Approximately 800 of America’s best and brightest college students traveled to Atlanta, GA, to compete for an honored spot on stage among the Top-10. The 2023 FBLA Collegiate (formerly Phi Beta Lambda) National Leadership Conference was held June 22-25 at the Atlanta Hilton. Over the past year, the FBLA national office has been transitioning Phi Beta Lambda into “FBLA Collegiate” in an effort to improve the name recognition and recruitment efforts as students move from high school to college/ university. (Our chapter is slowly adjusting to the rebranding and the new name.) College students from across the United States and various territories attended this exciting conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and compete in business and business-related events. Students showcased their skills and knowledge in competitive events that involved objective tests, skills tests, prepared reports, interviews, speeches, role play scenarios, and presentations. The following five Chipola students attended this year’s conference: Christopher Brockignton, Angelina Hereld, Chad Mayo, Cullan Murray, and Jeremy Thomason. Two of our students placed in the Top-10 and one placed in the Top-15: Chad Mayo of Bonifay, Help Desk, 1st place; Christopher Brockington of Malone, Public Speaking, 10th place; Cullan Murray of Chipley; Accounting Case Study, Top-15 Finalist. Our national competitors worked hard over the past several weeks to prepare for this competition (many sessions with practice tests, role play scenarios, and speaking performances -- depending upon the event). Also in attendance were Angelina Hereld of Blountstown and Jeremy Thomason of Vernon. During the conference, our students attended workshops, visited the exhibit hall, participated in motivational sessions, and explored the city. The Florida presence is a strong one at NLC, and Florida FBLA Collegiate members typically win many awards. Our chapter is small but noteworthy, especially now as the state FBLA Collegiate President is our own Chad Mayo. Chad will serve in that role for the 2023-2024 year. He has served as an awesome chapter president this past academic year and will utilize that knowledge and his 20+ years of management experience in his new role as a state leader. Chipola PBL appreciates the support and funding that we have received for this venture! We could not make this happen without the collective and individual support from Chipola College. Chipola FBLA Recognized with Top Honors at 2023 Nationals Chipola’s Dual Enrollment Summer Academy has hit the midpoint in the 6-week session. Students were presented with a Chipola College T-shirt on Tuesday, June 27 in honor of their hard work. Approximately forty top scholars from local high schools are enrolled and getting a head start on their college education at zero cost. The Academy was created to reduce barriers to participation and increase equitable access and success in dual enrollment. In addition to high quality instruction, the six week program provides one-on-one advising and career counseling, academic support, and the only opportunity for dual enrollment students to complete orientation prior to high school graduation. Research shows that students who participate in dual enrollment are significantly more likely to graduate. Students who complete the summer academy not only save on tuition, they are better acclimated to college expectations. For more information contact Karen Hall at (850) 718-2424 or [email protected]. Chipola’s Dual Enrollment Summer Academy is a Hit!
