INTRODUCTION
1. Description

Prohibition is the act or order of forbidding something, that someone is
not allowed to be or do something. To state prohibition, we can use the word
“don’t”.

2. Objectives
In the end of the lesson, the students are expected to be able to :
 Analyze the expression of prohibition and the responses
 Make sentence, dialogue, or text talking about prohibition
.

MATERIAL DESCRIPTION
1. What is Prohibition?

Do you know what prohibition is? Can you explain the definition of
prohibition? How are they constructed? How are the prohibition designed
for? If you have no idea to answer the questions above, please see the
picture below.

Task 1
1. What information is presented in the pictures?
2. What are the things described in the pictures?
3. What do you think about the aims of the pictures above?
4. When you see and read the pictures above, can you describe any

important information about what the pictures are telling about?

Prohibition is the act or order of forbidding something; that someone is
not allowed to be or do something. We always use “don’t” before the verb
to state prohibition.
Study the example below:
- Don’t open the window!
- Don’t step on grass!
Prohibition is usually made according to certain rule and based or certain
reason. So, we have to obey it. We can respond to an expression of
prohibiting by saying:
- Oh, all right, I’m sorry
- Sure
Note:
- We can also make our prohibition to be more polite by adding the word

“please”.
- We can also use “must not” to state prohibition.

2. Example of Prohibition in the dialogue
Miss Airin : Students, this is library. Don’t speak loudly here! You

Andreas must be noisy,
: We’re sorry, Miss. We can find the book we want, so we’re

discussing the book which is similar to it
Miss Airin : Okay. Please, don’t make a mess with the order of the

book!

Fahri : All right, Miss.

3. Example of Prohibition in the sign (notice)
The expression of prohibiting is also closely related to sign or notice,
where rules are printed on a wooden or metal board in form of short
phrase, imperative, or symbolic pictures.
