their families and for Sylvanvale.

From July 2017, 441 of the people we support will
transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme
(NDIS), joining the 190 who have already transitioned.
These people will be one step closer towards equality,
as the NDIS helps give them choice and control over
their supports and, most importantly, their own lives.

This is also a significant year as it is the year we
celebrate Sylvanvale’s 70th Anniversary. It was in 1947
that a group of parents united to form an organisation
that would give their children with a disability a better
quality of life through access to education and social
inclusion.

We’ve come so far and grown so much as an
organisation – today supporting over 700 children and
adults from a range of cultural backgrounds across
Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Yet there is still much
to be done to secure full equality and inclusion for
people with a disability.

As we celebrate the past and look towards the future,
we are delighted to launch a new Sylvanvale brand.
Our new look and feel reflects the dynamic, customer
focused organisation that we truly are – one which
supports and empowers a diverse range of people,
through a wide variety of services, to live the life they
choose.

We thank you for your support and look forward to
seeing you at our 70 year celebrations.

I want to help others in my community. I love
seeing the smiles and happiness my volunteer
work brings. As a volunteer, I get to try new
things, meet new people and develop different
skills. When I first came to Australia 6 years ago,
I knew very little English and knew nobody.
Volunteering gave me a chance to practice
my English and learn about Australian culture
and the people who live here – something I
am grateful for. I encourage all my friends and
people who have recently arrived in Australia to
volunteer and connect with their communities.
