PULL TOGETHER MAKING LIFE BRILLIANT Our purpose at De Beers Group is to Make Life Brilliant in everything we do. For our communities, a brilliant life means a thriving and resilient future, lasting long after our last diamond has been recovered. This is why with every project we implement as Venetia mine, we ensure that we touch the lives of our communities, employees, and suppliers. In this edition, I am proud to share that we have – through our Social and Labour Plan and Corporate Social Responsibility – undertaken and completed several initiatives that aim to improve the livelihoods of those in our host communities and continue to play our part as responsible participants in the local economy. Together with our contracting partners and key stakeholders such as the Blouberg and Musina Local Municipalities, we have gone from positively impacting communities through our education and skills initiatives, to infrastructure and agricultural development, to helping our local medical facilities strengthen their capacity. This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to shaping a better future for our host communities. From an operational perspective, extensive work continues to be done in transitioning the open pit to an underground operation, and I am proud of the teams working tirelessly to complete this. However, one thing remains: the health and safety of our employees. At Venetia, we are committed to creating the safest possible working environment for our employees, and one in which our employees’ well-being is safeguarded. This is why I must remind you all to please continue monitoring yourself for Covid-19 symptoms. Alongside this, please vaccinate if you haven’t managed to do so yet, as it is will only better help us in rebuilding our lives and communities. Gerrie Nortje General Manager, Venetia mine GETTING VACCINATED IS SAFER THAN GETTING INFECTED THE MOST COMMON SIDE EFFECTS ARE: • Pain in the arm where you got the shot, • Feeling tired, headache, body aches, chills, and fever. Vaccines train our immune system to recognise the targeted virus and create antibodies to fight off the disease without getting the disease itself. After vaccination, the body is ready to fight the virus if it is later exposed to it, thereby preventing illness. Most people who are infected with Covid-19 develop an immune response within the first few weeks, at this point no one can say how strong and lasting that immune response is, and how it varies between different people. EMERGENCY CALL CENTRE: Venetia Mine Medical Centre on 0800 204 222 WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN GETTING A VACCINE Medical professionals will advise on whether or not you should receive the vaccine. A health worker will administer the vaccine. You may need to wait for a few minutes before leaving to ensure there are no unexpected reactions. 2 – VENETIA VOICE

VENETIA MINE HANDS OVER SLP PROJECTS TO BENEFIT LOCAL COMMUNITIES Venetia mine recently handed over three Social and Labour Plan (SLP) projects to the Musina Local Municipality. The projects included the upgrade and rehabilitation of several roads, the revamp of the Lesley Manyathela stadium and the renovation of the vehicle testing station and are aimed at benefiting the community of Musina. Approximately 115 job opportunities were created through the implementation of these SLP projects. SHOW WE CARE V ENE T I A MINE CH ANGE S LI V E S FOREVER The handover was commemorated in a small ceremony attended by Cllr Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela, Mayor of Musina Local Municipality, Fistos Mafela, Chief Whip of the Musina Local Municipality, Nathi Tshiwanammbi, Municipal Manager, Benjamin Moremi, Venetia mine’s Acting Senior Corporate Affairs Manager and David Lee, BMH Africa’s Safety Officer amongst other stakeholders. In accepting the projects, Cllr Mawela, Mayor of Musina Local Municipality said: "It brings joy to note that the work done on these projects was not done merely for compliance but to showcase that De Beers Venetia mine is committed to quality and professional work that leaves a long-lasting impact in the lives of the local community members. We know that to construct and maintain infrastructure, costs are often very high for the municipality. But with partners like Venetia mine, it becomes easier for us to access state-of-the-art infrastructure like the ones being handed over today". Through its Socio-Economic Development strategy, Venetia mine is also implementing a number of projects in the Blouberg area, which we will be handing over to the Blouberg Local Municipality in a few weeks. These will also be covered and shared in our next Venetia Voice edition. Our Social and Labour Plan is an important element of our work, and we believe that partnerships with municipalities are key to delivering meaningful and sustainable benefits in education, infrastructure, as well as economic opportunities through farming. IMPROVING PEOPLE’S LIVES WITH ACCESS TO HE ALTHCARE V ENE T I A V OICE TAK E S C ARE OF OUR COMMUNITIES’ HEALTH SHAPE THE FUTURE The long-awaited extension of the clinic which has been under construction since last year at the Musina Hospital complex is now fully operational. Along with a newly refurbished Covid-19 ward, the clinic was officially handed over to the hospital by Venetia mine in partnership with our contracting partner, ABB. In 2021, the Department of Health requested