Instruction Guide for Subset Finishing with PlanetPress®

This instruction guide describes how to use a Subset Finishing PPD file to specify subset

The Subset Finishing PPD file is intended only for PostScript® printing using the imagePRESS

In PlanetPress Design, specify the settings below in the Advanced Paper Handling tab of the
Page Properties dialog box.

Page-Level Settings
・ Media Selection
There are two ways to select media (paper), a media source (tray), or media attributes.
ƒ To select a media source (tray), use the InputSlot command, and then select a tray.
ƒ To select a media attribute, use either or a combination of the PaperType and
PageSize commands, and then select the paper type and size.
・ Duplex
Duplex (double-sided) is set by using the Duplex command and selecting the
orientation (long edge or short edge) of your document.
・ Insert Paper
Inserting paper from the optional Insertion Unit is set by using the InputSlot command,
and then selecting the Insertion Unit’s tray number. The optional Insertion Unit is
required.

Subset Finishing Settings

1. To enable subset finishing, the “Beginning Of Subset” command must be input at the
beginning of the subset. There is no end to the subset command. The next appearance of
“Beginning of Subset” indicates the end of the previous subset.

2. Specify the finishing settings for the subset.
・ Staple
Use the Staple command, and then select the type (corner or double staple) and the
location of where to staple your document. The optional Finisher or Saddle Finisher
is required.

Notes and Known Limitations

・ Any setting applied to a subset or page is applied to the next subset or page, unless the setting
is changed on the next subset or page.

・ Subset finishing commands must be specified at the beginning of the first page of the subset.
Any setting that is set after the first page of a subset is applied to the next subset.

・ Subset finishing settings are effective only if the number of copies for a print job is set to ‘1’.
If a print job is set to print more than one copy of your print job, any subset finishing settings
for the print job are ignored by the print controller.

・ The following settings are not supported for subset finishing:

− Saddle stitch booklet
− Perfect bind booklet
− V-fold (2-folds)
− C-fold
− Zigzag-fold (Concertina-fold)
・ Media selection by Media Weight or Media Color is not supported.
・ Media selection by unique name for a custom media is not supported by default. Use the
Custom Paper Information Converter to include custom media information in the PPD file.
Refer to the Custom Paper Information Converter User’s Guide for more details.
・ An accessory unit for finishing is required for subset finishing.
