My Nostalgic Memories

The GEMS Parent Forum sets up stalls for fun games and activities. There are
samples and giveaways for students, parents and teachers alike. The whole
quadrangle is abuzz with activity. You can see henna tents arranged in corners,
the local Majlis displayed beautifully, falcons on the arms of their trainers,
groups of children taking photographs to keep all the memories alive and
visitors applauding the efforts of the school. There is such a marvelous display
of UAE culture, values and heritage and honestly the excitement is palpable.
This year, things are different. We are celebrating remotely and although I am
grateful for e-learning and the ease of it I can’t help but reminisce about the
times spent with my friends at school. As the calendar year draws to an end, I
pray that we celebrate National Day physically at our school, Gems WSA, with
the same energy and high spirits as we always do.

MORAL EDUCATION
THEME
Some positive quotes:
1) "The creative adult is the child who survived."
2) "The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human
soul."
3) "Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment.
What is creativity?
Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality.
Creativity is characterized by the ability to perceive the world in
new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between
seemingly unrelated phenomena, and to generate solutions.
Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing.
Maybe it’s not in the areas typically associated with being creative,
but we all possess the ability to create; to make something new
and valuable. Being creative is more than just producing that clever,
new something. Creativity is a vitally important facet to human
development. creativity is found in far more places than on canvas,
within the pages of a book or across the keys of a piano. Creativity
drives us to not only create but to innovate. Creativity is about
doing meaningful and fulfilling activities. This goes far beyond
traditional “creative” activities, such as painting or
writing. Creativity can be deployed anywhere.
Based on the previous definition, creativity invokes both the artistic
and the analytical. It takes creativity to not only create music but to
develop the technology and device to play it. Can we conclude that
anyone, anywhere can be creative?
SOCIAL CONFLICTS
This Week's Topic: Racial Injustice
For almost centuries, there has been an
obsession with fairness and the prejudice
against the dark. The skin-lightening market
in Asia-Pacific alone, is valued at over $13
billion! Repeatedly, television screens,
magazines, and even Facebook feeds are
bombarded with ads, telling us that if we're
not fair-skinned, we’re basically going to
have an unsuccessful life.
Just recently, the death of George Floyd,
resulted in the ongoing series of protests and
civil unrest, named 'Black Lives Matter', which
begin in the city of Minneapolis. It is a
decentralized political and social movement
against racially motivated violence against
black people.
We should all join hands, to stop this racial
injustice. Why do we have to consider one
race to be superior to the other?
FUN FACTS
• Animals that hibernate store a
reserve supply of fat on their body.
They sleep through the cold winter,
living on the fat stored up in the
body.
• The Dolphins sleep with one eye
open.
• To make half kilogram of honey,
bees must collect nectar from 2
million flowers.
• Around 1,80,000 tones of water
goes over the Niagra Falls each
minute
• The Western Magpie, a bird
of Australia and New
Zealand, uses pieces of
metal such as wire and tin to
make nests
• A snail is an animal that
is found in water and on
land. It can sleep for 3 years.

BOOK REVIEW
There May be a Castle is, least to say, a masterpiece. A
remarkable story about love, loss and the power of
imagination, from an award-winning, celebrated writer
for children. It follows the story of a young boy named
Mouse. He is a 10-year-old boy who is bullied for how
small he is, causing him to become rather quiet and
reserved. In the beginning of the story, he travelled with
his older sister and mother on a dark December night to
visit his relatives to celebrate Christmas. Instead of
arriving as he was supposed to, a terrible accident
happened. The car had slid off the icy road and crashed!
He wakes up in a strange land and
must follow the quest of finding
and defeating
a strange villain. I recommend this
book to those
who love plot twists and
mystery! Full of adventure, it
is suitable for all ages!
(Note: Older kids may be
able to understand the ending a
bit better.)
MOVIE REVIEW
Siblings Kate and Teddy
Pierce hatch a scheme to
capture Santa Claus on
Christmas Eve. When the
plan goes awry, the kids join
forces with a somewhat jolly
Saint Nick and his loyal elves
to save the holiday before
it's too late! The plot follows
two children, Kate and
Teddy, who notice Santa
Claus in their home and
jump into his sleigh with
his reindeer; however, the
sleigh eventually
malfunctions and crashes,
and the Christmas presents
are lost.
As Christmas morning approaches, it is up to
the children and Santa to save Christmas by
correctly delivering all presents. The Christmas
Chronicles received mixed reviews from critics.
A sequel titled The Christmas Chronicles 2 , with much
of the original cast returning, will be released on
November 25, 2020(Go check it out!)
MUSIC OF THE WEEK
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2DXt11SMNI
Memories by Maroon 5
It was premiered on October 8, 2020 and many
people found it sad because when you played it, it
reminded you of people you lost. The theme and
thoughtfulness of “Memories” makes it pack quite
a respectable punch. This is not the flashiest
Maroon 5 record, but it certainly eclipses some of
the sketchier singles that arrived in advance
of Red Pill Blues in 2016-17. There isn’t a great
deal of depth when it comes to the songwriting
but again, Adam Levine and company make a
notable statement, and we should all embrace it.

