FPSH P.R.E. MUNDIAL REGISTRY
SOUND
REASONING TO
FOLLOW THE
TRADITION OF
REVISION
The Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse is happy to announce our
P.R.E. Mundial Registry is currently planning a comprehensive 2018 Spring
Revision. We are excited at the number of breeders and owners who are
already submitting their paperwork for both Inscriptions and Revisions.
Revision is an investment in your horse. There are three steps to qualify to
be Revised as a P.R.E. horse. First, both parents must be Revised. Revision is an
inspection where the horses have been judged on their adherence to the P.R.E.
breed standards and have qualified to breed P.R.E. horses. Second, the foal must
be Inscribed or Registered. This process ensures the foal is in fact the offspring of
the designated parents and that there is no question of the ownership of the sire,
dam and foal. Third, when the foal reaches suitable age (3 years or more), it is
eligible to be Revised, and, if passed, is therefore judged qualified to breed.
Basic Revision is a quality control for breeders. Other breeds such as the Dutch
Warmblood and Friesian abide by similar processes such as the Keuring. Some
breeds, like the Appendix QH, rate on performance only.
In fact, horses at the Basic Level of Revision can be “failed” on only a few
points – such as a fallen crest or retained testicle. Other criteria will be explained

celebrate our featured artist, Mari Van
Dyke, who has captured the expres-
sive beauty of our beloved horses with
her pen and brush.
Mari, a native Oregonian, was born
to an artistic family and grew up in the
wilds of the northern Oregon coast.
As one of America’s most stunning
Pacific oceanfronts, the coast (and
her mother!) awakened Mari’s artistic
inclinations at a young age. For as long

Their differing shapes and sizes suggest
an understanding, though not clearly

Mari says she wanted to convey a bond
between mares. Ironically, this piece also
features Atlantica as well as her Iberian half sister, Festiva.
Sisters exemplifies that much can be accomplished by
subtle suggestion.
Mari comments that her love of the horse has led her
to support equine rescue groups, particularly those with
a focus on wild horses from the Pacific Northwest. Such
wild bands of horses include the famous Kiger Mustangs,
Sulphur Springs Mustangs and Pryor Mountain Mustangs,
all of which evidence genetic remnants of the indigenous
wild horses of Southern Iberia (Portugal). Rather than just
worry about the futures of these wild herds, she does
what she can to protect and preserve federal lands and
these untamed horses.
Another one of Mari’s passions is art education for
children. Despite drastic budget cuts to the arts in public
schools, she feels that people from all walks of life must
do what they can to teach children the arts in a “hands-
on” way. Not surprisingly, studies indicate art education
enhances creativity, inspires innovation, problem-solving,
imagination and original thinking in all forms of endeavors.
It allows children to express emotions for which words
may fail.
Mother Teresa’s quote, “Though not all of us can do
great things, we can do small things with great love,” came
to mind while chatting with Mari about her passion for the
horse and art. Let us all remember that even one person
can make a difference.
Finally, as we celebrate the heart and art of Mari Van
Dyke we just had to include “Pony Tale” in our review of
her artistic accomplishments. Mari says her “friend, partner,

US Dressage Finals
Dressage:
Riding with
Athletic Expression
Each year numerous IALHA members participate in the discipline of dressage. Thanks to the
wonderful USDF All-Breeds Awards, the IALHA is able to sponsor the ribbons to recognize the
accomplishments of these members. Ribbons are awarded from Champion through Fifth Place
in the Open, Adult Amateur, Junior/Young Rider, Musical Freestyle, and Vintage Cup divisions. And with
the advent of the US Dressage Finals, the IALHA is also able to help recognize the achievements of its
members who earn High Score Breed Awards during that prestigious national-level competition.
Congratulations to all our participating members! Not only are you achieving great things in a sport
based on, “bringing the horse and rider together in harmony ... a oneness of balance, purpose, and
athletic expression,” as described by dressage trainer Walter Zettl, but you are doing it on some of the
loveliest of breeds!

AA National Chaman Olivia Banyon Olivia Banyon
IALHA member Olivia Banyon shares her Finals
experience: “My boy Chaman has a GIANT personality, loves
to sunbathe and groom me when I groom him, gets hot with
the flying changes and is very, very clever. Being at Finals with
an Iberian horse is very special because there is not enough
representation from this breed in competition. Finals is a
very intense and electric atmosphere, and by nature I have
found Iberian horses to be very social and friendly. My guy was
comforted being around other horses. Chaman’s nickname is
‘Cha Cha.’ He was fresh and eager each day we went out to
the competition area. He really benefitted from lunging before
our work because he had a lot of energy, and the cold weather
didn’t help. After a few scary flower boxes in the warm-up,
we went into the arena and Cha Cha stayed very focused with
me. He came from Spain in May 2014. I have been carefully
progressing through the levels with him, beginning in Training
Level three years ago. I am now preparing for next year for
Fourth Level and Prix St. Georges under the guidance of Sara
Schmitt who is a ‘S’ dressage judge.”
