Chipola Brain Bowl Back on Top With Their Seventh National Championship Win! On February 24th, Chipola College won the 2024 NAQT Community College National Championship Tournament- their SEVENTH “Natty”! The Chipola Brain Bowl A team defeated Southern Union 230-195 in the finals to finish the tournament with a 12-1 record through the field. Chipola featured a scoring attack led by Brayden Hand, whose 78.90 scoring average placed fourth in the field and on the All-Star team for the tournament. Sophomore Hand was joined by three freshmen in Chipola A’s lineup: John Maupin, Cade Foxworth, and Seth Crutchfield. Maupin’s 34.86 scoring average earned him a place on the all-star team. Trevor Shelton of Chipola’s B team also made the all-star team. Chipola’s B team consisted of sophomores Trevor Shelton (captain), Chad Mayo, Oliver Nandho, and Jack Taylor-Ebersole. The B team finished 9th in the field of 24, with a record of 8-3. The team will now advance to the ICT (International Collegiate Tournament) to be held in Chicago in April. Chipola will compete against the other four-year schools who have qualified. Spring Frolics is April 4th Chipola College’s annual Spring Frolics will be Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 12 Noon until 2:45 p.m. on the Cafeteria Lawn (behind the Cafeteria). Students will be excused from classes to participate in this fun event! SGA and the Chipola Organizations will have some great activities lined up for the day. There will be music, giveaways and hotdogs & hamburgers for everyone. SGA Spring Elections will also take place. Everything is FREE, so come join the fun! Questions, call 718-2314 or come by the Student Activities Office, K-105. Chipola Indians Serve Community! Not only are the Chipola Men’s team the 2023-24 Panhandle Champions, they have been spotted out and about in our community making a difference! After the tornado that came through the area in January of this year, our guys served along with the Convoy of Hope response team at Evangel Church handing out supplies to those in need. And recently, some of the players visited Jackson County Early Childhood Center and spent some time reading and interacting with the young students. Our Indians are leaders on and off the basketball court. Auditions are Monday, March 11th, from 3:45-5:30 pm at the Chipola Center for the Arts. (Production dates: May 6th-9th Day Shows, May 9th & 10th Evening Shows) Audition Ages are 13 and up! Audition Material are available on our Facebook Page! All auditions are open to students and the community alike! Please bring your calendar with any conflicts between April 1st and May 10th. Dress to move! We look forward to seeing you all next Monday! Chipola Theatre Presents: Fancy Nancy the Musical On February 25th, Coach Jeff Johnson attained another milestone in his career as head coach of the Chipola baseball team. He collected his l,000th win with a 10-0 shutout over Grand Rapids Community College. During his 28 seasons at Chipola, Jeff has brought home three national championships (2007, 2017, 2018) along with 7 State Championships and 14 Panhandle Conference Championships. Jeff has been named NJCAA coach of the year three times and FCSAA coach of the year six times. He was named to the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2022 and the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. Congrats, Coach J!

This event saw over 20 university representatives join us on campus, providing invaluable guidance and insights to our students. The representatives were as follows: Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Albany State University, Baptist University of Florida, Chipola College Admissions, Chipola College School of Business & Technology, Chipola College School of Education, Florida A & M University Admissions, Florida State University School of Social Work, Florida State University Panama City, Thomas University, Troy University – Dothan, Troy University – Troy, Troy University Panama City, University of Alabama, University of North Florida, University of West Florida and Valdosta State University. The representatives were on hand to discuss the numerous transfer options available to students upon the completion of their Associate of Arts (AA) degrees. This was a golden opportunity for students to gain direct insights into their future educational pathways and to start planning their next steps in higher education. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the university representatives who took the time to participate in this event and share their knowledge with our students. Their presence was instrumental in making this event a resounding success. To our students, we hope you found the Transfer Day informative and enlightening. We encourage you to apply the knowledge gained from this event as you continue your academic journey and explore the vast opportunities that lie ahead. We were elated to have Miss Chipola, Danielle Mosley and Mr. Chipola, Jaylon Smith welcoming the students to the event.
