Technology
The use of the term "technology" has changed significantly over the last 200 years.
Before the 20th century, the term was uncommon in English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology ).
The technology affect us but help us to.Technology is the present world. It affects people’s daily
lives. Whether it inspires somebody to be the master at video games or makes somebody a
computer hacker. It has changed the generation of teenagers/young adults rapidly. It has made
the generation more greedy, ignorant, and lazy. But it help us, the Cell phones, computers,
laptops, smart boards, GPS systems, etc. all are technology passed. It helps us daily, by
providing us with information, or even fun that we wouldn't necessarily get out of a book (a book
is also a technology, but good point) as quickly as we'd type it into Google
(www.popsci.com/technology.)
Online calendars help coordinate everyone’s schedules and can be accessed by a
variety of devices. Google Calendar is a great one to try. Teachers are able to use class
websites or apps to keep parents updated about school (www.wired.co.uk/topic/technology).Get
homework help or locate answers to difficult questions. It is easy to check the weather and stay
updated on severe or threatening situations. Keeping your family safe has never been easier.
Cell phones allow families to text updates on activities, practices, and even grocery lists. So
technology is bad and good at the same time, it make us connected with our parents and give
us information, but it shocked us with games, apps, talking with friends...

Movie Review: Coraline and the Magic Door
Coraline is an 11 year-old-girl who is feisty, curious, and adventurous. She and
her parents have just moved from Michigan to Oregon. Missing her friends and finding
her parents to be distracted by their work, Coraline tries to find some excitement in her
new environment. Coraline seriously doubts that her new home can provide anything
truly intriguing to her, but it does; she uncovers a secret door in the house. Walking
through the door and then venturing through an eerie passageway, she discovers an
alternate version of her life and existence.Parents need to know that Coraline will scare
young kids. Slightly less creepy than the book on which it was based, the movie is still
quite dark, and the "other" world that Coraline discovers turns into a frightening,
dangerous place where she could very well die…
Despite these warnings, Coraline decides to unlock the door when she is home
by herself. This time, she finds the brick wall behind the door is gone. In its place is a
long hallway that leads to a flat identical to her own but inhabited by the "Other Mother"
and "Other Father". They seem to look like her parents, except that in place of eyes,
they have shiny black buttons. The Other Mother, however, is notably taller and thinner
than her real mother. Her black hair seems to move by itself, her skin is paper-white,
and her nails are long and red. In this “Other World”, Coraline finds everything to be
more interesting than in her world: the Other Mother cooks food that she actually
Pg4
enjoys, both of her Other Parents pay more attention to her, her toy box is filled with
animate toys that can move and fly, the Other Miss Spink and Miss Forcible perform a
never-ending act in their flat, and the Other Mr. Bobo performs a rat circus. She even
finds that the feral black cat that wanders around the house in the real world can talk.
After the Other Mother releases Coraline from the mirror, Coraline proposes a
game: if she can find the ghost children's souls and her parents, then she, her parents,
and the ghost children may go free. If she loses, then Coraline will let the Other Mother
sew the buttons into her eyes and become a loving daughter to her. But at the end,
Coraline find the children’s eyes.
I think this movie is pretty scaring but I love it, it is so emotional, is a suspense movie
and I love suspense movies so I liked it.

My true story
On spring break I went to Chicago for 3 days with my mom, a friend from Costa
Rica and my dog. We had to be in a car 8 hours in a car with my dog! That has
so annoying but so funny at the same time. When we were finally there we
walked around the city and we went to the biggest building of USA and to the
“famous” place of pizza in Chicago. The second day we walked around the city
too and I don't remember very well, and we bought some caramel popcorn, that
was really good. And the last day we just stay at at the hotel. But a bad thing is
that when I was in Chicago my favorite singer was in there and I did not see him.
I was so mad at myself.

Humor
Last year I was in the mountain with all 6th grade because we had an excursion
and we did activities, we played with water and funny things. At the lunch time I
was eating a salad because we didn’t have a microwave, my friend and I were
eating in a trunk of a fallen tree, and my friend told me “look that big dog is
coming” and I was so scared to big dogs, so I wet scared and I felt with my friend
and all the salad felt in my face, too. My friend was laughing so hard and the dog
was eating my salad and licking my face, which was nasty, weird and funny at
the same time.

