Munich vs Milwaukee

Munich hosts the most prodigious hifi show in the world each spring. It's the débutante ball
party for most manufacturers. Let's take a look at the 2016 show.

Munich
Magazines are excited about a new 8” 3-way in a fancy cabinet for $20k. No matter how artsy

the cabinet looks, that's still a lotta coin for what boils down to be an 8” 3-way.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the exceptional Bryston Mini T. At $3400

per pair, the Mini T is also an 8” 3-way. But the 8” woofer used in Bryston
speakers isn't like the 8” you see in anybody else's speaker. With
monstrously heavy cast frame and magnet, the Bryston 8 is more than
you'll see in a subwoofer. Combine that with ceramic coated aluminum
construction, a commensurately built 4” midrange driver and 1” Titanium
tweeter- it's easy to get excited about the Bryston. It's not so easy
to get excited about the arty 20k newbie in Munich.

Munich
There's a massive Danish turntable for a mere $18k the mags like. It has a vacuum pump.

Tonearm? Cartridge? Surely you're kidding? Those are a la carte.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the Rega RP-6. At $1500 it

comes with outboard power supply and terrific tonearm! Can
you imagine?! Add a wonderful Rega Exact 2 cartridge with
single piece cantilever and line contact stylus, and for $2k
you'll give the Danes a real battle!

Munich
The mags are happy to see a new French integrated amp, 100x2 for $4k with a bunch of digital

inputs.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the PeachTree Nova 150 integrated amp,

$1500. It pumps out 150x2, also has a pile of digital inputs with latest
Sabre DAC, analog inputs including MM phono. It's built in North
America to boot!

Munich
The magazine guys are enthused about a Swiss DAC for only $14k.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium is happy to offer the Bryston BDA-3

for $3500 which takes a back seat to nobody, or nuthin.
Oh, and we have the Emo DC-1 for $500 which is an

extremely heavy puncher for its price class.

Munich
There's a new $110k pile of boxes to play CDs from the UK. Named after a composer, it's

supposed to be outstanding. I'm sure it is.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the brand new Hegel Mohican CD

Player, $5000. This is Hegel's all out assault on state of the art red
book discs. Hegel has a handful of unique tactics, including its
patented Sound Engine technology, to get the best out of your CD
collection. At 20 some times cheaper than the UK guys, we'd rather
you invest in the Mohican. Regardless of price, we don't think the Mohican takes a back seat in performance
either.

Munich
Some of the writers are jazzed over a new 25k integrated amp with 35x2 of tube power.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium is delighted to offer the

Rogue Cronus Magnum II integrated amp, 100x2
for $2500. Built in Pennsylvania with solid
company and 3 year warranty to back it up, we'll
bet on the Rogue as the better investment.

Munich
Those Swiss guys also showed a new $18k preamp. It's got a headphone jack.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the Emotiva XSP-1

for a grand. It is a dual rail, fully balanced (2
balanced ins and 2 balanced outs!) preamp. It
supports RCA connections too of course, and
even
has a sub out with crossover on the preamp. It
has an excellent phono section on board, MM &
MC! And yup, it's got a headphone jack.

Munich
The Japanese have a $15k, 30x2 integrated amp the writers took note off.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the Rogue Sphinx

v2 integrated amp. At $1400, Sphinx has a tube
preamp section and 100x2 amp on board. It
supports MM phono and comes with a cool
remote. You'll have to spend that extra $14k on
something else.

Munich
The show debuted a couple of monoblock amps, $39k each, 400w each.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium is happy to offer the Bryston 7B Cubed amps.

$5700each. Each monoblock produces 600 watts and has a 20 year
warranty. Considering Bryston has been in biz since 1963, this warranty
is meaningful. Nobody takes care of its customers better than Bryston!

Munich
There's a new power conditioner for $9000 the writers liked.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium will gladly stack up the

Isotek Aquarius ($2k, 6 outlets including two high
powered outlets for gigundo monoblocks) against
anything out there. We're sure there are plenty of
good mains conditioners on the market. No doubt.
But importer MoFi (Mobile Fidelity) has done an exhaustive comparison of them with Aquarius being
a class shattering performer. Each outlet of Aquarius is isolated individually, so there's no component
cross contamination. You've got to hear it to appreciate how much of an improvement it makes. And
again, it handles your big boy amps as well as modest power.

Munich
A US company is proud to show a $15k per pair speaker with two

5” Seas drivers and a 1” Seas tweeter. Oh boy.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium can demo for you the GoldenEar Triton One. At

$5k per pair, the T-1 uses a ribbon tweeter, two 6” mids in D'Ap config,
and three 5x9” powered (1600w) subs PER TOWER. You'll love em!

Munich
A new flat panel speaker that looks like an

Apogee is out. Only $24k per pair.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium can demo for you the

stunning Magnepan MG 3.7i. At $6k per pair, the
Maggie has definition second to none. The Maggie
features a true ribbon tweeter (not something glued
to something) and Quasi design which is
unparalleled for the price in our biz. If you're open to
a tall panel that can come out from the back wall
three feet, go with the Real McCoy, Magnepan.

Munich
The Germans have a speaker that works on the old Walsh driver for a mere $14k. You get an

8” floor firing woofer and listen to the arse end of an upside down aluminum megaphone.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium offers the GoldenEar Triton 2+ for $3500pr if you're looking

for great dispersion. With ribbon tweeter, two 5” mids in D'Ap config, and two 5x9”
powered (1200w) subs per tower, T 2+ images like a bear. You won't believe the
cabinets can be “out there” while the singer is dead center! If you need wide spread
in your room, you want GoldenEar.

Munich
Oooh. Oooh. Now they've found a 30x2 tube power amp for $8400.

Milwaukee
Audio Emporium can offer the new Emo XPA-

2 G3. At $900 it is built in the USA and produces
300x2. With cutting edge power supply you won't
believe how Herculean power can wake up your
speakers!

If you want an absolutely dyanmite “small”
power amp, look no further than the Emo BasX
A-300, 150x2 for $400. These Emo amps are so
good you'll be shaking your head over the stuff
shown in Munich.

Summing Up
In summary, yes, we're having fun at the

expense of audio rags who are all whipped up
about products “nobody” can afford. The show in Munich is about new and bodacious gear. It's
fantasy land.

But, the rest of us here in Milwaukee live in the real world. We work for a living and want a
dollar's worth of performance for a dollar spent.

Audio Emporium has products that perform conspicuously well at affordable prices. Our store
is full of them. We can help you make the best sound that YOUR wallet can afford.
