Chipola College recognized two of its top students, Sara Catherine Brown and Oliver Nandho, at a press conference on April 9. The two Chipola sophomores were among 144 students named to the All-Florida Academic Team from the nearly 1 million students in the Florida College System. Brown was also named a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, one of only 50 students nationwide Her portrait will be added to the Chipola College Academic Wall of Honor for winning the national award. Sara Catherine Brown of Hosford, is the daughter of Doyl and Beth Brown. She is a Civil Engineering major who plans to transfer to Florida State University-PC. Through PTK, she implemented the “Page for Change” project, in which she read to approximately 100 kindergartners and sent each student home with a book of their own. Brown also implemented the “Be the Match” drive on campus, which added donors to the United States Bone Marrow Registry Oliver Nandho of Blountstown, is the son of Fidel Nandho & Nancy Castellanos. He is a Mechanical Engineering major who plans to transfer to the University of Florida. Through PTK, Nandho organized and hosted a series of informational seminars on addiction by mental health counselors. Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 10 nations. Learn more at ptk.org. Chipola Students Recognized for State And National Awards Chipola’s FBLA Collegiate (formerly Phi Beta Lambda) had a successful State Leadership Conference in Orlando during Spring Break. Christopher Brockington of Malone and Emmaleigh Presley of Sneads competed in several events and attended business panels and business tours. Christopher Brockington earned 4th Place in Foundations of Computer Science. Our students have qualified to compete at the 2024 FBLA Collegiate National Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL, in late June. Chipola Recognizes 2024 Brain Bowl Team at Press Conference On April 9, Chipola College held a press conference to recognize students who have received national recognition. One group recognized was Chipola’s Brain Bowl Team who has a long legacy of winning big- and 2024 has been no exception. Brain Bowl Coach Stan Young introduced the members of the 2024 NAQT Community College National Championship/FCSAA State Championship Team. Team members are Cade Foxworth, Brayden Hand (Captain), Seth Crutchfield and (not pictured) John Maupin. Chipola Employees of the Month Sherry McClain is Career Employee of the month for April. Sherry McClain serves as a Custodian in Facilities and Campus Operations and has worked at the college since 2022. Brittany Baggett has been selected for the Faculty/Administrator/Other Professional Award of the month for April. Chipola College held its annual Spring Frolics on Thursday, April 4. Students enjoyed, lunch, games, and music. Spring Frolics is sponsored by the Chipola Student Government Association. Spring Frolics 2024 Chipola Wins Third State Title in Four Years The Chipola men’s basketball team beat Northwest Florida State 50-48 on March 16th making them the 2024 FCSAA Division Men’s Basketball State Champions! From there, the Indians headed to the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas where they took on the host team, the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Despite a strong comeback, the Indians were unable to pull off a win and lost 78-71. Chipola finished the 2023-24 season 29-5 and some of the accolades our team received were: Joshua “Greedy” Williams was named Second Team NJCAA All-American, first Team for the Panhandle Conference, NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA (regular season), and the NJCAA Region VIII/ FCSAA Tournament. He was named Panhandle Conference Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player at the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Tournament. He was also named the Panhandle Conference’s Co-Player of the Year and the Region VIII/FCSAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Jerald Colonel was named to the All-Conference, All-State, and FCSAA All-Tournament First Teams. Antonio Baker Jr. was named to the FCSAA All-Tournament Team. Also named to the All-Conference teams this season were: Dontae Walker (First Team); Zocko Littleton Jr. and Idell “JJ” Walton (Second Team). Donnie Tyndall was named the Panhandle Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year and FCSAA Coach of the Year for the third time in four years.

The Chipola Area Autism Resource Center Inc. sponsored this special day which unfolded at Citizens Lodge. The event brought the community together to support autism awareness and inclusion. It celebrated the vibrant spectrum of autism and showed support for individuals and families touched by autism. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, understand, and make a positive impact! Join us in spreading love, understanding, and acceptance. Exciting News from Chipola TRiO Society! Registration for summer classes at Chipola College is now in progress for new and current students and for the Dual Enrollment Summer Academy. New students may register for Summer Classes after being accepted to the college. There are three Summer terms. Summer 1-A runs 12 weeks, May 7 to Aug. 6. Summer 1-B runs six weeks, May 7 to June 18. Summer 2-C runs six weeks, June 24 to Aug. 6. High school students can also enroll in the Dual Enrollment Summer Academy starting April 1. The Summer Academy is a six-week program offering qualified students in Chipola’s 5-county service area the opportunity to complete up to THREE college courses over the summer. Students can choose from several general education courses in addition to (SLS1101) Orientation, which is required for first time college students. Chipola had a fun & exciting night at Jeff Johnson Field on April 4th. Fans enjoyed a food trucks, fireworks and a great baseball game- Chipola won 12-11!
