St. Francis DeSales High School 2024 Spring Sports Program 1 Letter from the Principal Dear Friends, It is with great pride that I welcome you to this athletic event on behalf of the St. Francis DeSales administration, faculty, and student body. As our guest, it is my hope that you are able to observe the tradition of pride and hard work that has enabled our student athletes and coaches to meet with outstanding success over the years. As a community we are certainly proud of the tradition of excellence associated with both our academic and athletic programs; however, we also realize none of this would be possible without God’s ample blessings. It is with this understanding that our teachers and coaches work with our young people to convey the inherent responsibility associated with representing this outstanding institution and fully taking advantage of the talents with which they have been blessed. St. Francis DeSales High School 2024 Spring Sports Program 5 Curriculum / Philosophy Empowering Students for Life General Information St. Francis DeSales High School has been designated twice (1992-1993 and 2001-2002) as an exemplary Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. SFD takes pride in the level of parental and community support, high degree of student participation in activities, the scope of support services offered, and the high academic achievement of the students. St. Francis DeSales High School boasts a curriculum that is not only innovative, but also challenging to students at all academic levels. With a nine period day, students can mix Theology, English, Math, Science and Social Studies with elective courses in the areas of business, computer science, and both the performing and visual arts. Mission Statement The mission of St. Francis DeSales High School is to provide a holistic educational experience in the Catholic tradition which prepares the mind, body, and spirit of each student to love God, seek truth, and live virtuously. Academics With an enrollment of approximately 875 students for the 2023-24 school year, St. Francis DeSales High School is large enough to provide academic diversity, yet small enough to ensure students receive individualized attention. Since 98% of our graduates enter college, our curriculum is structured to provide opportunities for successful college preparation. Our teachers expect our students to work, to study, and to learn. Students are placed in classes based on their ability level, where they will be challenged. St. Francis DeSales High School is proud to offer 18 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may elect to take these courses, giving them the opportunity to gain college credit before graduation. In addition to the Advanced Placement courses offered, college credit can also be earned through participation in College Credit Plus Program. Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities Recognized throughout the state of Ohio as a perennial power, St. Francis DeSales High School is proud of its inter-scholastic sports programs. Our competitive athletics program reinforces lifelong values such as the importance of commitment, the necessity of teamwork, and the benefit of physical activity. It is on the playing field that our student-athletes learn how to win with grace, and lose with dignity. SFD also offers over 50 cocurricular clubs and activities to meet the diverse interests and talents of our students. Involvement in these programs builds pride, self discipline, and confidence. At DeSales, there is literally something for everyone! Campus Ministry The office of Campus Ministry is charged with fostering an atmosphere in which the faith community of students, faculty, and administration can become more fully developed and apparent. Through retreats, prayer and worship, service learning, pastoral care, and peer ministry, SFD strives to provide opportunities for the entire school community to grow in their faith. Rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, the Campus Ministry department prides itself on helping each and every individual along their spiritual journey. Faculty SFD faculty members, the majority of whom hold advanced degrees, bring a wealth of experience and education to the classroom. The care and concern for the well-being of each student is evident in the availability and involvement of our teachers with the students.

10 St. Francis DeSales High School 2023 Spring Sports Program Athletic Director Tom Neubert Athletic Director Tom Neubert graduated from Lansing High School in Lansing, New York in 1992 and continued his academic and athletic career at Cortland State University where he was a member of the baseball team. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education in 1997, Tom spent three years coaching Division I college baseball at Miami University (1997-1998, 1999) and Cornell University (1998-1999). In 2000, he took a position as the Health and PE teacher and began coaching baseball in 2001 at Cardington-Lincoln Schools. Over the next seven years, he compiled a 93-61 record. Also during that time, he earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Miami University. Tom joined the DeSales family in 2007, teaching Health and heading up the Baseball program for the Stallions. This is Tom’s 14th year as Athletic Director and 17th season as head baseball coach at DeSales. The St. Francis DeSales athletic department, an essential component of the educational experience, challenges each involved student to achieve his or her personal best, pursue competitive excellence, and be a contributing team member by providing varied opportunities, quality facilities, resources and staff in partnership with parents and a diverse community rich in tradition – a tradition that has been established through our 34 state championships over the past 50 years. We continue to offer a high quality education and competitive interscholastic opportunities with a faith-centered focus to our participants. The overall goal is to enhance and develop values that foster leadership, self-discipline, teamwork, personal and civic responsibility, integrity, dignity and sportsmanship.
