On behalf of over 500 members of the Shelby County (TN) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our Pearls of Perfection Debutante Cotillion. The merriment of this evening’s event is a celebration of the 2024 Pearls of Perfection Debutante Program participants. I would like to extend a heartfelt greeting to the families and friends of our 2024 Debutantes, Ladies-in-Waiting, Escorts, the Shelby County community, and members of our dynamic sisterhood. As we come together to celebrate ten radiant, resourceful, and resilient Debutantes, it is our sincere hope that this program pushed them beyond their limits, enhancing their abilities to succeed and dream bigger on their journey to womanhood. Since the early planning stages, the program was developed to be an integral part of our chapter’s youth initiatives that expose our youth to educational and cultural opportunities, while stressing the importance of community engagement and service which parallels with Delta’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. To the Debutantes, thank you for your demonstration of excellence in academics, exemplary moral standards, and active engagement in your local community. Because of your time, commitment, active participation, and hard work, the rewards are immeasurable. We wish you the very best in your future endeavors! To the Parents, we are appreciative of you for entrusting your young ladies to us. It has been a distinct honor and we truly hope the Pearls of Perfection Debutante Program and Cotillion will be a cherished memory for a lifetime. Thank you to the Pearls of Perfection Debutante Program and Cotillion Committee and everyone involved in making this program and event possible. Neither would be a success without your commitment, time, and talent. Again, thank you to each of you for joining us in making this an unforgettable evening. M E S S A G E F R O M T H E D E S K O F L i n z y H e n d e r s o n D e b u t a n t e L i a i s o n To my Pearls of Perfection: I am honored and pleased to serve as liaison for the 2023-2024 Debutantes. I have watched these young ladies blossom into beautiful, radiant and exquisite young women. As Delta Debutantes, you are expected from this day forward to exemplify what it means to truly be Polished, Poised and Prepared. You have learned that life will present unique challenges along the way, but with strength, courage, wisdom and prayer you can conquer all things. You have been groomed to make significant contributions to society, and I believe you are prepared to do so. Being a Debutante is quite a distinctive honor, but do not stop here. Take time to applaud yourselves and this incredible occasion, but do not stop here. Look around and embrace each other, but do not stop here. Instead, continue to strive for the best and feed your appetites for learning. Above all continue to be optimists and believers, for those things are certainly contagious and represent the pearls of perfection that you have become. Our journey has been an exciting one that I will never forget - from the Better Me attire workshop, where you learned to express your style regardless of societal expectation, to the laughter and tears shared at the Mother/Daughter Afternoon Tea at the Peabody Memphis, Career Panel, the Road to College, Dinner Etiquette Workshop, Father/Daughter paint party, and of course, the dedication shown in weekly waltz practice, all culminating with this special occasion. I hope you will continue to embody the principles and lessons learned, as you move into the next phase of your life. Furthermore, you should be complimented on the young men with whom you have chosen to share this journey. The Escorts conducted themselves as true gentlemen and their enthusiasm is truly commendable. Thank you to the parents of the Debutantes for your dedication and support, but mostly, for allowing us to guide and mentor your daughters. I also thank the POP Committee and ladies of Shelby County (TN) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated for your sisterhood of support. Finally, to my ten polished, poised, and prepared debutantes. I am nothing less than extremely proud. Remember, “You are the designer of your destiny; you are the author of your story.” and I for one cannot wait to be a witness to all of your glory. Congratulations ladies and welcome to society! It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as your escort liaison this year. As our Debutantes embark on their entrance into society, I’d like to reflect on how far you all have come as you have supported them along their journey. Through your participation and engagement in various programs and activities, I have watched you evolve from a group of excited, slightly timid young men,, to a league of confident, dedicated, and distinguished gentlemen. You explored the theatrical arts at our cultural event, learned about professional grooming and attire, experienced the performing arts firsthand, and delved into the culture of proper dining etiquette. You embraced every experience with enthusiasm, openness, and have excelled at every challenge presented to you. If you approach everything life presents you with the same commitment and dedication you’ve approached this program, your success will be inevitable. To the parents of our esteemed escorts, thank you. The undeniable foundation you have laid was evident and made our work with these young men rewarding and enjoyable. Your direction and guidance shines so brightly in these exceptional gentlemen and we expect nothing less than excellence in all of their future endeavors. Thank you for all that you have sacrificed and thank you for trusting us to provide an enriching experience for them. Escorts, thank you for accepting the charge to accompany our Pearls of Perfection on this momentous occasion. As we conclude our second year of a program that grows bigger and better, we understand the time, dedication, and sacrifice it takes to fulfill the promise to your Debutante’s journey, and we thank you for being an integral part of their experience. The women of the Shelby County (TN) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., pray that you always strive for excellence and continue to make us, your families, and your communities proud. As you take your final bow tonight, remember the relationships you have formed, the lessons you have learned, and the growth you have achieved. Carry forward the values of excellence and service and continue to make us , your families, and communities proud. “Always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more than you know.” Young black men, you are unstoppable.
