FOREWORD

Shakespeare said, I believe, “Brevity is the soul of wit” and Neil Gaiman said that short stories are
journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner. In
addition, our students have abided by both these maxims and have produced some of the most
wonderful pieces replete with their own art, their own characters and some of the most wonderful
stories. I would like to congratulate the fantastic Home Room Teachers, on their stellar efforts to
elicit this work from their students; the students, for their perseverance on this task every single
day over many weeks; and to all our parents, who have supported our reading program and the
development of reading skills at home. I do hope you will enjoy this book as much as we have all
enjoyed creating it and this will occupy a proud place on your bookshelf for many years to come
and, God willing, just the first in the many literary successes in the lives of our students.

NAUGHTY BOY CHACHA

Chacha was a naughty little boy. He likes to wander on his own, this habit worried his mother very much.
Chuchu was chacha’s sister. Chuchu was an obedient girl. One day their teacher assigned homework to all
of them. She said “children your assignment when you go home today is to learn your parents phone
numbers. That way if you ever get lost you will be able to call them and tell them where you are”.

All the children went home and learned their parents phone number. Chacha however didn’t bother to learn
his parents phone number. A few days later chuchu and chacha were playing in the park. Chacha saw a
balloon floating in the air, he immediately started running behind the balloon. Chuchu called him to come
back but he didn’t listen to her and ran behind the balloon. After some time, he realized that he was in a
strange street and started crying. He sat under a tree sadly.

Chuchu saw a traffic police nearby and went to him and informed him what had happened, he gave his phone
to chuchu to call her mother. Chuchu called her mother and informed her what had happened to chacha.
Chuchu’s mother rushed to the park and picked up chuchu. They both went in the direction where chacha
ran. After sometime they found chacha sitting under a tree.
Chacha came running to them. Chuchu’s mother picked both of them and went home. After reaching home
chacha promised his mom that he would never go on his own. He also learned his parents phone number.

The Fan went for a walk

Once upon a time there was a fan and an a/c. And a wolf. The fan was walking alone
in the forest. A wolf came and said I will eat you. The fan shouted for help and a/c came.
The wolf got scared because a/c could turn it into ice. So he said I was kidding and took off his dress.

In a winter time, in a small cottage, there lived a happy couple. To them was born a baby girl and her name
was Cutie. She had blue eyes and she had skin as white as snow.

One day she went to her higher grade school and the name of the school is Oakridge.International school
she meet a girl, she has chubby cheeks, colourful eyes and lips as red as a rose. She played and sbecame
friends with her.

Fire! Fire! Everyone cries. Sound the alarm aaaah! The two friends did not bother, they enjoyed, suddenly
the two friends got stuck. The teacher saw the fire in cctv camera and They called the fire men at 101.
While they ate grapes, they decided to be careful next time.

The Princess

Once upon a time there lived a princess. She lived in a beautiful palace. The
place was very tall and it was full of beautiful objects. One day the princess went to play in her
garden. She saw a cat and a rat. She decided to make them her pet. The princess loved to pick
flowers. One day she was walking near her palace. There was a fire on the road so cat and rat started
running and made princess fall. Princess's knee got hurt and started bleeding. Princess started crying
so cat and rat said sorry but she still kept crying. Cat and rat went to the queen and told her about
princess. Queen rushed out of palace and went to see the princess. Queen called the
doctor. Doctor treated princess’s knee and princess thanked doctor.
Princess got well and king ordered a big fancy cake. Cat and rat also came to the party. Everybody ate the
cake and enjoyed the party. Everybody lived happily ever after.

Jack and his books

Once upon a time there lived a family. In the family there lived a mom and son. The dad had passed away.
The son was 19 years old and he was in college and the mom was 43. They lived on the first floor.
One day Jack and his mother went shopping. They thought of buying Jack some books like Last Kids on
Earth and What a Team etc. Jack loved these books. But the problem was that there was a thief coming so
they wanted to keep the box inside but it was too heavy. It was a big amazon without handles.
So, they used a slanting thing and they locked the door so the thief couldn’t come in. The slanting thing
was called a slope and it was made out of wood. So, it was very easy for them to push it up. Jack was very
happy reading his books.

