemic
in Malaysia, with the highest concentration of cases in the Kuantan district. The purpose of
this study is to determine the spatial and temporal distribution pattern of dengue fever and to
investigate the variation of the hotspots in the study area. Methodology: To ascertain the
geographical distribution of dengue fever cases in Kuantan, several statistical analytic
techniques in ArcGIS version 10.6 were employed. The spatial pattern of dengue epidemics
was measured using the geographical distribution pattern. Distributions in ambiguous areas
were established and potential hot spots were found using Kernel Density Estimation (KDE).
Results: More than 11,330 confirmed dengue fever (DF) cases were recorded in Kuantan
between 2011 and 2020. The number of DF cases was examined to identify hotspots for DF
occurrences, which were discovered and illustrated by overlaying maps. The Kuala Kuantan
sub district had the highest density of hotspot clustering, followed by Sungai Karang and Penor
sub districts. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the suggested methods and
resources can assist public health professionals in developing warnings and public awareness
campaigns by assisting them in visualising and understanding the distribution and trends of
illness spreading patterns.

ABSTRAK

Pengenalan: Demam campak (Measles) adalah penyakit berjangkit yang boleh
dicegah dengan imunisasi, dan Malaysia menuju ke arah untuk eliminasi penyakit ini
menjelang tahun 2025. Pada 15 Jun 2019, satu wabak measles diisytiharkan oleh
Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Jerantut yang melibatkan komuniti Orang Asli (OA) suku
Bateq di Ulu Sat. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menerangkan wabak secara epidemiologi
dan untuk membentangkan liputan imunisasi yang dicapai, di mana ‘Supplementary
Immunisation Activity’ (SIA) telah dilaksanakan. Metodologi kajian: Siasatan
epidemiologi dijalankan untuk mengumpul data tentang komuniti OA suku Bateq yang
terlibat. Sampel ujian calitan tekak dan sampel darah telah dihantar ke Makmal
Kesihatan Awam Kebangsaan untuk siasatan lanjut. SIA telah dijalankan di semua
penempatan komuniti OA suku Bateq di Jerantut dari 1 Julai hingga 5 Julai 2019.
Semua data telah dianalisis dengan menggunakan Microsoft Excel 2016. Keputusan:
Sebanyak lapan kes disyaki measles dikenalpasti di Ulu Sat dan empat daripadanya
disahkan positif oleh ujian makmal. Tiga daripada mereka adalah dewasa dan seorang
daripadanya adalah kanak-kanak di bawah umur lima tahun. Kesemua mereka stabil
dan tidak mempunyai sejarah vaksinasi. Mengamalkan gaya hidup separa nomad,
tidak divaksin dan mempunyai kaitan epidemiologi dengan wabak measles dari Kuala
Koh, Kelantan telah meningkatkan kadar risiko jangkitan di dalam komuniti ini.
Walaubagaimanapun, 97.83% liputan imunisasi telah dicapai dengan pelaksanaan
SIA. Kami juga mengenalpasti kira-kira 59% daripada OA suku Bateq tidak
mempunyai Kad Pengenalan (MyKad) daripada Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara.
Kesimpulan: Wabak ini berjaya dikawal dan tiada kes kematian dilaporkan kerana
langkah-langkah kawalan dan pencegahan yang segera dilaksanakan. Penglibatan
pelbagai agensi diperlukan untuk mengukuhkan pelaksanaan imunisasi dan
pendaftaran MyKad di dalam komuniti OA. SIA memberi peluang kedua untuk
meningkatkan imuniti kelompok, dan sekaligus memberi impak positif dalam
mencapai eliminisasi measles.

ABSTRAK

Pengenalan: Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengkaji tahap pengetahuan, sikap adan amalan
mencuci tangan di kalangan pengendali makanan di dapur asrama sekolah di Kuala Lipis,
Pahang. Objektif kajian adalah mengenalpasti ciri-ciri sosiodemografi, tahap pengetahuan,
sikap dan amalan mencuci tangan di kalangan pengendali makanan serta perhubungannya.
Selain itu, objektif lain adalah menentukan hubungan di antara pengetahuan, sikap dan
amalan mencuci tangan dengan langkah mencuci tangan dengan betul di kalangan
pengendali makanan. Metodologi kajian: Seramai 56 orang pengendali makanan yang
dipilih secara rawak daripada 22 buah dapur asrama sekolah di mana data dikumpul pada
bulan Mei dan Julai 2017 dengan menggunakan borang kaji selidik manakala data kajian
dianalisa dengan menggunakan program Satistical Package For Science (SPSS) versi 15.
Keputusan: Hasil kajian menunjukkan tahap pengetahuan, sikap dan amalan mencuci
tangan adalah tinggi dengan min bagi peratus skor bagi pengetahuan, sikap dan amalan ialah
masing-masing 81.1 ± 1.498, 75.4 ±0.763 dan 79.16 ±13.546. Ciri sosiodemografi pula, hanya
beberapa faktor sahaja yang mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan iaitu di antara faktor
bangsa dengan amalan mencuci tangan (nilai r = -0.274, nilai p = 0.041). Faktor status
perkahwinan juga menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan dengan skor langkah-langkah
mencuci tangan (nilai r = -0.309, nilai p = 0.020). Selain itu, faktor latihan pengendali makanan
mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan dengan skor langkah-langkah mencuci tangan (nilai r
= -0.384, nilai p = 0.003). Seterusnya, hanya skor pengetahuan mempunyai hubungan yang
signifikan dengan langkah mencuci tangan dengan betul dengan nilai r ialah 0.296 dan nilai p
ialah 0.027. Kesimpulan: Amalan mencuci tangan dengan betul dipengaruhi oleh skor
pengetahuan responden.

