FACILITY RENTALS: Palisade’s recreation facilities are available for private functions
and commercial use. Contact the Recreation Department for rates and availability.

4 Community Garden

Plot Rentals & Education

2016 Plots available for rent beginning Jan 11th! The Town of Palisade supplies water, soil, and a
community compost. Low-income rates available for qualifying participants: WIC, Medicare, Medicaid,
SNAP, and free or reduced lunch program participants are eligible to apply.

New this year, garden renters can plant along the trellis for no additional cost.

Gardening Classes
Join Palisade Recreation and special guests for educational programs and hands on gardening classes for
all ages. Each class must have a minimum of 3 participants to run, please RSVP by the deadline.

Seedling Starters: Start your garden early with home grown seedlings using recycled materials from your
home. Seedlings will be ready for garden transplant in May. Learn tips and tricks for common
vegetables. Fee includes all supplies and each participant will take home a batch of seedlings.

Birdhouse Gourds: Invite birds into your back yard with a decorative hand-made birdhouse, built out of
gourds grown in the Palisade Community Garden. Fees include all art supplies and building materials for
a personalized bird house.

Honey Bees: Bees are crucial to a successful garden. Learn about bees, how to attract them, how to
support a healthy bee population, and learn the basics of beekeeping. The Free lecture will be held at
the Palisade Bakery, grab a drink or snack and enjoy the discussion topic.

Community Garden Day: Lend a hand and help get the community garden ready for the 2016 season.
Individuals making advance plot reservations can also get their garden plot with a group of friends new
and old. Liven up the trellis with vine type plants. Light refreshments will be provided.

Arts, Education, & Activities

Tots Tumbling (Ages 2-4): Through tumbling, tots will build coordination and improve concentration.
Participants will engage in tumbling exercises, introduction to balance beam, and dismounts.

Mini Artists (Ages 3-5): Tots are invited to explore their inner artist through a variety of projects that will

STRIDER Bikes (Ages 2-4): STRIDER is a no-pedal balance bike, a perfect tool for teaching balance and
riding skills in kids of all ages. Participants will learn the fundamentals of riding from balance, leaning,
and steering.

Get Active & Play Sports!

Winter Swim Conditioning (Ages 8-14): Join the Palisade Swim Team! Winter conditioning is designed
to get swimmers ready for the summer competitive season, with a focus on drills, stroke techniques, and
endurance swimming. Participants must be proficient in all strokes and be able to swim a minimum of
50 yards continuously. Swimmers should bring a water bottle, goggles, and swim cap.

Rookie Rugby (Grades 5th-7th): Learn the basics of rugby through a non-contact mini camp focused on
drills, passing techniques, and rules of the game. Learn about Rugby before the sport debuts in the
Olympics, for the first time at the 2016 summer games.

Youth Pickleball (8-12): Youth and any adult partner are invited to learn the sport of Pickleball through a
fun three week clinic. This activity is perfect for two siblings, grandparent and grand child, or open to
parents too. Equipment available if needed.

Early Release Programs are held on Wednesdays 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM with after school pick up at 1:50
PM available to Taylor Elementary students. Youth from other schools are welcome to join, but are
responsible for their own transportation to the program.

Winter Wonderland (Ages 6-11): Enjoy a combination of winter inspired games from snowflake
scavenger hunts to indoor floor hockey and many more. Participants should come dressed in warm
clothes, including jacket, gloves, hat, and tennis shoes or boots.

Science Camp (Grades 2nd-5th): Kids will have fun while learning science in this six-week camp.
Students will build their own weather station, view amazing bugs at the Insectary, make their own roller
coasters, create dinosaur fossils, see whose hand-made bridges last the longest under pressure, and
build a doorbell while learning about electricity.

Spring into Action (Ages 6-11): Youth will play a variety of active games and become adventurous
outdoors with nature walks and scavenger hunts.

Reel ’em In (Ages 6-11): Get ready for the summer with a fun-filled fishing camp at Riverbend Park.
Youth will learn the basics of fishing, proper etiquette, and outdoor safety. Participants will get to keep
their fishing poles at the end of the camp, courtesy of Cabela’s.

Cross Country Ski Day (Grades 4th-6th): Enjoy Spring Break on the Grand Mesa playing in the snow.
The day will begin with a cross country ski demonstration, an afternoon in the snow, and end with
games at the gym. Participants should pack a lunch, water, and dress in warm-waterproof layers.

