America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)
By Rev. Samuel F. Smith
My country, 'tis of Thee, Sweet Land of Liberty, Of thee I
sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims'
pride, From every mountainside, Let Freedom ring.
My native country, thee, Land of the noble free, Thy name I
love; I love thy rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed
hills, My heart with rapture thrills, Like that above.
Let music swell the breeze, And ring from all the trees Sweet Freedom's
song;
Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake; Let
rocks their silence break, The sound prolong.
Our fathers' God to Thee, Author of Liberty, To thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright, With Freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might, Great God, our King.
Our glorious Land to-day, 'Neath Education's sway, Soars upward still.
Its hills of learning fair, Whose bounties all may
share, Behold them everywhere, On vale and hill!
Thy safeguard, Liberty, The school shall ever be, Our Nation's pride!
No tyrant hand shall smite, While with encircling
might, All here are taught the right, With Truth allied.
Beneath Heaven's gracious will, The stars of progress still,
Our course do sway; In unity sublime. To broader heights we climb,
Triumphant over Time, God speeds our way!
Grand birthright of our sires, Our altars and our fires.
Keep we still pure! Our starry flag unfurled, The hope of all the
world, In peace and light impearled, God hold secure!
Life Every Voice And Sing Lyrics
Written by- James Weldon Johnson
Lift every voice and sing, till earth and
heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies
of liberty; Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies, Let it resound
loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past
has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that
the present has brought us; facing the rising sun
of our new day begun,
let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,
felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
yet with a steady beat, have not our weary
feet come to the place for which our fathers died?
We have come over a way that with
tears have been watered, We have come, treading our path
through the blood of the slaughtered, out from the gloomy past,
till now we stand at last the white gleam
of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years, God of our silent
tears, thou who hast brought us thus far on
the way; thou who hast by thy might led us
into the light, keep us forever in the path,
we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we
met thee; lest our hearts drunk with the wine of the
world, we forget thee, shadowed beneath thy hand
may we forever stand,
true to our God, true to our native land.
Objects of Kiwanis
The six permanent Objects of Kiwanis International were
approved by Kiwanis Club delegates at the 1924
International Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the
decades, they have remained unchanged.
• To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than
to the material values of life.
• To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all
Human relationships.
• To promote the adoption and the application of higher
social, business, and professional standards.
• To develop by precept and example, a more intelligent,
aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
• To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to
form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service,
and to build better communities.
• To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound
public opinion and high idealism, which make possible
the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and
goodwill.
HISTORY OF THE KIWANIS CLUB OF
SHEPHERD PARK, WASHINGTON, DC
THE KIWANIS CLUB OF SHEPHERD PARK was

Robert A. Nichotts, President of the Northeast
Kiwanis Club. The club was incorporated on
February 16, 1988. From eleven members at
the time of its charter, the club has grown to over
forty members. The club is comprised of business
and professional men and women from
throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan
area. We are known as KIWANIANS.

Throughout my 17 years of living, the
effect of childhood trauma on behavior has
interested me because of my exposure to the
many different personalities and mental
health issues in my community. I believe the
issues I encountered are a product of early
onset trauma and rooted in the unique
challenges from living in low-income
environments.
When I was ten, a family with three children
ages 4 - 8 and their single mother. I saw the
ways in which their previous living situation
affected them from an early age. My "cousin",
age 6, spent his time worrying about money,
feeling as though he had to step up and provide
for his younger brother and older sister. I vividly
remember the day he stole field trip money
from his school, to give to his mother so she could
provide for herself.
I want to study
Psychology and Biology
at an undergraduate
level at UNCP so I will
be able to assess
children's issues and
needs and aid them
with the proper care so
ti hnatot it does not feed
their adult lives.

Each day is full of memories
Of a Brother laid to rest
And every single one of them
Is filled with happiness
For you were someone Special
Always such a joy to know
And there was so much pain
When it was time to let you go
That’s why this special message
Is sent to heaven above
For the angels to take care of you
And give you all my love

Remember me when the flowers bloom
Early in the spring
Remember me on sunny days
In the fun that summer brings
Remember me in the fall
As you walk through the autumn leaves
And in the wintertime - remember me
In the stories that are told.
But most of all remember
Each day from the start
I will be forever near
For I will live within your heart.

Because My Dad was Holding My Hand
The first ti me I held my dad’s hand was 47 years ago. I had been taken to the dentist to
have a too th pulled. Being somewhat mentally unprepared for the experience, I stopped
into the de ntist office with the awestruck anticipation of an eight year-old. This
anticipatio n was quickly dispelled by an injection of Novocain.
The feeling was so intense I wanted to cry but I didn’t because the dentist made a mistake.
Leaving m e alone in the examination room after the injection. “That will take effect in a few
minutes… I will be back to pull your tooth,” she told me as she left.

21 January 2019 “Keep exploring. Keep dreaming. Keep asking
why. Don’t settle for what you know. Never stop
believing in the power of your ideas, your
imagination, your hard work to change the world.”
Two quotes from President Barack Obama
In life there are many possibilities;
Many dreams to realize,
Many desires to attain,
Many goals to be accomplished.
Your continued support allows others to realize
unattainable dreams, Reach impossible dreams,
And achieve impossible goals.
