Stephanie Ward, Mathematics faculty, has been approved for promotion from Instructor to Assistant Professor. Chipola Ranks Well in The State and in The Nation On March 30, 2023, Chipola College hosted a press conference to share the rankings Chipola College received in the 2022-23 Academic Year. Chipola ranked well in the state of Florida and in the nation in 5 different online ranking polls. For a full list of the rankings, visit chipola.edu Chipola President Dr. Sarah Clemmons spoke about what an honor it is to be ranked on all 5 of the best colleges lists in multiple categories. Dr. Clemmons gave credit to the faculty and staff saying “I want to thank the Chipola faculty and staff for your investment in our students and academic programs. Because the services you provide and the oneon-one instruction helps make these rankings possible. By working together, we help our students succeed and get them prepared for the future.” Dr. Pam Rentz, VP of Instructional Affairs, spoke on Chipola’s high rankings on multiple lists as being one of the most affordable. Dr. Rentz said “We understand the cost of higher education can be a financial burden but we are dedicated to ensuring our students have the ability to pursue their dreams. Through scholarships and financial aid and affordable tuition, we are proud that we can present our students accessibility and affordability.” For 75 years, Chipola College has been meeting the students’ needs offering the Bachelor of Science Degree, the Associate of Arts Degree, the Associate of Science Degree and Workforce Development programs. In-state tuition and fees range from $2,335 to $3,550 per school year for two semesters. Out of state tuition for Alabama and Georgia residents is just $1 more per credit hour. Chipola PBL had a successful state conference in Orlando as Chipola’s Spring Break began. At the State Leadership Conference held March 16-19 in Orlando, Chipola students brought home 7 Top-5 awards, with three 1st place; two 2nd place; one 4th place; and one 5th place award. The students who competed this year were: Christopher Brockington of Malone: Senior, BSBA-Management; David Charles of Greenwood: Sophomore, Engineering; Chad Mayo of Bonifay: Sophomore, Computer Science; Angelina Hereld of Blountstown: Sophomore, Animal Science; Cullan Murray of Chipley: Senior, BSBA-Accounting; Jeremy Thomason of Vernon: Senior, BSBA-Information Systems. The highlight of the conference was the competitive events, which our students prepared for over the past few months. Chipola students have qualified to compete at the 2023 FBLA Collegiate (formerly named PBL) National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA, in late June. Christopher Brockington placed first in public speaking, Chad Mayo placed first in Help Desk, second in Programming Concepts and second in Management Concepts. Cullan Murray placed first in Accounting, David Charles placed fourth in Business Law and Jeremy Thomason placed fifth in Computer Concepts. School of Education: The School of Education dean and faculty attended and presented at the National Field Experience Conference on April 3 & 4 at the University of Northern Colorado. Their session discussed the college’s experiences implementing a full year internship with a co-teaching model to improve teacher candidate success, specifically in relation to classroom management. Topics included identified setbacks of the traditional semester-long internship, logistics of shifting to a year-long internship, defining and training the co-teaching model, and effects of the year-long internship on teacher candidate performance. Chipola College is an Equal Access/Equal Opportunity Institution Cornelius Clark has been selected for the Chipola College Faculty/Administrator/Other Professional Award of the month for April. Clark serves as an Assistant Professor/ Education Teacher and has worked at the college since 2019. Pictured from left, are: Chipola president, Dr. Sarah Clemmons and Cornelius Clark. Chipola Employee of the Month The Chipola Brain Bowl Team won the FCSAA State Championship on March 25 at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. The Chipola team earned the victory by defeating TCC 450-365 in the final to claim the title. Chipola has won the state championship 11 times. The Chipola team finished the tournament 9-1. Chipola’s only loss in the tournament was a 2nd round loss to TCC 275-355. However, by finishing 2nd in the pre-lims, Chipola was able to avenge the loss in the championship game. Brayden Hand and Taylor Munroe were tournament allstars, finishing 3rd and 5th respectively in individual scoring. Other team members are : Ben Parish and Trace Weaver. Chipola B finished 7th in the championship with a 3-6 record. Chipola B team members are: Trevor Shelton, Kevin Eldridge, Jack Taylor-Ebersole, and Noah Mercer. Chipola will next compete in Chicago this weekend at the 4 year college national championship. The top 4 community colleges earn a bid to the 4 year championship every year. This year TCC, Chipola, Southern Union and Murray State are the four community colleges who have earned a bid.
