A Message from the Chairperson
We are quite pleased to share glorious 17 years success
story of the United Nepal Publication Pvt. Ltd. With you
all. It was established in the year of 2059 BS with the
motto of "journey to excellence...".
As expected, we have had continuous best wishes, love
and cooperation from schools, colleges, professionals,
authors, scholars, and all well-wishers over these years.
As a result, we have proved to be one of the leading publishing houses so far
as school level textbooks are concerned.
We have been successful to produce and distribute the textbooks according
to market demand across the country with the teamwork of professional
staff, experienced authors, hardworking marketing officers, other dedicated
supporting staff, paper suppliers, printers and a very efficient Production

Salient Features of Speedy Maths and Maths in Action
Textual Presentations
• Simple and easily understandable language
• Use of appropriate mathematical terminologies
as per the age group of learners
• Well-planned contents as per the objectives
* Knowledge based contents
* Understanding based contents
* Skill based contents
* Higher ability based contents
Demonstrations
• Concrete demonstration (using semi-concrete pictures) for conceptual learning as
well as for understanding of mathematical rules especially in the pre-primary and
early primary level
• Diagrammatic demonstrations for conceptual learning as well as for understanding
of problem solving activities
• Experimental demonstrations for verification of mathematical rules, formulae,
relations, etc.
Illustrations
• Worked-out examples of each and every lesson are designed in the sequence of
simple to complex;
• Worked-out examples completely cover the necessary learning objectives
(knowledge, understanding, skill and higher ability);
• In each and every lesson, worked out examples are reflective to the problems in the
respective exercise;
• Different types of worked out examples represent the various categories of problems
that can be possible to make in the corresponding lesson;
• Almost all illustrations are designed in such a way that each of them may play an
important role as the ‘textual tutor’.
Problem Solving
• In pre-primary level almost all of the problem solving activities are designed by
using semi-concrete objects throughout the series (fundamental need as per child
psychology);
• In pre-primary and primary levels some of the problem solving tasks are given as
game, puzzles and drawing activities so that the young learners can enjoy maths as
fun;
• In pre-primary and primary levels, mental speed, number speed, etc. are given to
develop mental mathematical skill along with manual mathematics;
• In Section A of some of the exercises in some lessons (4 to 8), ‘Investigation’ tasks
are given to explore the mystery of mathematics and it can motivate the learners in
learning mathematics;
• In late primary (4 and 5) and lower secondary level, ‘class work evaluations’ are
given for the immediate diagnostic evaluation;
• In late primary and lower secondary level ‘looking back’ evaluation is given in the
beginning of each lesson to judge the placement evaluation;
• The ‘practice time’ evaluation given in grades 1 to 3 helps the learner to sum up the
varieties of mathematical contents at a time;
• Objective types of questions are given in these grades to evaluate the IQ level of the
learners in the corresponding package of lessons
• Problems given in ‘Section A’ in the grades 4 to 8 evaluate the knowledge based
objectives which of course is the fusion of mental and manual mathematics.
Besides, this section develops the computational skills of the learner in fundamental
mathematical operations;
• ‘Section B’ problems in the grades 4 to 8 evaluate the integration of overall learning
objectives (K + U + S + HA);
• ‘General Section’ problems in the grades 9 and 10 evaluate the knowledge,
understanding and skill based objectives, whereas ‘Creative Section’ evaluates the
learning achievements of the skill and higher ability-based objectives;
• In ‘Section B’ problems (4 to 8) and ‘Creative Section’ problems (9 & 10), each type
of direct problem guides the indirect problem given just below;
• The problems in the most of the exercises in different lessons are designed in such
a way that they help in learning integration among many different contents under
the same curriculum
• The variables and the data (e.g. cost of different items, distacnes between the
places, etc.) given in the problems are exactly the same or very close to the real life
situations.
Design
• Appropriate size and style of fonts as per the age groups of learners
• Enough spaces for writing in the book exercises
• The pictorial presentations of understanding rules, formulae, relations and
mathematical facts in most of the lessons of pre-primary and primary level series
make the books more learner-centred and learner-friendly.
• The colurful books in the series are really praiseworthy.
Based on the Contemporary Pedagogy
The series are based on the constructivism pedagogy. So, they are constructivist materials
for the constructivist teachers inside the constructivisit classrooms.
a) Rather than receiving, learners are able to construct knowledge and meaning
themselves in each and every lesson because
(i) The textual and conceptual presentations of lessons of each text book of the
series are learner- centred.
Just by reading the texts or by following the instructions of activities given in
the lesson, the learners are able to build knowledge and understanding of the
concerned contents themselves
(ii) The conceptual learning sequences in each lesson are developed as per the
constructive teaching/learning process: Concrete – Semi-concrete – Abstract

Read Me, an English series, has tried to balance between the structural and the communicative
approaches with greater emphasis on the functional aspect of the English language. Our
focus has been on learner-centric approach. A rigorous stress has been put to enrich phonics,
vocabulary, language structure, and function in totality. We have consciously integrated
all language learning methods to develop competency on four language skills: listening,
speaking, reading and writing. The series has dual aims like to consolidate the language
skills of the students have completed in the earlier class of language learning and to expand
their linguistic foundation. Thus, the learners are exposed to new vocabulary and language
structures as they grow completing earlier stages. Comprehension texts and exercises range
from exercises for objective, factual comprehension to inferential and understanding for
evaluation. Similarly, equal stress is given to uplift and update the child’s attitude and
moral standard. In higher levels exercises on vocabulary, language practice, study notes,
communicative functions, group work and pair work, project work, composition and guided
writing, etc. have been included after systematic study of Nepali classrooms, linguistic
expertise of teachers and cultural aspects in totality. We have mentioned Nepalese context
and literature to localize language learning and world literary texts to familiarize with
international literature and English language usages. All works of literature exploited for
language learning are for pleasure as well. These masterpieces can be used to think and
explore to relate thematically suitable language learning.

The 'Grammar in Context' marks a new beginning in communicative-grammar teaching and
serves as a blend of both conventional and modern techniques of English teaching to the
students other than native. The grammar units of the books are context-based: they involve
illustrated situations, and pieces of conversation, or alternative texts. The exercises that
generally come with monotony are unexpectedly replenished with pictures to keep students
enthused for the activity. The grammar concept of every unit has been sufficiently and
meaningfully simplified. Unlike any grammar books that ignore the other essentials not
directly concerned with grammar teaching, the 'Grammar in Context' integrates all other
components –sound structures, speaking and writing activities, etc. Almost every essential
has been acknowledged to make language learning a successful activity: the Pronunciation
Guide appears at the bottom of almost every page; the Speaking Units come with situational
activities for role-plays; the Sound Units deal with the basics of English phonetics; the
Creative Writing Units unravel simple-yet-effective ways to writing; and the Comprehension
Units come with general exercises to test learners' accuracy of comprehension.

Colours in Action
Using crayon colours in pre-primary levels and colour pencils in primary levels are essential
to make a hand and eye balance effectively. In the series, we have tried to do the same with
necessary consultation with child colour experts. The entire stroke system and outlines are
designed cautiously. As a result the child feels the joy of achieving success playfully. Shapes
of objects are selected and graded in such a way that they are familiar and suitable to the
children as per their age group.
