Haiku

Icy blue stalagmites
Covering the bleak grey sky

Still as a picture

Blistering red fire
Shimmering skies move as waves

Melting the darkness

Downward the rains come
Glistening blades of dewed grass

Vibrant blooms of life

Bare browns shed their orange
Drifting down in final dance

Afternoon closes in

Borrowed for inspiration

Mr. Sepida looked forlornly out the rippling window, waves
of rain shivering downwards. He sucked the warm pipe greedily, and
thought of those below, who would surely freeze the morning after. His
steady hands had begun to shake now from the chill in the air, and as
he turned away from the city, he found himself present to a most
peculiar sight. His candle glowed as bright as he had lit it, but the waxy
body curved tightly down the table it was rested upon, and he could not
perceive the end of it. He was immensely curious to what he might
find, but to do so, he would need a light, and he had but one candle,
that swung back and forth, as if daring him to attempt a grab. He
certainly was not dressed to be engaging in such an activity, with his
nice silk jacket and tie. Now his nose had gone numb with the cold as
well, and without aid of a mirror, he could not tell to what it may be
doing without his permission. Mr S thought to himself what a funny
little scene this would make, a nose gone rogue, and a serpentine
candle against the cold of winter’s night

This second issue of InSPIREd, a literary and art magazine is, as expected,
different from the first. New artists, new work, and lots of creative ideas which
highlight the work of our students here at The Spire School. Please take a moment
to enjoy the work shown here. It represents many hours of thought, problem
solving, and personal commitment to self expression. These young artists and
writers have worked hard and met the challenge of trying something new to
produce work of clarity. It is honest and direct, and demonstrates that our students
have made difficult creative decisions to produce written work and completed
images of high quality.
