Chipola Softball celebrates Award-Winning Year
The Chipola Lady Indians softball team is celebrating another award-winning year with a state
championship, a runner-up finish in the national tournament and numerous awards.
As the reigning 2015 NJCAA National Champion, the Lady Indians came close to winning a second
straight national title, but fell to Butler (4-2) in the title game of the national tournament on May 21.
Four Lady Indians were named to the National All-Tournament team: pitcher Ilona Andringa, third
baseman Ashley Morris, catcher Madison Ragan and outfielder Gabriela Santos.
Chipola made it to the NJCAA title game with a 9-7 come-from-behind win over Salt Lake. The
Lady Indians also recorded wins over: Indian Hills (8-1), Wallace State (12-2) and Salt Lake (6-5).
Chipola moved into the consolation bracket following a 10-0 loss to Butler.
Chipola played in the title game of the NJCAA championship for a third straight year. The Lady
Indians recorded a 49-15 mark with three win streaks or seven or more games. Chipola won the national
championship in 2015 and in 2007.
Chipola captured a second straight FCSAA State Championship with a 6-2 win over Florida
SouthWestern in the title game on May 1. Chipola outfielder Dana Edmundson of Panama City was
named FCSAA Tournament MVP. Six players were named to the FCSAA All-Tournament Team:
infielders: Brianna Surrento and Ashley Morris; outfielders: Dana Edmundson and Gabriella Santos;
Designated Player: Madison Ragan; and Pitcher: Ilona Andringa.
Lady Indians Coach Belinda Hendrix was named the Florida state coach of the year for the fifth time in 12 years at Chipola.
She also picked up her 500th win this season. Hendrix and her Associate
Head Coach and husband Jimmy Hendrix lead the team along with
Assistant Coach Kelly Brookins. The entire Chipola coaching staff
was named the top staff in the South Region by the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association (NFCA).
On June 1, two Lady Indians were named to the 2016 NJCAADivision
I Softball All-American team. Sophomore pitcher Ilona Andringa was
named to the All-American Second team. Andringa (34-4) finished the
season with a 1.24 ERA. She pitched 202 strikeouts in 204 innings and
held opponents to a .198 batting average.
Sophomore outfielder Gabriela (Bibi) Santos was selected for the All-American Third team. Santos hit .431 on the year with
61 RBI, 4 homeruns, 20 doubles and 14 stolen bases. She led the team with 195 plate appearances and a .656 slugging percentage.
Santos committed only one error on the year to finish with a .982 fielding percentage.
Eight Lady Indians were named to the Panhandle All-Conference team. Ilona Andringa was Conference Pitcher of the Year.

Chipola hosts STEM Challenge
Chipola was the host site of a Summer STEM Challenge sponsored by the
Panhandle Area Educational Consortium in partnership with Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University. Here, Chipola science professor Dr. Jeff Bodart
works with Graceville High School junior Denzeal Boyd. Area high school
students got a chance to learn about drones during three-day event.
Participants used iPads, computers, and phones to create a map to operate
drones. Organizers say the camp helped teach problem solving skills.

First Commerce MyWay Scholarship

(2) request a final high school transcript be sent to Admission and Records Office; and (3) take the

Chipola offers Bachelor’s Degrees, the Associate in Arts Degree, the Associate in Science

Chipola is now accepting applications for each of the college’s 10 bachelor’s degrees programs.
New student application deadline for the Fall Semester is Aug. 3.
Chipola’s tuition is $115 per semester hour for upper division courses compared to $215 per hour at
nearby universities. Chipola also offers in-state tuition for Alabama and Georgia residents.
Chipola offers seven different bachelor’s degrees in the teaching field: Elementary Education,
Exceptional Student Education, English Education, Middle School Mathematics, Secondary
Mathematics, Middle School Science and Secondary Science (Biology). For information, contact

Chipola offers the B.S. in Business Administration with majors in Accounting or Management.
Both programs have excellent placement rates. Most of the courses are offered in the evening and

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offers all upper division classes on-line.
Applicants must have an AS degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or have completed
the AA degree with all prerequisites from a Florida public institution. Applicants must be licensed
