Sisterly Serving You F.I.R.S.T. FROM THE DESK OF THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR North Atlantic Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq. February 2024 Dear Sorors, I am super excited, and immeasurably humbled, to address you once again as the Director of the Notable North Atlantic Region (NAR), our esteemed sorority’s F.I.R.S.T. Region! From the very first days of its inception, up until the present day, this region has served as the backdrop for countless acts of sisterliness, millions of hours of service, and an endless pursuit of scholarship that is second to none. Soror Elicia Sisterly service is the hallmark of this Administration, and across the 11 states and the District of Columbia that we serve, sorors of the North Atlantic Region carried out this mission in ways and means that continue to astound and impress. You’ve embraced our international initiatives with a fervor that is unsurpassed, helping to lift Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. as it continues to SOAR. Our guiding pillars of Fellowship, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Thrive have provided us with the incentive to elevate, educate, and escalate on levels that have surpassed our greatest expectations and stoked our wildest imaginations. Sorors, we have DONE that, and you all should be proud of yourselves and the outstanding work you have accomplished in our never-ending quest to provide FIRST-class service to all mankind. Throughout 2023 up to now, through stellar programming and relentless dedication, chapters and members all along the northern East coast have represented Alpha Kappa Alpha in exemplary fashion, solidifying our region’s reputation as one that leads by precept and example. We’ve honored our seniors, uplifted our youth, stepped up our advocacy, and pursued new opportunities for beneficial partnerships with corporations, thought-leaders, and other community-based organizations—as well as within our own ranks— all for the greater good. You have embraced our sisterhood’s new Membership Experience, resulting in the North Atlantic Region’s continued growth, and you’re crushing our region’s certification and leadership institutes, providing a rich pool from which to draw future leaders. Our outreach via eblasts, newsletters, and social media has been robust and impactful, allowing the good and noteworthy works being done throughout the North Atlantic Region to be spotlighted and shared. And we’ve had FUN! Herewith, on these pages, are some highlights of a benchmark year— our second year—that I’ve experienced with you, as your proud servant-leader. With my eternal gratitude, and your continued love, support, and prayers, together, we can continue the trend towards a future where the best is yet to come. Stay tuned! Sisterly, ®

SERVICE IS THE RENT WE PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF LIVING ON THIS EARTH - Shirley Chisholm Within Alpha Kappa Alpha, and specifically in the Notable North Atlantic, service is our mission, our goal, our prime directive. Since our sisterhood’s inception, each member has pledged to render service internationally, regionally, and locally, with passion and with purpose, in the interest of lifting others as we ourselves climb. By executing our international and local programming intentionally and fervently, we continue to stoke the fires that keep the AKA mission burning brightly and perpetually. Throughout 2023, NAR chapters worked hard to Empower Our Families, Build Our Economic Wealth, Enhance Our Environment, Advocate for Social Justice, Uplift Our Local Communities, and Strengthen Our Sisterhood. Locally, we’ve provided scores of Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Packs (AKA CHIPP™), skillfully led Youth Leadership Institutes (AKA YLI), advocated for mental illness awareness, tended to the needs of the seniors in the communities we serve, and collected scores of donations that improve the quality of life for those most in need. For North Atlantic sorors, service is a serious matter! Sisterly Serving You F.I.R.S.T. NAR By the Numbers As of December 31st, our sorors committed 163,357 total service hours to programs and serving the communities under Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood programs.
