‘FOREST CAMP’

During the last school holidays, Mia’s parents had sent Mia to a forest camp. The activities at the
camp are more about getting to know and love the environment. The location of the camp is close
to the beach. The estimated number of participants in the camp is 30 people. The camp is especially
for children aged 4 to 6 years old. It is to gain more knowledge about the environment and form an
awareness to always love the environment.

Camp participants arrived at the camp site at 8:30 a.m. At the camp Mia got many friends
who were the same age and some were older than Mia. Among the friends that Mia knew at
the camp, Mia was closest to Hana, Amir, Dhiya and also Fikri. Mia is 5 years old, the same
age as Dhiya and Fikri while Amir and Hana are 6 -year -old twin sisters.

After having a breakfast, the camp organizers held the first activity which was
jungle trekking. The organizers of the camp instructed the facilitators on duty to
divide the children into several groups so that it was easy to look after and
control their safety while in the forest.

The child very excited to be able to see a wild plant tree that they had
never encountered because it was the first time they had entered the
forest. Laughter was heard from the children because they were very
happy to see the surrounding area in the forest.

The facilitators were tasked with introducing the names and advantages
of the plants they encountered. Hana said excitedly to Dhiya about how
tall the tree they had just seen was.

Sometimes, the children ask about the sounds they hear such as the sound
of crickets and the chirping of birds flying in the forest. Mia asked the
facilitator who led their group, Amirul, about what she had just seen and the
facilitator named Amirul replied 'it's the bees that go out to find food.'

And then, Fikri asked 'where do the bees live? '. Other
facilitators also replied ‘bees live in the hives they make and
usually the hives are on tall tree branches.

They finished the first activity at 12 p.m and they rested for a while
to taking a lunch before doing the second activity which is planting
trees. The children can also do activities to color different types of
flowers.

The second activity was held at 2:30 p.m. The camp organizer instructed the
children to be in their group earlier to make it easier for the facilitator to
count the attendance of the participants. Each child is given one sapling and
planting tools to use with the guidance of the facilitator.

The facilitator guides the children before planting the trees. The
diligently looked at his ways and there were some of them wh
unfocused and still playing around. Hana scolds her brother for playing
and not focusing on what the facilitator is showing.

After completing the tutorials, they instructed one by one the children in
the group to plant trees as they had been taught. Mia sees Amir still
wondering how to plant and Mia calls a facilitator to teach Amir again. Dhiya
advises Amir to always focus so as not to be left behind.

The children managed to plant the saplings as instructed but some of the children
were still struggling to plant the saplings. And the second activity ends at 5 p.m. Mia
said cheerfully about how excited she was to be able to plant trees to her friends, ‘I
gained new knowledge on how to plant trees’.

The activities at the camp have been completed and they are packing to move
home. Before leaving for home, the children mutual assistance to clean the areas
around the camp. The camp organizers gave souvenirs to each of the children as
memories. After finishing everything, they moved back home at 6:30 pm.
