HAPPY NEW YEAR! OFFICER TEAM

Sisters, KATE SURECK
President
Happy 2019! Where did 2018 go?! I hope your holidays were filled
with lots of love and laughter. New Year’s Day is one of my favorite KELSIE HINDERS
days of the year. It’s a time to put away the old, bring out the new, 1st VP/Programming

and a wonderful time of reflection and hope for the year ahead. DIANA RUSCHHAUPT
The Christmas decorations have been put away and I’ve already Co-2nd VP/Fundraising
started organizing and simplifying my home in preparation of
NATALIE BUCK
spring cleaning. Co-2nd VP/Fundraising

There’s something so fulfilling to me about organizing, cleaning, BARB KINZER
and minimizing. With that comes prioritizing intentions for the Secretary
coming year as well. What is important? Where do I want to spend
my time and energy? What brings me joy? I hope you will consider ANDREA STRAPULOS
these questions as well and when you answer, I hope AOII fondly Treasurer

comes to your mind. RACHEL BOISON
Philanthropy/Arthritis Liaison
The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to rededicate
yourself to our Fraternity and its ideals. I hope you will consider JENNI GRAINGER
attending Founders’ Day as well as our many other social and Panhellenic Voting Delegate
sisterhood events. Meeting and forging friendships with sisters
across states and generations is what makes the Indianapolis ANNE WILMES
Panhellenic Non-Voting Delegate
Alumnae Chapter so special.  Please consider becoming a
dues-paying member to help offset operating costs, contribute MANDY WAKEFIELD
Membership Education
towards the Ruby Fund, and provide collegiate sisters with
scholarship opportunities. Your continued dedication to our SHARON BOISON
organization is what will ensure AOII’s legacy will continue for Membership/MIF Chair

years to come. OPEN

FALL IAP LUNCHEON

Nearly 100 people attended the Indianapolis Alumnae Panhellenic’s annual Fall Luncheon on November 8,
2018, at The Ritz Charles in Carmel.  IAP 1st Vice President, Jennifer Grainger announced the 2018-2019
scholarship award winners. Sarah Wheeler, Alpha Chi Omega, attending Purdue University and Ria Rebein,
Alpha Gamma Delta, attending Indiana University each received a $2,000 scholarship.

The guest speaker for the luncheon was Kaye Schendel, Past National President of Sigma Sigma Sigma.

President of the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research.  Kaye’s talk was entitled: The Power of
Volunteering: from Egoism to Altruism

JINGLE BELL RUN

Jingle Bell Run was COLD but a beautiful day! Held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, IAC is always happy to work
with Arthritis Foundation Indiana and raise awareness for our philanthropy.

LUNCH & CARMEL CHRISTKINDLMARKET

In December, sisters met for lunch at Matt the Miller’s in Carmel where we were able to enjoy some great
food and sisterhood. After lunch we walked over the Chriskindlmarket for some shopping and warm drinks

AYRES TEA ROOM Check out some recipes
from their classic menu!
For the second year, sisters shared lunch at the Ayres Tea Room.
The original Tea Room opened in 1905 on the 5th floor of the L.S.
Ayres department store. For 85 years, it was the place to take
children to learn proper manners, for families to gather in
celebration of special events, and for women to see the current
fashions as shown in “That Ayres Look” style shows. It became very
dear to the community, but at a low point in the vitality of
downtown, the May Company closed it in 1990. After several years
of sold-out crowds at special holiday-only Tea Room lunches in
the Indiana State Museum’s old building, public interest caused
the museum to add a recreation of the Tea Room to its plans for
its new building. It opened with the rest of the new building in
May of 2002.

TAX QUESTION:

Are donations to alumnae chapters tax deductible?

ANSWER:

Donations made directly to the Fraternity, Properties, Chapters, Corporations and/or AC's are not
tax deductible as they are exempt from tax under Code section 501(c)(7) as member
organizations. Individuals cannot get a deduction for a charitable contribution to a member
organization, only to an organization exempt from tax under 501(c)(3) of Internal Revenue Code,
which is typically Foundations such as the AOII Foundation!
