CasaAnanda Welcome Book

Casa Ananda
Your Home Away From Home

This Magazine contains information on the facilities in the villa, attractions, fiestas, eating out,
shopping, security and health and safety.

You will find it very useful. Please take the time to read and feel free to take a copy home
with you for future reference, we have enough copies for each guest.

Welcome Support during your stay

Welcome to Casa Ananda If you do need help or assistance during your stay please
from the owners Angela contact us using one of the numbers below so that we can
and Andy Lipscombe. We arrange for someone to pop in to see you at your earliest
do hope that you enjoy your convenience.
stay and would appreciate Angela: (00 44) 7896 316 291
any feedback, positive or Andrew: (00 44) 7791 133 147
negative to help us to keep
improving our facilities – Smoking
suggestions are always
welcome! We ask you to refrain from smoking inside the villa. Ashtrays
are provided and are to be used for smoking on the outside
terraces only. Please dispose of discarded cigarettes and ash
carefully.

Electricity

The cost of electricity is included in the rental cost of the villa
and is based on a fair usage policy. We ask you to switch off
all appliances and lights when not in use, especially heating/air
conditioning. This is Spain and power cuts do occur without
warning! If you do lose power, first of all, check the trip-
switches located in the cupboard beside the front door (there
is also another set in the lower apartment on the wall behind
the sofa bed). Then see if your neighbours have power. If
they have power and you don’t, call one of the contact
numbers supplied.

Security

Please ensure that when leaving the villa unattended you
double lock all external doors. Do not leave the front door
keys in the lock inside! If the door closes shut you will not be
able to open the door from the outside and a locksmith will
have to be called – the cost is extremely high.

Departure

Please prepare to vacate the villa by 10.00am unless a later
departure has been agreed. Please place all used linen in the
shower room next to the front door. Leave the spare set of
keys in secured key-safe on the wall beside the gate where
you found them on arrival.

Heating/Air conditioning

The villa is fitted with combined heating and air conditioning systems (air-con) for your
comfort. To benefit fully from this system please note the following:
All doors and windows must be closed when the air-con is in operation.
Comfortable temperatures are between 22°C and 26°C (for both winter and summer months),
setting the temperature too low can cause the system to freeze. The most efficient way to
keep the bedrooms cool is to keep the air con set at 26, with all doors and windows closed -
they can be left on all the time during your holiday if you use these settings. Please turn off on
departure day.
In the winter you may need to use the Central Heating - using the thermostat (which is set to
MAN), use the up and down arrows to set the required temperature (20 or 21 is ideal). The
heating will activate when the thermostat drops below the set temperature. Please turn the
temperature down when heating is not required or when you are going out, excessive use of
heating will result in extra charges.

Pool

In the interests of everyone’s safety, please ONLY use plastic cups around the pool area.
Please note that the pool is deep, over 2m at both ends. Ensure that an adult accompanies
young children at all times. Discourage children from climbing onto the balcony wall as there is
a considerable drop on the other side.
The pool is regularly cleaned, at least once a week during the summer. The pool cleaner has a
key to the gate and will arrive unannounced but will inconvenience you as little as possible.
Use the shower before swimming (there is an outdoor shower for your convenience) to wash
off any suntan lotion as this will keep the pool in good condition between cleans.
Under no circumstances should you dive or jump from the balcony into the pool.

Kitchen/Catering

We have tried to provide all the utensils that we think you will need during your holiday but if
you do think that there is something that would be of use then please let us know so we can
source for you.
All appliances are electric. Instructions for the hob are below.
The kitchen has natural marble worktops so please use cutting boards when using knives etc.
Please wipe away any spillages that could stain the worktops.
Hob: Press and hold the on/off icon (circle with a number 1 inside) - until the lights come on.
Select a ring that you want to use
Press + or - for the heat/temperature.
Press and hold the minus button to turn of the ring.

Linen/laundry change

The Villa will be cleaned prior to your arrival and after your departure. A mid-holiday
laundry change is available as an optional extra, charged locally. Let our representative know
if you require this service. Please help us by stripping the beds of linen and place it in the
shower room in the main part of the villa.

