Why do we need goals? We need them so that we know where we want to go towards, right? Without
goals, we are basically wandering around in the darkness hoping that we reach the right place. But, we
also use goals as a motivational tool to give us that boost of energy to work towards them.
Every single motivational speaker will tell you that you need to create goals so that you know what you
are working towards. Well, that's not the whole story though. It goes beyond just writing goals down on
p ap er .
If you ask any motivational speaker, one of the key points they will tell you to achieve success is to write
down your goals. Well, that's not the whole story though. Just writing them down doesn't give you that
energy boost that you need to achieve success but I'll tell you my secret to goal setting.
First, you have to start dreaming again and not the dreams that you have when you sleep at night, but
the dreams that you had when you were kids like, "I wanna live in a mansion when I grow up." Don't be
afraid to dream big because odds are, if you dream big but only reach half way, that's still half way farther
than if you didn't dream at all.
Ok, so let's talk about your mansion. Just writing down a mansion in your Goals list isn't enough. Write
down details. What kind of architecture would it be? Would it be a fairy tale type of castle? Would it be an
Italian Villa? How many bedrooms? What about an indoor pool?
Another secret to goal setting is to find images of some of the things you want so that you can picture
them clearly in your mind. It gives your goals a sense of realism than if you were to just think about the
word "mansion." Find some pictures of Italian Villas or indoor pools or whatever it is that you want and
just imagine yourself in there.
What is it that you'd like to have a new car, a new house, money? Like I said, you have to dream big if you
want to hit it big! Save images of what you want onto your computer and even set a couple of them as
desktop images on your monitor. It's important to know the colors, options and details of exactly what it
is that you want. It makes it much more real when you get down to the details.
So, you can start with making a list of your goals but you need to go farther. Get into the details. Find
images. Picture yourself owning those items already. Doing this will only help you in whatever venture
you choose to go with.

Goal Set t in g

There?s been a lot written about goal setting and there are many different approaches and methods in
fact, it?s easy to get caught up in the confusion about how to set goals and not end up setting any. These
simple steps will help you to set powerful goals and make goal-setting an invaluable part of your life.
You?ll be amazed at what you can achieve with the help of some well though-out, written goals try it!

1. M ak e a dat e. Make time to find a quiet, comfortable location to set your goals. Spend a morning
at a favorite spot where you can focus on your current goals as well as establish new goals for the
upcoming year.

2. Tak e f ive. Create five categories for which to set goals: physical, educational, spiritual, financial,
relational. By setting goals for each of these areas of your life, you will be taking a balanced
approach and not neglecting any important aspects of your life.

3. Wr it e it . You must write your goals down it makes them more powerful. Use positive language
words like "I will" and "I am this" will help you to feel as though you have already achieved your
goals and to change your behaviors accordingly, for example, I am going to the gym three times
per week. Make sure you allocate a specific time frame for the completion of each goal, for
example, By the beginning of March, I am going to the gym three times per week. Now, identify a
reward for achieving each goal don?t just make a list of rewards, relate a specific reward to the
achievement of a specific goal. This will inspire you even more toward the achievement of your
goal. And finally, list the possible obstacles that will get in the way of you achieving each goal, and
how you will overcome these. This will help you to pre-empt the things that might go wrong and
immediately swing into action with your solution, rather than giving up on your goal.

4. Sh ar e. Make yourself accountable to someone you trust. Share your goals with them and ask
them to check in with you regularly to see whether you are on track, and if not, why not.

5. Review con st an t ly. I have been told that the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is
that a billionaire reads their goals twice a day. Simple really. I keep a copy of my goals in several
locations around my house (on the bathroom mirror, on the printer, outside the shower screen,
on the fridge, on my bedside table and in my wallet), which makes it easy for me to see my goals
and be reminded of what I am working towards several times a day.

6. Keep t r ack . When you return to your favorite place next year, review your progress and take the
time to feel proud of those goals you achieve before you move on to setting goals for the next
year .
