87 / The Middle Eastern Province Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. ® TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP SINCE 1911 HEALTH & WELLNESS REPORT Rufus D. Williams Jr., Chairman Brothers of the Middle Eastern Province - Your Province Health and Wellness Committee has been working to ensure that good health practices become habit throughout the Middle Eastern Province. Numerous chapters throughout the province have been sponsoring COVID-19 themed service projects in an effort to promote the benefits of vaccines. Others have held roundtable discussions to spread information about the importance of both COVID-19 and Influenza vaccines among minority populations. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated has participated in the Good Health WINS initiative to promote COVID-19 vaccines through a variety of advertisements in the Kappa Alpha Psi Journal, email blasts, social media posts and the like. At C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference in November 2022 a formal presentation was given about the Good Health WINS initiative. This has garnered lukewarm support throughout the province though another formal presentation about the Good Health WINS initiative will be given during the 82nd Middle Eastern Province Council Meeting. Some local chapters have started health fairs and other community service projects with a health-centered focus to promote the benefits of good health and sound lifestyle choices. Others have started monthly exercise gatherings, fitness challenges and weight-loss contests to promote health and wellness goals. As with each Province Council Meeting there will be a Health Fair where routine health screenings will be performed to include Blood Pressure Checks, Fingerstick Blood Glucose Readings, Body Mass Index and other screening measures. It is always a pleasure to service the health needs of the Middle Eastern Province. Fraternally, Rufus Delro Williams, Jr., PA-C Middle Eastern Province Health and Wellness Committee
/ 88 The Middle Eastern Province Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. ® TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP SINCE 1911 HISTORY REPORT Anton L. Durrah, Chairman Brothers, I trust this report finds you well in Phi Nu Pi! There is no formal action requiring a vote from the Middle Eastern Province Body at this time. Province History Book At the time of this report, 95% of the undergraduate chapters and 83% of the alumni chapters have submitted their chapter history to be included in the province history book. Chapters without submitted history/photos will have their chapter name and charter date included. Interviews with Senior Brothers of the Province are ongoing and will be headed towards the Northern and Eastern areas of our Province. It is the hope of the committee to speak with as many Senior and 50-year Brothers in the Middle Eastern Province as possible to capture a glimpse of what they’ve seen in the province and provide a little color from their perspective on where the Bond is today as compared to the past. No History Submissions: Alpha Tau, Delta Chi, Epsilon Alpha, Mu Iota, Nu Omicron, Beckley-Southern West Virginia Alumni, Elizabeth City Alumni, Goldsboro Alumni and New Bern Alumni. Archives (Reminder) Every Chapter should have a full set of archives to include Chapter Charter, Officer’s insignia, past meeting minutes, our Constitution and Statutes, Protocol & Etiquette Manual, Chapter bylaws and Robert Rules of Order at minimum. An executive summary illustrating the programming for the fraternal year is also encouraged, as it will act as a template for prior years activities. **Hint Hint – Digital Scrapbook** Scrapbooks All chapters are encouraged to create a scrapbook of the fraternal year for record purposes. To act as a guide, chapters should use their chapter meeting minutes to ensure that all chapter programming for the current fraternal year is included. Memorial Services Request Form I encourage every Brother to complete a memorial service request form to document the actions and requests you’d like performed upon entering chapter invisible. With completion of this form, you can formally identify what should be done with your Kappa paraphernalia, artifacts and documents while providing instructions of your wishes and preferences to your family. 89 / The Middle Eastern Province Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. ® TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP SINCE 1911 LICENSE PLATE REPORT Sam Coley, Chairman Our North Carolina State issued Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated license plate has been issued now for 10 years with over 1100 standard license plates sold. Currently there are 602 license plates on the road (331 standard and 271 personalized) which gives us about a 31% retention rate on the standard plate. There is no data on the personalized plates currently. We have been attempting for some time to get an upward modification on our plate. This upward modification would do two things: 1. Offsets the “loan” from the province exchequer given to purchase existing stock so the new full design plates could be issued. 2. To infuse ongoing funds into The MEP Kappa Foundation to support scholarship. To date we have not gotten new legislation that would give the ability for these two actions to take place. Budget issues, Covid and change in representation has pushed this to a back burner. We have contacted Bro. Rep. Robert Reives for assistance. Had we had this legislation we would have a projected $6,020 over the course of this calendar year alone. Brothers, we waited years for this plate to come to fruition and now that we have it… “What we do with it?” How about let’s show our Kappa Pride while we support our foundations efforts to assist our children and communities. Please don’t scuff at a $10 raise, look at the good it will do and how much better you’ll feel contributing to a worthy cause. A tab has been placed on the MEP website directing brothers to the NCDMV special tag site. Important Reminder: Brothers that owned a plate from 0001KN-0300KN your plate was assigned to you for life as are “vanity” plates. Meaning if you ordered and received a 4- character personalized plate, no one else should be able to register that plate. These plates can be willed or if you chose, you may assign them to another brother through a DMV form. Unfortunately, most local branches do not possess the correct and necessary information about the first 300 and vanity plate life retention. This has caused undue stress and frustration to many brothers who were reassigned another plate number. If you have not renewed and want your plate back, you must call NCDMV Special Plate Unit at 919-615-8456 to inquire about reinstatement. Don’t be so Kool that you don’t acknowledge a brother when you see his plate on the road! Honk or throw the Yo!!!
