PICK AND PLACE PROCESS Pick and place robots are commonly used in modern manufacturing environments. Pick and place automation speeds up the process of picking up parts or items and placing them in other locations. Pick and place robots handle repetitive tasks while freeing up human workers to focus on more complex work. Figure : 2.5.5 : Pick and Place Process Source: www.automate.org INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS 45
PALLETIZING PROCESS Palletizing is a demanding application of stacking boxes, bags, cases, bottles, and cartons onto pallets as the last step in the assembly line before being loaded onto a shipping truck. Figure : 2.5.6 : Palletizing Process Source: robodk.com INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS 46
IN CLASS EXERCISE As a group, discuss an activity that you think could be automated by using a robot. 1.Define the tasks that the robot will perform. 2.What kind of special tooling is required? Sketch if you will use any. 3.Can the activity be justified economically? Show your development – do not simply say yes or no. INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS 47