BMX Bike Clinic: Do you love bikes? Bring the whole family, regardless of your age for a FREE bike clinic
at the NEW Palisade Bike Skills Park. Tots are also welcome to demo STRIDER bikes for free. Participants
will learn the basics of BMX riding, how to properly maneuver through the beginner and intermediate
areas of the bike park, and new mountain bikers can also benefit by learning basic body position,
balance, and proper shifting.

flexibility in this low-moderate impact class incorporating weight training and cardio intervals.

Yoga: Both classes are beginner/intermediate level classes that begin with a sun salutation and
end with a guided meditation. These classes are a blend of Iyengar and Hatha yoga, with a
short Vinyassa yoga segment at the end of each class.

NIA: NIA classes offer total body cardiovascular conditioning and cross training through a combination of
movements and concepts from Yoga, Martial Arts, and Modern Dance. NIA is also gentle on the joints.

Full Moon Yoga: Say goodbye to the old and hello to the new through a dynamic yoga practice including
live music, guided meditation, and focus on energy balance to release stress and refresh the mind and

Meditation: De-clutter your mind with an intro to meditation, descriptions of the various forms of
meditation and how they affect the subtle body. Learn how to apply this practice into various suitable
poses, environments and techniques.

Chakra Fun Class: Great introduction to the main energy centers of the body known as chakras. The
workshop will explore and positively influence these energy centers through the use all of the senses.

Pranayama Yoga: Curious about how yogis use their breath to control the body and mind?
The fundamental principles of pranayama will be demonstrated and practiced. Discover how stress,

Earth Day Inspired Class: Honor the Earth and celebrate our home through walking meditation, gentle

Bunco Nights: Meet new friends and connect with old friends through a fast paced dice game where
prizes are awarded and there are numerous ways to win the game. Desert, tea, and cocoa will be served
at each Bunco Night.

Day in the Life of Palisade Photo Scavenger Hunt: Show off your Palisade LOVE with a fun scavenger
hunt to various locations throughout town. Join us in May for a reception to showcase all the photos
and award prizes; light refreshments and cash bar will be available.

Adult Judo: Judo teaches it’s participants the use of maximum efficiency with a minimum of effort by
using the opponents weight, balance and momentum against themselves. Judo is the most widely
practiced martial art in the world and second most practiced sport behind soccer.

communities. Participants will learn about some of these ghost towns and see photos and maps
of the sites.

Archaeology & History of Unaweep Canyon: Evidence of humans living and working in Unaweep
Canyon date back to the prehistoric times. Join Palisade Recreation & Special Guests for an interpretive
tour of Unaweep Canyon to learn about the extensive history and archeology of the area. Pack a lunch,
water, sunscreen, and wear sturdy hiking shoes.

Fun in the Snow & On the Trails

Snowshoe Series: Head to the Grand Mesa to play in the snow with Palisade Recreation. Each month
the group will explore a new trail. Dress in layers, pack water, lunch, dry boots, and snowshoes or cross
country skis. Bring money for a hot chocolate stop on the return trip.

Hiking & Day Trips

Spring Hiking Series: Get outdoors and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Grand Valley with the Spring
hike series, exploring a variety of trails. Bring water, snacks, sturdy shoes, layers, and sunscreen.

Arches Day Trip: Spend the day hiking and sight seeing in Arches National Park, with hikes ranging from
a half mile to four miles. Pack a lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, camera, wear comfortable shoes,
and dress in layers.

Glenwood Springs Adventure & Soak: Visit Glenwood Caverns for a morning of exploring the Fairy
Caves, take a short walk along the paved river trail, and top off the day with an afternoon soak at the
brand new Iron Mountain Hot Springs pool. The caves stay at a constant 52 degrees and consist of
approximately 130 steps that participants will have to go down and back up. Pack a lunch, water,
comfortable walking shoes, extra layers for the cave tour, and swim gear.

Bluegrass at the Blue Pig: Calling all artists, the Town of Palisade will showcase the Bluegrass Fest
through the 1st Annual Bluegrass and Roots Music Festival Art Show. The art show will be held during
the month of February, ending with a reception and People’s Choice voting. The winning art piece will
be announced at the reception.
Cash prize for winning artist and the artwork will be used in 2016 Bluegrass marketing.

Skate Park Planning & Community Input: the Town of Palisade is currently in the planning process to
redesign the skate park at Memorial Park, which will be built in 2017. The community is invited to share
their input at two different design sessions.
