Chipola Theatre Presents “Fancy Nancy: The Musical” Chipola College Theatre Department opened the children’s production “Fancy Nancy: The Musical” on May 6th to rave reviews by area school childrenthe very best audience by far! The show opened to the public on Thursday, May 9th and Friday, May 10th. Chipola College recently announced Thomas Schaefer as Faculty/Administrator/Other Professional of the Year and Debra Bragg as Career Employee of the Year for 2024 at the end of year luncheon back on May 1st. Thomas Schaefer was recognized as the Faculty/Administrator/Other Professional of the Year. Schaefer serves as an Assistant Professor in the school of Business and has worked at the college since 2020. Schaefer is an extremely present and active faculty member at Chipola. He places focus on his students and the college and often leads by example to ensure success. “Tom goes out of his way, on his own time, to help students and faculty.” Says Sherry Klanjac, his colleague. “I hear firsthand from my students that Dr. Schaefer provides the best feedback.” Theresa Pavone, another colleague, also said “Dr Schaefer has helped me to ensure my courses are set up correctly and that all of the content is always loaded as well. He is so supportive and really cares about his faculty and the Chipola community.” Debra Bragg was chosen as Career Employee of the Year. Bragg servers as a custodian in the Facilities and Campus Operations department and has worked at the college since 2022. Bragg works tirelessly in the administration building to make sure it is clean, orderly and presentable to everyone who enters the building. She comes in early at least one day a week to vacuum all of the carpet in the entire Administration building so she doesn’t interfere with anyone working. One colleague said, “Debra is always conscientious, helpful and friendly to anyone she encounters. She often goes out of her way to do the little things that go unnoticed by many.” The Employee of the Year award recognizes the exceptional work of Chipola’s employees. Candidates are nominated by fellow employees for exhibiting courtesy, motivation and professionalism. Annual winners receive a $1,000 bonus, reserved parking for a year, a oneyear membership in AFC, and a $100 gift certificate from the college Book Store. Chipola College 2024 Employees of The Year


Some 509 students were eligible for graduation at Chipola College at the end of the spring semester. The Chipola College commencement ceremony was held on Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Dothan Civic Center. Visit Chipola.edu to view the full list of graduates. Congratulations Class of 2024! Professor Stephanie Ward was chosen by her peers to receive the Kirkland Award for Excellence in Teaching and recognized at the 2024 Chipola College Commencement Ceremony on May 2, 2024. Professor Stephanie Ward has worked at Chipola since 2017 teaching both math courses and education courses. Stephanie is widely known as an excellent teacher that works hard to break down difficult mathematical concepts into digestible chunks of information for students. Many students have commented about how great of a teacher as well as how caring of a person she is. The Kirkland Award was established by brothers, J.R. Kirkland and David Kirkland, in honor of their parents, the late Willis and Carolyn Kirkland of Marianna. The award provides a $1,000 bonus to the annual recipient. Ward Wins Kirkland Award The Chipola Foundation scholarship application process has changed to an all online process for the Fall 2024 semester and the scholarship list and application links are now available on the Chipola College Foundation webpage at chipola.edu/foundation Mitch Rolls was announced as Chipola College’s new head women’s basketball coach at a press conference held on May 16, 2024 in the Ronnie Myers Hospitality Room of the Milton H. Johnson Center. Rolls replaces John Marcum who was recently named an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh. As the ninth head coach of the Lady Indians, Rolls will lead a program that has won seven FCSAA/NJCAA Region Championships and the 2015 National Championship. Coach Rolls comes to Chipola following one season at Iowa Western Community College where he led the Reviers to a 33-4 record and a sixth place finish in the 2024 NJCAA Women’s DII National Tournament. The 33 wins are the most in IWCC history. Coach Rolls comes to Marianna with his two sons, Mitch Jr. “MJ” (4), Maxton Stone (2), and their mother Misty Powelson.
