Lions Clubs International Roars With Their First Woman President 2018-19

Lion Gudrun Bjort Yngvadottir made
history by being the rst woman
International President of the Lions
Clubs International (LCI). The
charming lady now heads the
traditionally male-oriented LCI, an international non-
political service organization based in Chicago,
Illinois, United States. This service organization
nally admitted women as members in 1987. In
June 2018 Lion Gudron was elected as the First
Women International President at the 101st
International Convention held in Las Vegas.

FIRST LION LADY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT Lion Gudrun Yngvadottir, is a biomedical scientist
and former Vice Director of the Institute of
Continuing Education at the University of Iceland.
She has been a member of the Gardabaejar Eik Lions
Clubs since 1992. She has dedicated her service to
children & youths, leadership development,
environment protection, health and wellness, and
the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).

Lion Gudrun reminds us of the LCI motto 'We Serve”, and its pledge to serve 200 million people
every year. She says “We are the global leader in humanitarian service and we are proud of that”. Her
current priority is the global project on DIABETES. Her other important programs tackle vision and
sight, hunger, childhood cancer and the environment.

As a role model – her advice to women is “Develop your skills so that you are a strong individual, and
that way you too can be a role model. It has to be about feelings and plans. The two go together like
the brain and heart. Be Honest with yourself and to others, and if you have done wrong, you have to
correct it.”

The joys of serving as a volunteer, comes from helping the world. She says “You feel proud of
yourself and your community. It's not always money that gives you satisfaction, it's seeing that you
are making a difference in someone's life is important”.

Welcome First Lady President Lion Gudrun Bjort Yngvadottir To Lions District3231–A1