assistance to renovate and extend the facility that had been struggling to accommodate the growing number of patients who required treatment. The need to find a solution to this challenge became an ever-increasing priority, especially when the Covid-19 pandemic hit its peak in the community. The proposed solution resulted in a significant project costing R1.4 million which was made possible by ABB, as part of its corporate social investment commitment to Venetia. The renovations have since increased patient capacity and enable all activities to take place in one centralised unit. WE SAY THANK YOU! Speaking on behalf of the hospital, Acting CEO and Senior Clinical Manager, Dr Ramagoma Maduvhahafani said the extension would greatly improve the community’s access to healthcare: “Thank you to Venetia mine and ABB for the great work they have done for us. This needed extension will go a long way in addressing some of our issues. This clinic used to be very congested, but we are excited that we will now be able to run all our services simultaneously quicker.” ABB’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Cynthia Khoali said, “We recognise the role that the healthcare system plays in our communities and seek to help raise the quality of life in the communities where we operate. Many of our healthcare facilities are faced with challenges as they continue to deal with the increasing number of Covid-19 patients. Our investment in the expansion of the Musina hospital complex clinic and the refurbishment of the Covid-19 ward will assist in improving primary healthcare services and address the shortage of space at the hospital. We are very proud to have been granted this opportunity through our partnership with De Beers to make a difference and improve the lives of the Musina community.” Venetia mine’s Socio-Economic Development Manager, Livhuwani Nwachukwu said that the mine, together with its contracting partners, is continuously seeking ways to ensure it continues to play a meaningful role in mine community development. “We realise that to be productive, safe, responsible and sustainable, we must live alongside thriving communities.” 4 – VENETIA VOICE

PAVING THE FUTURE WITH ACCESS TO ICT The Anglo American South Africa (A ASA) ICT Education Project aims to ensure that all students from the schools in the project have access to the internet and a device; as well as digital literacy programmes to help them build and develop their ICT skills. This will help them to actively participate in the digital world and increase their chances of gaining access to post-school opportunities. BE PASSIONATE V ENE T I A MINE M AK E S A C CE S S TO THE WORLD POSSIBLE To fulfil this purpose, AASA embarked on various ICT launches across its Business Units and operations where: • Anglo American showcased the work that it is currently undertaking in the Education and ICT space. • The importance of Education and ICT Skills in communities was emphasised as being critical and aligning with Anglo American's purpose. • Learners, teachers, and other stakeholders were inspired and encouraged to take an interest in Education and ICT. • Anglo American’s ICT Champions were introduced in the various schools. • Anglo American also provided an update to attendees on the various components of the ICT Project, and these included: - Status of the ICT Infrastructure workstream and rollout in various schools. - Device rollout in the various schools and ECD centers. - ICT Certified Courses offered by Anglo American partners towards improving digital literacy and ICT skills De Beers and Anglo American were graced by the presence of members from Musina Local Municipality, Blouberg Local Municipality, Blouberg CEF, the acting Director General from the Department of Education, Soutpansberg North Circuit, and numerous school principals from schools in Musina (Musina High, Eric Louw, Laerskool Messina). Statement from Zaheera Soomar: “The latest intervention we have in the schools is the ICT infrastructure. It has always been an important factor for us, but I think with Covid-19 we all realised the dependency we all have on ICT, and we haven't done enough in our schools. In the past year, we've been working on our ICT component which looks at giving both learners and educators access to wifi. The second part is about ensuring that there are devices available in all schools, and the third part is related to training making sure that our learners and educators are trained to use the ICT infrastructure both for teaching and learning and that devices and connectivity features in the classes every single day. So today we have the schools present, and we have just introduced the ICT infrastructure to them as well as some virtual reality which we're going to bring into the schools. We're just all here celebrating what the future holds for our students" 109 primary schools and high schools will receive this benefit, in both Blouberg and Musina. VENETIA VOICE – 5