My mom’s life
My mom works at P&G, a big product company, she is a Plant Finance Manager and
she has 10 years of working there, and that's the reason why I’m here, in KC. She will turn 37
years old on June 12th. When she is not working, she enjoys her time running, going to the
gym, swimming and driving the bike. Go to the gym, she swim, and she drives the bike. I don't
know where my mom take that energy to do all of that kind of things. Also she run marathons
and do triathlons. My mom worked so hard for many years to get the role she currently has to
take me to de USA to have a better education and learn more English. She go to work at
7:40am and she come in the afternoon at 5:30pm. She is always working, taking care of me or
doing sports. She know how to cook very well and she is always supporting myself and never let
me down, she is a very good mom and it is obviously that she love me. Well and her name is
Andrea Cervantes, and she have a sister and 3 brothers. We miss them a lot.

My summer options probably will be go to Costa Rica 2 for months, go to the
beach with my friends and my cousins, do a lot of sleepovers with my best friend and
with my cousins. Go to the mountains, go to Turrubares (where my grandmother lives)
with my aunt and my cousin Jimena. Hang out with my friends, go to the movies, do
stupid things like always, go to gymnastics with my best friend and try to be better than
the other one but at the end we always be the same of good in gymnastics. I am going
to my sister’s Birthday party, she will torn 4 years old in June 13th. And my dad wants
to do a bag party with all my friends in the pool, with my friend, cousins, my family and
my neighbors, so I am so excited. But if I do not go to Costa Rica, I will probably stay at
home all day taking with my friends and my sisters. But of course I am going to Costa
Rica. And I am going to celebrate my birthday in Costa Rica ( That was 3 month ago but
I do not really care) with my friend and I will eat a lot of pizza, cheeseburgers, ice
cream… and be fat with my friends, doing crazy things all over the street and in all the
malls in Costa Rica. And obviously all the time I will talk with my friends from here,
because I am going to miss them to. And I want to go to my friend’s house and they can
come to my dad’s house and have a lot of fun. Spend time with my little sister, Emma
and Isabella. Spend time with my grandfather and my grandmother. And probably come
1 week before school starts.

Strange but True
In Japan, crooked teeth are considered cute and attractive. Most people think straight teeth look
the best, but in Japan, they think crooked teeth look the best. (JapanToday) In Japan, fangs are cool! A
famous Japanese singer, Tomomi Itano, has one tooth like a fang and her fans want to look like her.
Special dental clinics have opened all over Japan to provide people with crooked smiles. There
are even advertisements on television advertising how they can make your teeth crooked for a price.
Many Japanese people believe crooked teeth are a sense of beauty unique to the Japanese.
(JapanToday)
Some Japanese people permanently make their teeth crooked and some only do it temporarily.
Japanese women in their teens and twenties, even some middle school and high school Japanese girls
are making their teeth crooked because they think they will look cuter and be more popular.
Dental Salon Plasir, located in Tokyo’s ritzy Ginza district, is one such clinic offering a "tsuke-yaeba"
procedure, and they’ve even made this informative commercial so you can see what the process of
paying someone to wreck your teeth is like.
"Yaeba" literally means “multilayered” or “double” tooth, and describes the fanged look achieved when
molars crowd the canines and push them forward. It’s not a serious dental deformity, but it’s certainly
enough to get you picked on at school in some countries.
Thanks to the popularity of pop-idol group AKB48′s Tomomi Itano and other celebrities sporting a pair of
rogue chompers of their own, "yaeba" has turned into a cosmetic craze in recent years, with Japanese
women of all ages flocking to dental clinics to have temporary or permanent artificial canines, called
"tsuke-yaeba," glued to their teeth.

2 cup of rice (arroz)
1 cup of palmito
¾ of onion
1 cup of mozzarella cheese
1 tsp of nuez moscada
½ cup of crema de esparragos
½ cup of crema dulce
1 ½ of milk
One chile
1 tsp of salt

Tabasco (the amount you want)
How to do arroz con palmito:
First you have to put the milk and the crema de esparragos in a hot pot. Then put the palmito, the chile,
mozzarella cheese nuez moscada and crema dulce into the pot. You have to let it cook about 10
minutes. Then put it in a jar to put it in the oven but before put the rice in the jar. After after you have done
that, put the jar into the oven and put the oven in 250 degrees and let it cook by 40 minutes in the oven.
When the 40 minutes later you have to put it on a cooling rack to don’t burn yourself.
Why this recipe is so important to me and my family?
My family and I like this recipe because it’s so good and is like a national food from Costa Rica, and other
countries from latin america. So every “special event” or if is my grandfather birthday or something like
that my mom cook it. It's so good and everybody in my family love it. My grandmother teach this recipe to
my mom and my mom, my aunt, me and my cousins so is like a special “tradition” in the family, everybody
know how to make it, but I’m not so good cooking.
