Foreword

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Alhamdullilah, the KL-Jakarta-Dubai Islamic Fashion Ftival is back bier and stron-
ger for the sond time in Jakarta. Since the launch of IFF, it has always been my aim,
with the kind partnership of METRO Indonia, to increase and enhance awaren
of Islamic Fashion on a global stage. The prence of Dubai in IFF last year shows that
we are more serious than ever in bringing Islamic Fashion digners into the mainstream ile setting the standards of beauty in
wearing a Muslim dign. With such suort, IFF is one step closer in tablishing Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Dubai as the Islamic
fashion capitals of the world. Jakarta has been a major steing stone for IFF. Last year’s IFF debut saw the attendance of some of the
most influential sociy luminari and fashion digners from around the region. This year, the benchmark of Islamic Fashion is
raised with the participation of extraordinary digners from Malaysia and Indonia o are no strangers to fashion lovers outside
of their rpeive countri. The digners, with their interpration of incorporating style in Muslim attire, are fulfilling the pos-
sibiliti of boming key layers in the international fashion scene.

The growing Islamic Fashion industry also shows that Muslim women and men are increasingly trend
savvy and fashionable. All over the Muslim world, digners are infusing traditional styl with modern sen-
sibility. Burqas and colourful over-garments by tablished digners are being labelled as coved ‘digner
items’. International fashion hous are incorporating Muslim-Inspired digns into their yearly colleions.
It is indeed heartening to see that IFF is already laying a major role as part of that growing henomenon.
It is with a hopeful heart that I prent to you KL-Jakarta-Dubai Islamic Fashion Ftival 2008. My sincere
ariation to our Jakarta partners, METRO Indonia for their utmost suort of IFF and their contribu-

tion towards making Islamic Fashion a force to be rkoned with.
Thank you.

Yang Mulia Dato’ Raja Rezza Shah

Chairman and Founder of the Kl-Jakarta-Dubai Islamic Fashion Ftival 2008.

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

For the sond year running, Jakarta is proud to be the venue for KL-Jakarta-Dubai Islamic Fash-
ion Ftival 2008. With the inclusion of Dubai into the IFF family this year, not only did we
strengthened the link bween our region and the Middle East but we are also on track in our
miion of ascertaining that Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Dubai are being rognized globally as
Islamic fashion hubs.
International fashion has that distinct ability to blur the boundari of race, creed and geography.
Under one roof, the goal of international buyers, railers, digners, media and fashion lovers is to focus mainly on the dails, the
fabric and the uniquen of each dign.
Islamic Fashion is steadily accomplishing a similar objeive. Muslim and Non-Muslim Digners are creating ready-to-wear with
an international flavour without targing spific cultural group. Contemporary characteristics incorporated into modt options
are showing up on the runways, pially noticeable during our last few succful events, proving that dring modtly do not
mean dring dowdily.

Calvin Thoo Theme: Boming a Diva

Calvin Thoo’s colleion, titled “Boming a Diva”, explor his interpration of the trendy, fashion forward Muslimah
o lac high importance on distinctive styl. Inspired by his experience with real-life divas, Thoo incorporat

into his colleion and highlights dailing of exquisite, shimmery beads, sequins and prious ston to refle the
high-end liftyle of Divas today.

Samuel Wattimena Theme: It is LOVE

Dcription: Using the Makasar silk, Samuel Wattimena created a colleion of semi formal outfit for this year Islamic
Fashion Ftival in Jakarta.

With that in mind, IFF has endeavoured to provide an onomically viable latform for digners to show-
case their creations to a global mark ready for an exciting infusion of new Islamic Fashion talents through
venu like Jakarta. 2008 is an pially exciting year for Indonia as we welcome tourists to our country
in conjunction with Visit Indonia Year 2008. I sincerely hope that with the inclusion of IFF as part of our
cultural landscape, visitors to the country will not only enjoy the warmth and hospitality of its people but also

enjoy being part of an important landmark in the history of fashion.
I would like to expr my heartfelt gratitude to all our friends and well-wishers as we are thankful and

humbled, as always for your warm suort.

Thank you.
