Chipola College will host their Dual Enrollment Summer Academy for the second time beginning June 12th 2023. The academy runs for a total of 6 weeks, Monday through Thursday. Students can enroll in as many as three courses. Chipola’s Dual Enrollment Summer Academy gives high school students the opportunity to get a head start on their college education at zero cost. Students who complete two summer academies can save over $2,000 in tuition and are better prepared for college courses. Students can choose from several general education courses in addition to (SLS1101) Orientation, which is required for first time college students. To be eligible to register, students must be officially enrolled a public high school, private school, virtual high school, or home-education program within Chipola’s 5 county district. New dual enrollment students must apply for admission to the college before they can register. There are several steps in the application process: 1) complete the college application online at chipola.edu; 2) request a high school or college transcript be sent to Admission and Records; and 3) take a College Placement Test – such as ACT, SAT, or PERT. The Testing Center offers the PERT (Postsecondary Education Readiness Test) in-person or online. High school students interested in Dual Enrollment, should contact their high school guidance counselor to start the PERT process. Chipola’s Children’s Theatre Production: The Secret Garden will be performed May 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts, Theatre. After Mary Lennox is orphaned, she becomes the ward of an uncle in England she has never met. As she adjusts lo her new life at secluded Misselthwaite Manor, Mary discovers a secret garden. If she can uncover the mysterious circumstances behind the garden, she might be able to save her sickly young cousin and melt the heart of her emotionally distant uncle. A touching coming-ofage story, based on the classic novel. Tickets are available now at the Chipola Box Office or online at www.chipola.edu/boxoffice. Children’s Theatre Production The Secret Garden Is May 11-12 Chipola’s You Can’t Take It With You Wins Multiple Awards The Chipola College Theatre production of ‘You Can’t Take It with You’ received a Superior rating and the Community Service Award from the Florida College System Activities Association. The respondent who evaluated the show praised, “To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Chipola College, you can hardly do any better than to stage a classic production like You Can’t Take It With You. The directorial concept, design elements and performances all working together cohesively created a thoroughly enjoyable play going experience. The consistency of the directorial vision was apparent throughout, and the attention to detail in all aspects of the production was impressive and helped to transport the audience into the world of the play. The overall result was a production that felt complete and polished, with each element working in tandem to create a cohesive and entertaining experience from start to finish.” The production also received a Community Service Award for “the excellent use and contribution of community performers.” Chipola Theatre’s next production is “The Secret Garden,” slated for May 11-12. King Selected as FCSAA Theatre Student of The Month Chipola sophomore Chandler King was selected as the Florida College System Activities Association Theatre Division Student of the Month for April. King is enrolled as a political science major and was nominated by Chipola Theatre Director Raines Carr. He is the President of the Chipola Players Club and was elected as a sophomore representative on the Homecoming Court this year. He will transfer to Florida State University in the Fall. Chipola Oral Interpretation Chipola Oral Interpretation students recently performed for students at Chipola College on Monday, April 24, at 12:00 in the faculty dining room in the cafeteria. The students performed a variety of selections, mostly humorous, for their final presentations of the semester. Chipola College is an Equal Access/Equal Opportunity Institution Chipola Names New Head Women’s Basketball Coach John Marcum was announced as Chipola College’s new head women’s basketball coach at a press conference held on April 24, 2023 in the Ronnie Myers Hospitality Room of the Milton H. Johnson Center. With over 18 years of coaching experience at various levels of basketball, Marcum was the unanimous choice of the Chipola College search committee. “We are proud to bring a coach of John Marcum’s caliber to Chipola,” said Chipola Athletic Director Jeff Johnson. “I believe his extensive NCAA Division One coaching experience and his strong recruiting background will make him very successful at Chipola. We look forward to seeing him develop more student-athletes, continuing Chipola’s long history of success.” Marcum takes the helm of the Lady Indians basketball program after coaching stops at Syracuse, Butler, Grand Canyon, East Carolina, Indiana State, California Baptist, and Oklahoma Baptist. John is the proud father of Abby, Matty and Cooper Marcum.
