PROMOTIONAL EDITION
WINTER ART SPECTACULAR
NOVEMBER 12 & 13 IN BOULDER CITY

Nevada’s First Arts and Crafts Magazine

Hello Friends,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sal Guanci, and I am an art show
promoter and an advocate for the arts, the artisans who create it and the
fans who appreciate it. We support the idea of an interactive family
experience and create events that support imagination.

When I started Artisan Craft Festival, it was with the vision of large scale outdoor festivals creating
family art experiences and unique opportunities to express oneself. We are the conduit between
artist and the people who love them and appreciate their work.

Community support is at the core of Artisan Craft Festival. Every event is tailored to benefit a charity
in need of volunteers, donations, love and support. Toys for Tots, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Las
Vegas Rescue Mission, Easter Seals,Toys4Smiles, United Blood Services, USO,VFW,The Salvation Army
and Volunteers of America are just a few of our very fine benefactors. We strive to support
community art projects and education through our partnership with Boulder City Art Guild.

Our support of small local business is completely woven into the fabric of our organization. As
members of the BBB and Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, we pride ourselves on using locally
owned and operated companies. Our support of small business has attracted vendors from near and
far.

Thank you for your kind attention, and welcome to the Artisan.

Lee McDonald is the photographer of choice for Artisan Magazine.

The Homestead at Boulder City

By The Heart of our Support
PAT WALL

When you ?rst meet Michael (Call me Mike) Fox, Residence Director of The Homestead
at Boulder City, one of America’s uplifting senior living facilities, you just know he is a
very special man. Mike’s journey toward the career he describes as the joy of his
professional life, is as varied and unique as this man himself.

His career path began in the 1980’s working as the Hotel Director for the Continental
Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Then, in the 1990’s his entrepreneurial spirit led him to
open his own custom jewelry business, aptly named, Foxy Jewelry.

Several years into his design business, an uncle he had been close to growing up, became extremely ill, needing full-time
senior health care. All it took was one call from is Uncle George saying, “Mike, I need you,” and Mike was on his way to
Amarillo, Texas, where he remained for the next ?ve years, tending to all of his uncle’s needs from morning until night,
letting this special relative know how much he cared.

After Uncle George passed away, Mike had an Ah Ha! moment. He knew what he waned to do for the rest of his life. He
found that he loved to tend to the needs of the elderly. Determined to be the very best at his chosen career, Mike began
his education, wanting to learn all he could about his chosen profession.

It doesn’t take long to realize that Mike is a loving, compassionate man with a special desire to excel in the ?eld of
geriatrics. He moved back home to his family in South Dakota, seeking employment in assisted living facilities in Nebraska
and Iowa, learning all he could about his chosen career through on-the-job training.

Mike’s father was a missionary who, through the example he set, led him to seek employment in a faith-based charity, a
non-pro?t senior care facility. Searching the internet for job postings, a position became available in Boulder City, Nevada.
Mike applied for the position and after about a six month’s process of interviews and background checks, in 2013 Mike
was hired as Residence Director of The Homestead in Boulder City, where he happily is doing the job he loves.

Volunteers of America, Mike’s employer, is as unique and special as the man himself. It started in 1896 By Ballington and
Maud Booth in New York. Ballington left the Salvation Army that was founded by his father, as they felt they could o?er
more to the entire populous in all areas of care. And they were right! Ballington and his father had a major disagreement
over this that led to an estrangement lasting for the rest of his life. And sadly, Maud’s family treated her no better. She
had been a socialite who became estranged from her family when she gave up her socialite ways and didn’t return to the
fold. A true love story! It was love for each other as man and wife and love for their chosen career that made the lives of
countless others much better through their faith and the love of caring for the many needs of those less fortunate.

The Health Care Division of Volunteers of America started in the Mike Fox, Residence Director of
1960’s when they purchased their ?rst nursing home. The Homestead at Boulder City
Volunteers of America is a faith-based charity non-pro?t who
are their own church. They address the needs of the Visits with Edna Filson
community they are in, o?ering the PACE Program (Patient
Assisted Care) handling all medical needs including Adult Care,
Memory Care, Alzheimer’s Transitional Care, Skilled Nursing
Care plus Geriatric and Psych units. The Homestead at Boulder
City is a tastefully appointed 84-bed facility that o?ers memory
care and assisted living. The Homestead o?ers families
resources in the community to help them deal with the
changing needs of their senior family members.

Boulder City - Best by a Dam Site Partnering With Our Community

“Clean, Green Boulder City” - “A World
Away for a Day”.

These are just a few of the great slogans
and statements made regarding Boulder
City. We are so proud of our quaint little
town and want you to be our guest in
experiencing its historic charm.

Boulder City is the only major in Nevada without gaming, and is home to the State’s number one tourist attraction,
Hoover Dam. This is a wholesome, family-oriented city, with a signi?cant retirement community that takes pride in its
low crime rate and high-quality police and ?re protection. We are ideally located between the entertainment and
excitement of Las Vegas and Henderson and the recreation paradise of Lake Mead Recreation area, containing North
America’s largest man-made lake.

Boulder City may be controlled by a slow-growth ordinance, and
therefore remains a small community by design, but we host some
really big events. Art in the Park and Spring Jamboree are two of the
largest events in Boulder City, drawing nearly 100,000 guests to the
historic district’s beautiful government parks. You’ll never ?nd a dull
weekend, as there is always something happening.

The attractions and recreational opportunities have put Boulder City on the International map. Bootleg Canyon is
world renowned for its amazing mountain hiking and zip lines that soar over two breathtaking views of Bootleg and
Hemenway Valley. If these daring guests look really hard while sailing through the air, they might spot one of the
many big horn sheep lying on the cool grass of our pristine parks.

Boulder City’s friendly atmosphere and enjoyable
pace really gives you a sense of down home
charm. We’d love to have you join us for a relaxing
stroll through old town, a challenging game of golf
at one of our grand golf courses, a little shopping
in the business corridor, or an appetizing meal at a
favorite restaurant. No matter what mood you
arrive in, Boulder City will bring a smile to your
face and draw you back time and time again.

Check out the City’s Master Calendar on the
Chamber’s website for an up-to-the-minute listing
of all events.
