Drama

Aeschylus- He was described as the father of tragedy. According to Aristotle, he expanded the
understanding of earlier tragedies. He was the first dramatist to make a trilogy. He wrote plays
about the Persian Wars. For example, his play called “The Persians”.

Sophocles- He was one of the 3 tragedians whose plays stayed alive. He wrote over 120 plays
but only 7 fully survived. He influenced the development of drama.

Poetry

Homer- Homer wrote the poems “Iliad” and “the Odyssey”. He wrote his poems
about the Trojan Wars.

History

Herodotus- Herodotus was a Greek historian who was born in Halicarnassus in the
Persian Empire. He is known for his book “The Histories”

Thucydides- Thucydides is an Athenian historian. His history of the Peloponnesian
Wars recounts the fifth century BC war between Spartans and Athens until 411
BC. He has been called the father of scientific history.

Sculpture

Phidias- Phidias was a sculpture, painter, and architect. He designed statues of the
Greek goddess Athena. He made the statue of Zeus at Olympia, which was one of
the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Architecture

Doric columns- The Doric column is the most known column. It is the simplest
column.

Ionic columns- Ionic columns are more detailed than Doric columns. They have a
circular swirl on each side.

Corinthian columns- Corinthian columns are the most complex and detailed
columns. The details look similar to leaves.

Science

Archimedes- Archimedes was a mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and
astronomer. Archimedes discovered modern day calculus.

Hippocrates- Hippocrates was a Greek physician. He studied medicine and was
nicknamed “The Father of Medicine”.

Mathematics

Pythagoras- Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher. He created the Pythagorean
Theorem.

Euclid- Euclid was a Greek mathematician. He was said to be the founder of
geometry.

Philosophy

Socrates- Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher. Socrates was Plato and
Xenophon’s teacher.

Plato- Plato was a philosopher in classical Greece. He was one of Socrates
students. Plato was Aristotle’s teacher.

Aristotle- Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher. He was considered the
“Father of Western Philosopher”