Washing Machine/Dishwasher

The washing machine is located in the downstairs apartment and instructions are found in the
drawer. You don’t need a dryer in Spain. We recommend that you use the clothes’ line situated
at the side of the house or the airer provided.
Washing powder, as well as other cleaning materials, can be found under the sink and we
would be grateful if you would ensure a supply is left for following guests. To avoid blocking the
filter please rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Do not put plastic cups in the
dishwasher, please.

Iron & Ironing board
An iron and ironing board are supplied for your convenience. Please ensure that you switch off
after use.

TV/Audio

The villa has TV, CD/DVD. Please note that, because of the location, some Sky TV channels
may not be available at certain times of the day. This is not unusual and cannot be helped (see
TV appendix at the end of this book).

Hot Water

The villa is equipped with a gas boiler that will heat the water as and when it is required.
However, please note that if everyone uses hot water at the same it may run cold. If you
experience constant cold water the gas supply may have run out – please inform our
representative as soon as possible. If you experience a loss of water pressure please see below
instructions on how to reset the water pump in the front garden;
Locate the pump that is in the top corner of the garden to the left from the front door
Check that the Power (green light) is on. If not, the trip switch is on the right
If the Power and the Failure lights are on - press RESTART until the pump starts.

Refuse

Please remove rubbish from the villa daily to the green bins located at the side of the main
roads. This will avoid bad odours and insect infestation. In Denia, the rubbish is collected from
the communal bins every day. Please recycle your rubbish whenever you can.

Barbecue

We have supplied a range of utensils for use on the barbecue. These are stored in the kitchen.
Take care when using the barbecue. Please clean it after use so that other guests visiting our
villa can enjoy it as much as you. If you leave the barbecue dirty a cleaning charge of 50
euros will be deducted from your deposit.

Internet Access

There is wireless internet in the villa, please fine wireless codes on the router.

Breakages
We understand that from time to time things like glasses and crockery can break. If any
breakages occur please inform our representative as soon as possible. This will allow us to
ensure that these items are replaced for our next guests. If any other breakages occur or any
equipment malfunctions please inform us immediately.

At the end of your holiday

Please vacate the villa by 10:00am unless a later departure has been agreed. Please place all
used linen in the shower room in the main part of the villa. Ensure that the air conditioning is
turned off and that all doors are locked and all the windows are closed.
Please lock the front door and leave the keys secured in the key-safe on the wall beside the
gate.

Key Safe Instructions

The Key Safe is located beside the front gate.
To open the key safe slide down the black cover. Key in the four-digit code. Slide down slider
on the left and the door swings down.
To close the key safe
Close and click the door into place. Spin the combination lock to a random number. Slide up
the cover. Please leave one set of keys in the safe for emergencies.

High Chair, Travel Cot and Kiddies’ Gate

If we have supplied a high chair and/or a cot please ensure that you check them and that you
are happy to use them for your children. We recommend that you use the retractable kiddies’
gates that have been put on the terrace to ensure children do not fall down the steps to the
pool. To use the Kiddies Gate: Depress the button on the top of the gate and slide forward.
Keeping the button depressed, slide it back towards the wall. Deploy the gate and lock it.

Health and Safety & useful numbers

Guests are responsible for reporting any dangerous occurrences and conditions, for the safety of
others, at the earliest opportunity.
The sun in Spain is very strong most of the year so please be careful, as sunburn is
uncomfortable and can be dangerous. Be particularly cautious if using the pool as the cool
water can make you feel that the sun is not affecting you.
Whilst we hope you have a trouble free holiday the following numbers may be of use if you
don’t. You may need to use the prefix 0034 if calling from a non-Spanish mobile phone.

Location of shops

Spain’s main supermarkets are called Mercadona, Mas y Mas, Consum, Carrafour and Lidl. All the
supermarkets will take credit cards. Please note that if paying by credit card or debit card you may be
required to show photo ID, a passport or driving license.
The nearest supermarket is Mercadona on the Plaza Jaime in Denia (Map ref C6). Most shops and
supermarkets close or have limited opening hours on Sundays (refer to each one individually for
information).

Approximately 10kms north on the N332 near Ondara is the Portal de La Marina shopping centre
(follow signs for Valencia and then signs for ‘Parque Comercial’). This is an indoor shopping centre with
many popular clothes shops.

Local fresh food markets are found in many towns. They are a great way to get the real flavour of
Spain. The food market in Denia is on a Friday morning and is a fantastic way to spend the morning -
fresh fruit and veg, meat and fish are available as well as plenty of places to grab a coffee or a glass of
wine to complete the experience!

