Geography

Thailand is ranked 50th in size area among other
countries from around the world. It is a bit bigger than
Spain and a bit smaller than Yemen.
The Capital
Bangkok is the world’s most visited city ahead of
London and became the country’s capital in 1782. The
ceremonial name of the city is listed in Guinness World
Records as the longest name of a place on earth.
Royal Family
The King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn
Bodindradebayavarangkun, know as Rama X,
ascended to the throne at the age of 64 in 2016,
after his father’s Bhumibol Adulyadej death.

Religion

Over 94% of the population consider themselves to
be Buddhists of the Theravada tradition. The second
largest religious group is Muslims who account for 5%.
Religion forms an integral part of the Thai identity and
culture.

Festivals

The two most colorful Thai festivals are Songkran and
LoiKratong. Songkran, the Thai New Year, splashes with
water in the middle of April; a beautiful and meditative
LoiKratong festival lights up the skies of the Kingdom
with sky lanterns and decorates the rivers with elaborate
50 kratongs floating on the water.