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION SHOW WE CARE On March 8, Venetia mine joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, a day of recognition and action that is as important now as it has ever been. It is an opportune time to reflect on the important role women play in supporting a sustainable tomorrow for all. As an organisation, one of our main priorities has been, and will continue to be, standing with women and girls – and we have committed ourselves to implementing sustainable interventions that contribute to fighting challenges such as inequality, poverty, and violence against women. To commemorate the day, Venetia mine hosted a dinner to celebrate its female employees and honour those who go beyond the call of duty. As part of the celebration, Venetia invited three local SMMEs to showcase their design work during a fashion show. N AME OF BU SINE S S: ONK GE T HILE DE SIGNS AND DEC OR AT ION ENTREPRENEUR: SFELANI TABULAWA MTHIMUNYE Sfelani joined the AWOME project in October 2019 and was recruited through door-to-door visits by Mokgadi Masowa, Awome Business Advisor. She was trained on all six modules under AWOME including Buying & Stock Control, People & Productivity, Record Keeping, Planning, Marketing and Costing and completed the training in October 2019. In addition to this, Sfelani has received continuous mentorship and coaching for her business from the business advisor, she was also trained in Digital Literacy. ENTREPRENEUR: MARTHA RAMAVHUYA NAME OF BUSINESS: MBS SEWING CENTRE Martha was mobilised in 2018 to join the AWOME programme and she was trained in 2019. Before attending the AWOME programme she didn’t know what kind of business to start to increase her income and she did not have an idea of how to keep records and the importance of marketing the business. The knowledge she gained through AWOME programme, and her previous business experience has transformed the business. She gained a lot of skills and knowledge from the programme. She is able to keep all business records, uses different platforms to market her business, launch a website, run promotions through social media, radio, word of mouth, erected new signboards and market the uniforms at schools. The business changed her life, she sees things in a way that it’s not all about herself. She is giving back to the community by giving school uniforms to school kids from poor families, she also supports some with school t-shirts. She was also supported by Hand-in-Hand where she supplied a face mask, and was referred to SEDA to apply for the grant and they supported her with an embroidery machine. She also learned the value of respecting market research, so to answer unexpected changes and adapt to them. In managing her stock, she was taught that to avoid keeping too much stock of materials that people may not want, which can also assist her with managing costs. She learned planning for her business, how to respond to competitive forces in her markets, in relation to rivals, new entrants, suppliers and substitute products. So, instead of sewing and designing normal clothes she started advising her clients to first come and check designs with her on Google, so to show her design capabilities. This way she has been able to stay ahead of her competitors. 6 – VENETIA VOICE

SHAPE THE FUTURE V ENE T I A MINE TAK E C ARE OF T HE DIGINITY OF OUR CHILDREN V ENE T I A MINE DON AT E S S CHOOL SHOE S AND S ANI TAR Y T OW EL S TO LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES Venetia mine has donated 300 pairs of new school shoes and 52 boxes of sanitary towels to the Blouberg and Musina Local Municipalities to be distributed to 24 schools in our labour sending communities. The donation is one of many corporate social investment programme initiatives undertaken by the mine. The aim is to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable people in the communities we operate and comes at a time where the need for relief has increased significantly due to Covid-19 pandemic-induced economic challenges. In accepting the donation on behalf of the schools within the Musina area, Mayor of the Musina Local Municipality, Cllr Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela said the donation could not have come at a better time as many parents from disadvantaged backgrounds had been struggling to afford essential items for their children in the run-up to the start of the new school year. "I would like to express my gratitude to Venetia mine for the wonderful support that we continuously receive. This is not the only initiative that receives the support of the mine. We appreciate the support that we are getting, especially when it comes to the education of our kids. The 150 pairs of school shoes will address some of the challenges that kids are facing in the communities," said Cllr Mawela. Musina High School Principal, Abraham Legavha thanked Venetia mine for the generous donation. “Children who lack proper school shoes have a greater risk of being exposed to injuries, especially in cold and rainy weather. Some of our learners come from very poor backgrounds. Owning a new pair of shoes will motivate them because we know that it is difficult to concentrate on schoolwork when basic necessities are not fulfilled”. This donation shows that Venetia Mine cares about the wellbeing of our children,” said Legavha. Cllr Daniel Mosena, Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning for Blouberg Local Municipality, said: “As the municipality, we appreciate this good initiative. Our goal is to work hand in hand with the De Beers Group and ensure that supporting the community is a priority. We would like to thank De Beers for the school shoes that were donated to the Blouberg Local Municipality. We will ensure that the shoes are distributed to children who come from economically depressed families during our