Design one chapter of your teaching materials for listening, speaking, reading, writing, and
vocabulary.

After this session, students should be able to:

1) Listen to English conversations and remember important points and clues.
2) Speak English with confidence in front of other people.
3) Read English texts and understand the context.
4) Write essays or stories in English with correct tenses and grammar.
5) Understand the meaning of English words and their use.

1) Listening (5 marks)
Theme – Listen and choose the correct answer
Instruction – All recordings will be played 2 times only and you will have a 1-minute interval
before the recording starts again. Listen carefully and answer the questions given by choosing
the correct picture based on the recording.

2) Speaking (5 marks)

Theme – Storytelling. This activity requires students to speak their minds in front of the class.

Instruction - Each student will draw or create a picture on the card given. After 15 minutes, the
card will be collected and shuffled. Each person will draw one card and he/she must tell a short
story based on the picture drawn on the card. Each student will have 5 minutes to tell the short
story to the class. You can use props and visual aids to make your story more compelling.

3) Reading (5 marks)

Theme – Read the short story below and complete the task given.

“Here it is,” says Rowan while looking at his watch and then at the abandoned house. It shows
a quarter past 2 a.m. He inhales and exhales vigorously. It indicates that he has been jogging
nonstop. His sweat is flowing from his forehead to the cheek and falls to his neck and into his
red leather jacket. He wears short jeans showing his shapely calf and white, Puma sports shoes.
He’s a bit bulky and muscular man hinting that exercises are his bread and butter. Despite the
chilly cold breeze, he seems not to care much and nonchalantly jogs toward the house.

How are you so sure? Asks Allan following Rowan from behind. He’s a skinny fella with a
pointed nose and wide thin lips. He wears a black long-sleeve shirt with a khaki and a pair of
blue sneakers. On his neck is a brown scarf with star shapes that are beautifully sewn. He also
holds a basket full of eggs and other nasty stuff.

Well, that nerd geek says this is where the house is supposed to be. He refers to Adam, a well-
known otaku whom he always bullies, and now he manages to get the information from one of
Adam’s friends where Adam always hangs out reading anime and manga books.

Rowan looks at Alan and then observes the house. It is an ordinary house, but it got that kind
of creepy, haunted vibe to it. With the cold, windy breeze, and dark and gloomy house, he
suddenly got goosebumps. It was a two-story terrace house with a small lawn full of bushes
and stones at the corners. At first glance, it looks like an empty house, considering it has been
abandoned by the owner for nearly 2 decades. The house is also absent a streetlight considering
it is located at the end of the neighborhood and surrounded by the forest. To reach here, you
must use your feet because of the wild trees and bushes. As he stares at the house, he notices a
faint glint and a silhouette passing by from one of its windows. He murmurs to himself. ‘Ahh,

so that nerd didn’t lie, he’s here. Tomorrow is Sunday and he knows Adam and his otaku gangs
will spend their entire night at their hideout.

Rowan whispers to Alan, let’s go. I hope you are ready to demonstrate what we have planned
this morning. Alan reluctantly scratches his cheeks and forced a fake smile. Sure, let’s not
waste any more time, says Alan nervously.

Moments later, Ben comes running toward them. He exhales excessively due to the running
and sweat forming on his forehead and neck. Can you guys wait for me? He says while huffing
his breath. Not our fault you are left behind, says Alan. Yeah, you should lose that weight, it
annoys me, says Rowan laughing maniacally. You look like a big balloon about to explode.
Add Alan with a huge smirk.

Their sarcasm hit the point considering Ben is an overweight guy that will gulp anything in his
sight. Even now, he holds a bag of chips and a Coke in his other hand. Ben is wearing a yellow
jacket, short black pants, and a pair of green sneakers. He also wears a cap that was put
backward on his head.

Are you sure you are committed to our plan? Asks Rowan. I’m not sure guys, must we do this?
I mean we have had enough with that nerd in school, can we just leave him alone and stop with
this stupid, ridiculous prank thing? Says Ben sympathetically.

Rowan’s eyes widen. He lets out a long sigh and faces Ben. Remember. It’s either him or you.
We treat you nicely because your father is filthy rich. No one in school will become friends
with you; and without us, you will be bullied by other students like that nerd. So shut the hell
up and follow us, or else you will become dead meat comes Monday. Rowan grits his teeth
tightly as if his mouth will breathe fire and consume Ben.

Alan looks at them quietly. He notices a tear forming in Ben’s eyes but he couldn’t do anything.
He remembers what Rowan said, either that nerd, Ben, or him. He is also in the same shoes as
Ben. Rowan friended him because he owns a car and they can go anywhere. It belongs to his
late father and is passed down to him. Without it, he also will become a bully victim and his
life will be miserable in school.

Deep in his heart, he knows he can stand his ground with Rowan in a 1vs1 fair fight but he did
not dare to try because Rowan is wicked and cunning and he is always surrounded by his typical
bully friends, considering that he is a captain of the school football team. In short, Rowan is
the school pride and a hotshot in school.

Lets’ go. Don’t waste any more of my time and get yourself together. Quietly, they sneak into
the front yard and jump through the gate. From afar, they could hear dogs barking. Rowan took
the first initiative to open the door. It isn’t locked. They enter the house and immediately smell
something burning. They also smell of rotten flesh. Their heads feel dizzy and spinning.

The house layout is very simple, with a single sofa in the middle and a television in the corner.
Ben notices cans of sodas laying around the sofa. He also notices untouched pizza on a table
nearby. Without further ado, he grabs a slice and gulps it in one bite. Within seconds, he took
another one and swallow it. Alan chuckles, what a glutton. At least invite us to eat together.