Out and About

Other weekly clothes and food markets are found on the following days:
Mon Denia (clothing and other) & Parcent
Tues Altea & Jalon
Wed Ondara & Benidorm
Thur Javea & Pego
Fri Denia (food in the main town and a separate vintage market) Vergel, Gata de Gorgos &
Moraira
Sat Jalon, Els Poblets, Benissa, Ondara & Calpe
Sun Jesus Pobre (a wonderful little local produce market with lots of ecological goods)

Denia has a port, fishing fleet and marina. You can catch the ferry to the Balearic Islands or catch the
scenic coastal train to Benidorm.

Go south along the coast and visit Javea, Calpe, Moraira and Altea., a lovely coastal drive.
Go north and visit Oliva and Gandia for the best beaches in the area.

Go inland and visit the Jalon valley with its wine tasting and local restaurants. Valencia is also well worth
a day out especially to see La Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (The City of Arts and Sciences).

Attractions

The following are some recommendations for places to go. Please note that over time the
management of establishments can change and therefore so can standards.

Terra Mitica Theme Park (Junction 65a, AP7) -35 minutes by car, near Benidorm.
Aqualandia Water Park, Mundomar & Terra Natura – also located close to Benidorm.
There is also a Safari Park approximately 10km from the villa at El Verger. Leaving Denia
follow signs for N332 Valencia. Take the turnoff for El Verger and follow signs for the Safari
Park.

In the Portal de La Marina shopping centre there is a cinema and a bowling alley.
There are numerous golf courses in the area, from the very best championship courses - Oliva
Nova designed by Seve himself - to more modest 9-hole courses. La Sella (Marriot Hotel) is
only 10 mins from the villa – ask our representative for details.

Fiestas

Spain loves to party. Fiestas are held throughout the year in towns all across the region. It is well
worth seeing them if you are here at the right time. Here are a few approximate dates in to
make a note of. The Local tourist office in town will have exact information.

5/6 January Three Kings (the Spanish version of Santa with his presents)
15 - 19 March Las Fallas (a festival of burning monuments and lots of fireworks)
8 - 16 July Bous de la Mar (Running of the Bulls) in Denia
14 – 16 June Moros y Cristianos in Moraira (A wonderful parade of historic costumes)
14 – 22 July Moros y Cristianos in Javea

Private Cycling Holidays For Groups of 6 - 12 people

There nothing like cycling in the mountains of Alicante (officially known as "La muntanya de'Alicant" -
which are an equal distance between Alicante and Valencia) These limestone mountains provide a
varied terrain for road cyclists and provide all the challenges of better-known mountain ranges. At
Casa Ananda we can organise your trip, from just pointing you in the right direction for bike hire/
transport or a fully catered package to suit the needs of your group.

What's included in my fully catered holiday?

Transfer to and from airport for you and your bikes or bike hire where applicable
Breakfast and evening meal, home cooked on the premises daily (lunch is not provided, you will stop
for lunch while on your ride, paid for locally)
Evening Yoga/stretch for those who want to join in
Fully stocked fridge for those that need to "wine" down in the evening

After a hard morning's ride,
finding new routes, Andrew and
Josh breaking for a well earned

drink in the local cycling cafe
Mountain road biking is not just
for the fitter folks, Angela often
takes groups of women
(sometimes the wives of a mixed
group) on electric assisted bikes....
it's a fantastic way to see the
mountain routes without
tremendous effort :-)

Loving the hills!

OUT AND ABOUT
IN DENIA

Some of our favourite spots
Enjoy exploring...

Calle Loreto - Denia old town, a fantastic bustling street full of bars and restaurants.
Remember that the locals eat late - restaurants will be busy from 9pm

(a local would book a table for dinner at 10pm). Most restaurants open all day.

One of the many fiestas in
Denia old town

photo taken in 2017

Bar Zensa on the beach, next to the large club "sounders" in the Marina El Portet
A fantastic place to watch the sunset!

Bar Zensa - Marina El Portet, Denia

Marina de Denia - Another Marina with more wonderful bars and restaurants!
We really are spoilt for choice.

Grandad's favourite place to sit in the winter months!

Unless it's like this! Unusual, but possible!