back-to-school campaign”. Phillip Tshivhundo, Security Manager, Venetia mine said: "Our campaign focuses on providing sanitary pads and school shoes to ensure that children in our local communities stay in school. We need to take care of our communities for the mine to prosper. The children who benefit from this campaign will share their skills and make valuable contributions to the mining industry one day". SENWABARWANA VICTIM SUPPORT CENTRE RECEIVES BR AND NEW CAR TO SPEED UP GBV RELIEF To aid the fight against gender-based violence, Venetia mine in collaboration with contracting partner, Kholo Marine and Minerals, has donated a brand new Toyota Rumion 7-seater to the Senwabarwana Victim Support Centre. The centre renders victim empowerment services and the vehicle is intended to make it easier for staff members to get around, especially when helping victims of abuse. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Regan Gounder, the Senior Controls Manager from Kholo Marine and Mineral said the car should be used to help provide more immediate support to the surrounding community of Senwabarwana, to make sure that critical interventions are not missed. “As Kholo Marine Minerals, we are privileged and honoured to be part of this initiatives and many more to come in partnership with De Beers Venetia mine. What we experienced here today is nothing short of outstanding work that people are doing in the community, and from what we have heard, this vehicle is going to help the centre act faster and respond quicker to people’s needs”. In accepting the donation, Dr Masedi Mathopo, the Secretary of support centre said the vehicle they received is highly appreciated and will go a long way in assisting them in achieving their mandate. “We are extremely happy to have received this vehicle to improve our service. It will now be very easy to reach victims where they are because the police also have challenges of their own with transport. This donation will come a long way in making our work smart and efficient”. The ceremony was also graced by Cllr Daniel Mosena, Chairperson of Economic Development and Planning at the SHOW WE CARE Blouberg Local Municipality, who shared a few words of gratitude on behalf of the municipality. “We are extremely appreciative of the good initiatives done by De Beers Venetia mine in collaboration with their partners, to work with the municipality in ensuring that the support of the community is given a priority”. In closing, Itumeleng Mogale, Social Performance Specialist at Venetia mine said: “This is about our community and what we can do for our community. This partnership with Kholo Marine and Minerals has made it possible for us to do more. It has made it possible to reach places and parts, which in isolation, we would not have been able to. As the slogan of support centre says, ‘together we can!’”. 8 – VENETIA VOICE

Additionally, two local contractors, Diphala Tsa Mona and Khulisano General Trading, who are part of the Venetia Mine Supplier Development Programme have since sent three employees for bricklaying and plastering civil trades. These employees were recommended for ARPL and will then be assessed for trade certificates. It is also worth highlighting that this month, eight bricklayers within the programme will be assessed for trade certificates at InTouch TVET College in Tzaneen, and if they are successful, they will be accredited – thus making them attractive to the job market. In April last year, our Venetia mine, in partnership with contracting partner, BMH Africa, launched a skills development programme with the aim to develop skills in the construction industry and ultimately enhance the local skills base. PULL TOGETHER M A STER DRILLING DON ATE CALCUL ATORS TO EASE THE PRESSURE In 2021, one of Venetia mine’s contractors, Master Drilling, reached out towards contributing to an initiative set to benefit our communities. Master Drilling saw an opportunity to make a significant resource intervention ahead of exam season. It was decided that an investigation be conducted regarding some of the most pressing needs of the learners, more specifically Grade 12 learners. It became quite apparent that there is a shortage of scientific calculators in both Blouberg and Musina high schools for those who do mathematics and science. Through Master Drilling’s contribution of R43 000, a total of 140 scientific calculators was secured and distributed evenly amongst four schools: Thokampe Secondary School, Alldays High School, Musina High School, and Renaissance Secondary School. Statement from Zodwa Malinga (Master Drilling): “You know, you look at these learners from some of the schools in our local communities and realise how desperately you want to do something about the circumstances they are exposed to. Although these calculators may not be a lot, Master Drilling is quite thrilled to take on such an initiative, especially as a black female-owned company that seeks to empower others.” V ENE T I A MINE M AK E S LE ARNING POSSIBLE FOR OUR YOUTH These schools are currently receiving support from De Beers Venetia mine through the Anglo American South Africa education programme in the form of direct learner support, teacher capacity development, and infrastructure renovation and refurbishment. The additional support received from Master Drilling will further assist the learners in these schools to maximise their potential. 10 – VENETIA VOICE