Rowan shushed them. Quiet! We can’t let them know we are here. Rowan whispers angrily.
Later, they move into the kitchen. It is a small area, full of pictures hanging on the wall. It got
various animals eating other animals painted on it, like a predator hunting its prey. What a
weird taste, said Alan. Ben looks around and finds an old fridge. He attempts to open the fridge
to look at what is inside and shortly he lets out a small, girly scream.

Shuuushhhhh, whispers Rowan loudly while grabbing Ben’s collar. What in the world are you
doing? Asks Rowan angrily. Ben struggles to catch up his breath and points to the fridge. Alan
checks it and he is also shocked. He leaps back into Rowan and Ben and crashes into them.
Three of them fall to the floor and a loud thud echoes throughout the house.

For God’s sake. What the hell are you two doing? Shout Rowan in a low angry tone while
grabbing both of their collars. Go look yourself in the fridge. Says Alan shakingly. Rowan
looks into the fridge and like them, he is also shocked. It is full of raw meats in the Tupperware
and worms begin to circle and devour all of it. Surrounds it was a trail of red liquids that looked
like blood. It is very thick and seems still fresh and new. Rowan let out a small sigh.

Ben comes to his sense and urgently says that it is better to leave the house, now. Alan agrees
with him and looks Rowan in the eyes. Rowan glares at them and tells them to be quiet. Maybe
one of the homeless people leaves this to scare people away. it. Rowan convinces them. Those
nerds won’t leave this because they only come here to hang out and avoid us.

Suddenly, a loud creak sound comes from the second floor. It is heard throughout the entire
house. It sounds like a large wooden box is dragged to the floor. The squeaking sound is so
loud that makes three of them speechless, their mouths wide open. They feel sudden
goosebumps on their entire body. Then, a shrieking sound comes from upstairs, it slows at first,
and eventually, it grows loud and is heard like gibberish chanting.

Rowan nudges Alan and Ben and asked them to get ready. Both Alan and Ben shake their heads
but ultimately, they give in as they also want to know what happens upstairs. Curiosity kills
the cat, and three of them make their way upstairs. Rowan leads them, Alan in the middle and
the coward Ben at the back, eyeing the front door. Don’t think about it, warns Rowan. They
step on the stairs, and halfway through, a loud shrieking sound is produced by the stairs. It is
very loud which makes them paralyzed on their track. After a short while, the sound stops and
they continue to pass the stairs slowly.

On the second floor, they notice two rooms. One is completely dark while the other room is
closed by an oak door, and some lights come from below it. Many mysterious symbols are
attached to the door, and a sign glued at the door saying “Do Not Enter” is painted in blood.
They also hear low and desperate animal grunts beyond the door. Three of them hold their
hands tightly. Sweat comes down rapidly, forming a puddle of water beneath them. Rowan
gathers his courage and opens the door. Once again, a loud shrieking sound was produced by
the door. Ben begins to mumble alien language, and Alan begins to pray and close his eyes.

As the door slowly opens, a blinding light greets them. All of them are numb. It is so bright as
if a flashbang is thrown in front of them. After a short while, they open their eyes. They feel
chilled to the bone. What they see shocks them to death.

The room is full of weird-looking mascots. The scene is very intense. They are dancing in
circles, raising their hands and feet simultaneously. At every corner, candlelights are burning
in human skulls. Some are hanging from the ceiling. On the ceiling, there is a painting, a dark
forest, a hut, an old wrinkled lady with a stem rod, smiling creepily, and a huge black sheep
beside her. Below it is a beautiful chandelier with spooky ornaments, emitting faint orange
light.

From its appearance of it, it looks like a cult doing its ritual. But, instead of a black, torn robe
with a pointy hat, they wear clowns outfits. They produce a horrific, giggling sound while
dancing. In the confusion, they notice a familiar silhouette at the center. He wears a different
outfit, he is covered in what seems to be a bunny suit outfit, from his toe to his chest, and the
bunny head was hanging from his back. In his hand, they saw a sharp-looking knife covered
with blood. Besides him, a white lamb flounder and drown in its blood.

Their first instinct tells them to run away from the scene. But they are stuck, feeling like
something hugging tight their feet to the floor. Slowly the bunny outfit guy walks toward them.
Ben screams, Alan trembles, and Rowan shakes his head. Within an inch, three of them

recognize the soaked-in-blood face. It is indeed Adam, grinning widely showing his long sharp
jaws, and his glasses were covered with blood. Rowan immediately notices all of the clowns
have the same height as them. A chill shiver comes down his spine.
Suddenly, another loud creaking sound comes from behind them and pushes them into the
middle of the room. Rowan, Alan, and Ben fall very hard, face-first to the floor. Then, another
bright light blinds them and the last things they hear are a shrieking sound and evil laughter
and the sounds of a door slamming shut behind them.
Task: What exactly happened to Rowan, Alan, and Ben? Create a suitable ending for the short
story based on your personal opinion and creativity. Your answer should be in about 100 words.

4) Writing (5 marks)
Instruction – Compose a very short story based on the theme given. Each short story must be
about 500 words.
Theme:

a) Romance
b) Horror
c) Survival
d) Fantasy
e) Sci-fi

5) Vocabulary (5 marks)
Instruction – Based on the short story, list the words you vaguely or may not understand. Give
meaning to the words and then make one complete sentence using the word that you list. You
can use any form of tenses that you already learned to make the sentence. You must list at least
10 words from the short story given.
For example:
Shriek – a high-pitched piercing cry or sound; a scream.
Sentence - I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night after a shrieking sound came from
the neighbor’s house.