ABSTRAK
Pengenalan: Berdasarkan data dari Unit Kawalan Mutu Air Minum, Pejabat Kesihatan
Putrajaya, sepanjang 2015, terdapat 4 aduan diterima berkaitan air keruh, berbau dan
kehadiran cacing di dalam air. Bagi kes Acute Gastroentritis, dilaporkansebanyak 3838 kes
pada 2013, 3887 kes pada 2014 dan 3395 kes pada tahun 2015. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk
mengukur dan membandingkan kualiti air terawat yangdibekalkan oleh SYABAS dengan
yang diterima oleh penduduk Aparment Presint 11, Putrajaya. Metodologi kajian: Kajian
dijalankan secara Cross-sectional. Intrusmen kajian mengggunakan Pocket Chlorine Meter,
Tuberdity Meter, pH Meter, Color Meter, Quanty- Tray, IDEXX Quanty-Tray Sealer dan
inkubator. Kajian melibatkan 30 buah tangki di 17 buah blok apartment Presint 11 Putrajaya.
Ia melibatkan Aparment Putra Damai, Apartment Zon 4A, Apartment Zon 6B dan Apartment
Zon 3A. Bacaan parameter mengikut garis panduan yang telah ditetapkan oleh KKM.
Keputusan: Kajian mendapati pelanggaran parameter air di dalam tangki hanya melibatkan
parameter baki klorin. Daripada jumlah 30 tangki air yang dibuat kajian, hanya 4 tangki sahaja
(13.3%) mematuhi piawaian yang ditetapkan oleh KKM. Manakala baki 25 tangki melanggar
parameter baki klorin yang ditetapkan dan 1 tangki air berada di paras terendah. Bagi
parameter pH, TCU, NTU dan E-Coli, semua memematuhi piawaian. Kesimpulan: Faktor
penyelenggaraan tangki, penyimpanan dan penahanan air yanglama berkait rapat dengan
pelanggaran parameter baki klorin. Ini kerana air yangdibekalkan oleh SYABAS telah
mematuhi piawaian yang ditetapkan. Penyelenggaraan tangki dari masa kesemasa mengikut
jadual amat diperlukanbagi memastikan tahap keselamatan air yang diterima pengguna dan
mengelakkan risiko kontaminasi mikroorganisma pembawa penyakit.

HOTEL MANDURAH – WABAK KERACUNAN MAKANAN SALMONELLA ENTERITIDIS
DI KUANTAN, PAHANG, MALAYSIA

ABSTRAK

Pengenalan: Wabak Salmonella Enteritidis bawaan makanan berlaku di Hotel Mandurah,
Kuantan yang terletak di Pantai Timur, Semenanjung Malayisa pada 2022. Wabak itu
melibatkan 35 orang terdedah dalam kalangan pekerja Akademi Al-Fateh. Terdapat 5 kes iaitu
4 kes berkaitan epidemiologi dan 1 kes yang disahkan oleh makmal. Metodologi kajian:
Mengenal pasti gejala yang dialami oleh setiap kes [Lower gastrointestinal (GI) and Upper GI].
Temubual bersama tukang masak dijalankan bagi mengenalpasti makanan yang berisiko.
Sampel makanan seperti nasi putih, lobak masin, cili boh kisar, bawang merah kisar, bawang
putih kisar, ayam goreng berempah dan sosej rebus telah diambil sebagai sampel kajian.
Sampel swab persekitaran seperti papan pemotong, pisau, senduk, tray dan pengisar juga
telah diambil sebagai sampel kajian. Keputusan: Keputusan kajian mendapati kehadiran
Aerobic Count Plate dengan bacaan 3.7x10^3 CFU/g di dalam sampel nasi putih, lobak masin,
cili boh kisar, bawang merah kisar, bawang putih kisar dan ayam goreng berempah. Terdapat
juga kehadiran Coliform 5.0x10^3 CFU/g di dalam sampel sosej rebus. Swab persekitaran
peralatan merekodkan bacaan Aerobic Count Plate adalah seperti berukut: senduk (1.2x10^6
CFU/g), papan pemotong (6.3x10^5 CFU/g), pisau (2.3x10^5 CFU/g), pengisar (1.2x10^5
CFU/g), tray (2.6x10^4 CFU/g). Terdapat juga kehadiran Coliform pada senduk (3.2x10^2
CFU/g), papan pemotong (7.2x10^2 CFU/g), pisau (3.0x10^3 CFU/g) dan pengisar (9.0x10^2
CFU/g). Selain itu, E. coli telah dijumpai pada papan pemotong (20 CFU/g) dan pisau (10
CFU/g). Kesimpulan: Hasil kajian mendapati wabak ini berpunca daripada ketidakpatuhan
titik kawalan kritikal (CCP). Makanan yang disyaki menjadi punca keracunan makanan adalah
omelet. Limitasi penyiasatan apabila tiada holding sample bagi omelet. Hasil siasatan
mendapati berlaku pencemaran silang apabila telur mentah yang digunakan berkemungkinan
telah tercemar. Selain itu, pengendalian yang tidak sempurna dari segi kebersihan kulit telur
ayam atau telur ayam yang tidak dimasak dengan betul. Ini menjadikan bahan mentah ini
berisiko dalam penyediaan omelet yang dihidangkan oleh pihak hotel. Bagi mengelakkan
keracunan makanan disebabkan bakteria ini, pengguna dinasihatkan mencuci telur ayam
dengan sempurna sebelum digunakan.
