Chipola Theatre Presents “The Importance of Being Earnest”

The Chipola College Theatre Department continues the
2021-22 season with Oscar Wilde’s comedy, The Importance
of Being Earnest (Feb. 24-27).

One of the most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s works, this
production tells the story of two bachelors, John “Jack”
Worthing and Algemon “Algy” Moncrieff, who create alter
egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They
attempt to win the hearts of two women who claim to only
love men called Ernest. The pair struggle to keep up with
their own stories and become tangled in a tale of deception,
disguise and misadventure. Oscar Wilde’s brilliant comedy
captures the absurdity and delight of the Victorian “age of
surfaces” in a delightfully funny way. Tickets go on sale Feb.
7. ACT Fund members may redeem their tickets beginning
Jan. 31.

Other upcoming theatre performances include, Gee’s
Bend (March 31-April 1, 2022), Charlotte’s Web (May 12-13, 2022) and Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew (June 16-18,