/ 90 The Middle Eastern Province Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. ® TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP SINCE 1911 MUSIC REPORT Sam Coley, Chairman With the assistance of Bro. Daniel Dunstan (WF/R Alumni), Bro. Stephen Rutland (Cary Alumni), Cary Alumni and Raleigh Alumni chapters, we were able to shoot 3 “educational” videos of Kappa songs. By the time of this province council Durham Alumni should be posted as well. These songs were done as teaching tools for neophytes and “refreshers” for profytes. The videos were placed on the MEP website. Videos like these have been requested to be done of other songs and are currently being coordinated with other chapters for inclusion on the website. The goal is to get as many chapters involved in seeing themselves singing regularly at chapter meetings and other functions. As a National organization, we have faced challenges with the singing of our Kappa Hymn for years. There was a concerted effort led by the late Bro. Leonard Morton, National Music Director, and his music committee to put emphasis on singing the hymn as it was written. We face the same challenges which are blatantly evident in other Kappa Songs, the difference is many other songs are not written out. In some cases, additional verses have been added by some chapters, variations on a theme with tempo, melodies and rhythmic modifications are exhibited which could deter participation when brothers are visiting at another chapter. The Kappa Alpha Psi Songbook does not address many of the songs that are/could be sung at chapter meetings and on campuses especially during Homecomings. The “educational” videos can address the challenges that these songs present and give us a larger sense of cohesion and inclusion when traveling from city to city and campus to campus. These videos are not meant to destroy, belittle, or replace the traditions of a local chapter. When we are gathered we need strength and unity as outsiders look at those participating and those standing by. Please locate these videos on the MEP website and (re) learn them before the next round of Homecomings. The MEP Kappa Khorus will be performing for province meeting. The success of bridging and blending voices from chapters across this great province has been a challenge through the years. Finally, we are picking up momentum as brothers are inquiring about performing. As we plan for our province meeting the MEP Khorus would like to render at least two selections, one Kappa song during the undergraduate luncheon and a song of our choosing during the closed banquet. Please consider the time and commitment these brothers have sacrificed, along with the passion they share especially when bringing instruments to these events to enhance our experience.

The Reclamation Committee encourages all chapters to conduct various reclamation activities such as brotherhood luncheons/dinners, chapter cookouts, sports fellowships, and community service projects. 95 / The Middle Eastern Province Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. ® TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP SINCE 1911 ST. JUDE & MARCH OF DIMES COMMITTEE Sam Coley, Committee Chairman March of Dimes After attending weekly meetings, the campaign for March of Dimes was halted in December2023 following changes in leadership and direction of the March of Dimes organization. This campaign was supported by the MEP initially as we successfully raised the requested amount of $12,000 in a little over four weeks. This subsequent year’s campaign was met with challenges. Support for this initiative was waning as chapters continued to struggle with keeping up with two National initiatives and other chapter financial obligations amidst a pandemic and looming economic recession. There was an attempt to do a simulcasted event with all 12 provinces involved partnering with Top Golf, March of Dimes, and Kappa Alpha Psi. The Golf for Families event was mildly successful with four of the twelve provinces participating in the event. The MEP did attempt to participate with a variation of its own to make the event more appealing to the masses and inclusive of undergraduates. This event did not gain momentum and was cancelled. Kappa may resume its relationship with March of Dimes but that will be determined once the next administration is installed. St. Jude The St. Jude campaign has been going well so far this year, yet we could be doing so much better with our results. We will continue to need participation from everyone to ACHIEVE the goal of $30,000. Currently, (as of this report) there are 4 alumni chapters with a $0 balance and 2 more chapters under $100. Outside of the mandated donation, only 1 undergraduate chapter has contributed. We have been successfully utilizing Kappa Wednesdays which has placed the focus on this initiative and kept us steadily increasing our donation figure towards our goal. Communication is key and motivation especially in this climate is essential. As of this report (saying this with great reservation), the MEP is leading all other Kappa provinces in this initiative. We are fully aware of the capabilities of the Eastern and Southwestern provinces, but the Middle Eastern will set the bar for them to hurdle! The top six chapters in the Middle Eastern Province as of this report are: 1. Cary Alumni - $3283 (Number adjusted) #1 in Kappa 2. Raleigh Alumni - $1582 #4 in Kappa 3. Charlotte Alumni - $1510 #5 in Kappa 4. Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg Alumni $980 #8 in Kappa 5. Burlington Alumni - $964 #9 in Kappa 6. Gastonia/Shelby Alumni - $700 7. Wake Forest/Rolesville - $680 Honorable mention to Alpha Nu - $250 (non-mandated) Keep up the great work M.E.P.! $30,000 is ACHEIVABLE!!!