You think you are cool coz you are a bully,
But you are not cool, coz you bullied Mr. Billy.
The more you bully me
The worse you will be.
Lots of people look at you,
They would look at you with fear,
They will run away with their face turned blue
This is the last time this I would hear.
You're not just a bully, but a coward,
Who's jealous of people like me.
Am I really as a bad as you make me feel,
Or the person who you want to be.
I know I can talk to my teachers,
My parents, family and friends
To tell them how you make me feel.
Please let this bullying end.
By: Amogh Kottachery Shenoy 7B1

Bullies, hear me out,
I don't want to scream, cry and shout,
Don't go say "You have a big snout,"
You guys are mean, and I have no doubt.
Do you even have a heart,
When you say that it's bad to be smart.
If you can't feel what we feel,
Your feelings might not be real.
"We're smarter than you", I hear you say
When all you do is chat and play
But, sometimes bullies might feel sad too,
They might also be feeling blue.
So that's why we have to be kind to all,
And not compare the big with the small.
I now changed, became wiser and smarter, not like you,
Remember, I was a victim too.

The bully won't win
You are the bully who says I'm fat
I am the victim who is bored of that
You are the bully that ruins my day
I am the victim and that’s not ok
You are the bully who gets in my head
I am the victim who wishes I was dead
You are the bully who gets under my skin
I am the victim and I'm going to win!

You feel like soap dissolving in water
Your friends don’t even want to bother
The words others say behind your back
Bullies are heavier than your bag pack.
They say that you’re pretty ugly
Can’t just find the right key
The world is like a stage
If you can’t confront them now you’ll be living in a cage!
It’s time for you to stand up for yourself
Do everything you can to be at the top of the shelf
Don’t you want to be a positive sky
Or a sad moon always ending up with a sigh.
You are braver than you think
Whatever happens for sure it’s worth something
Would you want to always be a victim?
If you’re reading this, I’m changing the system.
I’m sick and tired of hesitating By: Bernice 7G2
Just move on instead of waiting
I will confront you now or then
Just give me some time you won’t do it again.
Eunoia
I am the voice of those afraid to speak,
Those of us people call weak,
Those you ridicule every day,
The ones who have nothing to say
I know I’m not the only one
My time has shone
I will speak up to them today
And I will say what I have to say
I’m done playing this game
I’m not yours to claim
You bully me ever day
When I walk past you in the hallway
It’s time to stop
Make the act drop
By: Devni 7G2

We know bullying is pretty bad
It makes the world sad
Bully is an angry soul
It leaves our heart with a hole
People's heart are beaten and broken,
Bruised and shattered – feeling defeated!
Bullying is not something to be laughed at
Being called skinny or fat
Don’t let them treat you with disrespect!
Be brave as a tiger – I am sure you are perfect!
Tick, Tock! I count on my clock for bullying to stop.
Even the clock is waiting, let's make bully flop!
By: Thayna 7G1

No one is short, no one is black
Please stop saying everyone fat
There is not a single reason
Let's hold and work on our grievance
Stop calling each other by bad names
Or else it would be such a shame
Bullying is no longer going to stay
We have to discourage it day by day
I have something very important to tell
Anti-bullying will keep everyone well
We share
And we care
By: Momina 7G1
Eunoia
Every day we live our lives
Trying to please others lies
We silently hide our pain and sorrows
While their words are creeping from the shadows
Bullying is not fun or cool
It's just hurtful and cruel
Sometimes causing pain and tears
We have to stop all these declares
But I'm now ready to taste
Where girls can put their heads up high
While wearing their favourite shirt without a sigh.
