2018 LOCAL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
SHRISHTI BOODALOO
Dear readers,
It is with great pleasure that I am addressing you a few words for the second
edition of our 2018 newsletter. Half of this ‘One Year to Lead’ is over with lots of
experiences conquered.
During this second quarter of the year, JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill has organised
the 2018 JCI Mauritius Public Speaking championship. Before this event, a training
was organised for the participants by our trainer, Dr. Vedita Cowlessur. In May, a
training on Speaking with confidence was organised for the JCI family by Mr.
Dharamjeet Bucktowar. This training was to help in facing the fear of speaking in
public and gave an insight of how to be an effective Master of Ceremony.
JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill recently collaborated with JCI Quatre-Bornes for a Peace is Possible activity, which was in
partnership with UOM PIPO Club and Peace Revolution. The activity was based on a workshop on Self-development and
Peace by Mr. Kuldeep Singh, a Peace agent.
I would like to thank Editor in Chief, Santdesh Gujoo, for the wonderful work and dedication as well as Jiovanni Juliette for
helping in making this newsletter a success. I wish you all a pleasant reading.
Let’s Act Together!

NU COIN SOCIAL: MEETING WITH ENN NOU SOLEIL DAN CHEBECS
Needless to say that one of the most motivating aspects
of working on a community project is when you see the
motivation and commitment within the members of a
community having the dedication and drive similar to that
of us JCI members to bring changes within the community.
Local President Shrishti and I visited Cite Chebec, an area
located within the town of Beau-Bassin, particularly in the
region of Chebel, to collaborate with them to tackle the
various problems being encountered within their
community. One person who caught my admiration in
particular is a person called Windy. She manages the local
store in the area but she find a lot of time during her
schedule to bring positive changes in her locality. It all
started out with a basic needs analysis and also meeting
other various community members for an impactful clean
up on World Clean Up day and also many other
partnerships to help them make Cite Chebec be better.
I think anyone can be an active citizen, an active citizen is
one with the drive to bring positive changes in their
community. ''
Yours in JCI Spirit,
Philip Chang-Ko
2018 National Vice President

NU COIN SOCIAL – CIVIC MOVEMENT AGAINST TRASH WITH ENN NOUVO SOLEIL DAN CHEBECS
On the occasion of world clean-up day the 15th September 2018, the association Enn Novo Soleil Dan Chebecs in collaboration with
JCI Beau Bassin Rose Hill will be organizing a cleanup campaign for the locality of chebecs situated in Chebel. As aspiring member
of JCI Beau Bassin Rose Hill, it's a new and ambitious experience to meet up with different members of Enn Novo Soleil Dan
Chebecs. The association consists of both youngsters and elders who are enthusiastic for positive changes in their living
environment. We are a team which transcend its members and connect, to act for an impact. Mauritius is a country of green
economy and we are here to protect and preserve our green culture of the island for a better future...

ZEN SCOOL – SPEAKING WITH CONFIDENCE 10
Confidence plays an essential role in public
speaking. Speaking in public is a big part of JCI.
JCI offers many opportunities and development
for young people to speak in front of an audience.
Very often, members and aspiring members are
call upon to take the role as MC during JCI
events.
This training on ‘Speaking with Confidence’ was
therefore organised by JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill
to give a better insight on how to face the fear of
speaking in public, act as an effective MC and
speak confidently in front of an audience. The
training was conducted by Mr Dharamjeet
Bucktowar who is the founder of speak up
toastmaster’s club. The training was held at the
Aura Institute of Business and Hospitality.
During the training, everyone got the chance to
speak in front of the audience. A fun activity was
conducted by the trainer whereby each one had
to describe the person next to him. This exercise
helped to better bond among Jaycees and also to
build up confidence to speak in public. The trainer
gave some very useful tips which helped to
sharpen our speaking skills. Many of us would
feel more confident to take the role of MC.
As Project Director, it was an enriching
experience organizing this training. The training
was overall engaging, educational and
motivational. Thanks to everyone that attended.

AN INSIGHT: DYLANN PERMALLOO
First of all, I am very grateful to JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill for giving me the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge
to the JCI family through their second newsletter.
Who am I?
I am Dylann Permalloo, graduated in Sociology from the University of Mauritius and currently volunteering for World Peace
Initiative Foundation (WPI) under the Peace Revolution project based in Thailand. I am a Peace Agent, City Coordinator for
Curepipe, Mauritius and a Peace Coach for WPI.
What is Peace Revolution?
Peace Revolution is ‘an online platform that aims to help individual cultivate individual inner peace before sharing the peace to
people around the world,’ (Peace Revolution, 2012). The core principles of Peace Revolution are Self-Development and
Meditation and presently 111,821 individuals from 236 different countries and territories have already taken part in the self-
development program and conducted 5,088 meditation sessions within their networks among 160 countries so far.
How did I join?
Back in February 2017, I came across the Peace Revolution project through Facebook while pursuing my daily routine of scrolling
up and down. I successfully joined the Peace Revolution family by completing the 42-Day Self-Development Programme along
with online and offline Special Ops to secure eligibility for their International Fellowships. I participated in the Global Peace on The
Move 20 fellowship for a period of two weeks in June 2017 in Himawan Forest Sanctuary in Thailand learning about self-
development and mediation with monks.
For more information, I highly recommend everyone to visit the Peace Revolution’s website.
https://peacerevolution.net/#/
How am I contributing to World Peace?
Back to Mauritius, I co-created the UoM PIPO Club at the University of Mauritius where I currently stand as President. One of our
biggest event was in September 2017 during the UoM Student Week where we managed to recruit more than 20 individuals in
our club. During the year, we had small workshops on Self-Development, Leadership Skills, Stress Management and Meditation
for our fellow friends and colleagues at the university.
Collaboration with JCI
During our Mauritius Mini PIPO in June 2018, Peace Revolution successfully collaborated with JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill and
JCI Quatre-Bornes for a workshop on Leadership Skills, Stress Management, Work-Life Balanced and Meditation conducted by
the Director of Asia-Pacific Affair and Peace Architect for WPI, Kuldeep Singh with an audience of 19 participants at the MCCI
Business School in Ebène.
What is my vision?
The real question nowadays is how to make the world a better place for our future generations? Meditation is the answer. By
being able to create our own inner peace, we are able to share a peaceful ideology to our cohorts and simultaneously generating
a calm and restful environment, free from violence, corruption and all social evils.
Peace starts within ourselves - Be the Change!