Mishty and Ziggy

Ziggy and he thought what a lovely cat and dog . He wanted to catch them .

Mishty and Ziggy were clever and brave animals . When the stranger tried to catch them ,
Mishty and Ziggy pawed the stranger’s face . The stranger ran away and never came back .

The Superheroes save the city!

Once upon a time there lived five superheroes called Spiderman, Ironman, Hulk,
Captain America and Batman. One day from his balcony Ironman saw a huge storm coming to the city from
the side of the ocean. It was huge whirling blow of wind. Soon the storm started creating a lot of rain.
Ironman called all the superheroes and told about the huge storm. Each of them wore their costumes
quickly and rushed out of their house to join Ironman. Spiderman soon spotted the heavy storm coming
towards them. By then all the rain from that storm created a very heavy flood in the city. Captain America
put his shield in front of the storm to push it away. He kept on pushing the storm until it went back to the
deep sea again. Spiderman jumped from one building to another and finally spotted a playground which
was not flooded yet as it was uphill. Spiderman shouted “Hulk, over there” and pointed to the playground.
Hulk ran to the playground then smashed the road in front of the flood water to make a giant hole. The
flood water started going inside and city became clean again.

When the superheroes were fighting with flood and storm, Risha the scientist was doing an experiment
with her colleague Bruce. Risha gave some medicine to Bruce to test if he can stay in water like a fish. But
the experiment went wrong and Bruce turned into a monster. He had mighty claws and he looked scary.
Bruce jumped out of the lab and started creating trouble in the city. All superheroes ran to find Bruce and
tried to stop him. But he was very powerful and big. Hulk found the big broken door of the lab and saw
Risha. Risha told Hulk what went wrong. Hulk called all the other superheroes and they all asked Risha to
help. Risha gave a blue medicine asked the superheroes to put that in Bruce’s mouth. Batman thought of a
plan and asked Spiderman to use his web to hang from building and pass the medicine to Captain America.
Captain America used his shield to push the medicine to Hulk. Hulk used all his power to punch on Bruce’s
face and when he opened his mouth, Ironman jumped from sky and put the medicine in Bruce’s mouth.
Slowly slowly Bruce turned back into a normal person again. Batman put Bruce in Bat-car and carried him
back to the lab and Risha took care of him. Superheroes saved the city and everyone lived happily ever
after.



The cat in the bowl

One day , Sarah was playing with her ball.
“Meow!”
“Who is that?”, she wondered .
She ran into the garden and she looked all around her house .
In the kitchen, she saw a cute, white, little kitten in a bowl with pool of milk around.
“Aww!”, she said and picked the kitten up .
The kitten licked Sarah.
Her father looked out for the mother cat. The mother cat was not to be found.
“Can we have her as a pet ?” asked Sarah.
“Oh yes,we can !” said her mother.
“Yes “,said her father ,after some thought.
Sarah patted the kitten and the kitten licked her hand again .
“Mia!,I am going to name her Mia” Sarah said.
“You can have the bowl and we are now a happy family !”.

Brave Brothers

Aarav and Aatharv were two brothers. They loved to play with each other. Once day they were playing with
a ball in the playground. Aatharv hit the ball very high and it went into a tall tree.

Aatharv wanted to get the ball down.
He climbed up on the tree. Half way up he got scared. He could not go up and come down. He was struck on
the tree. He started to cry. Seeing Aatharv cry, Aarav become worried. He wanted to help Aatharv.

Aarav went back to home. He looked in the shed and found a ladder. Aarav got the ladder to the playground
and put it up next to the tree. Aarav climbed up on the ladder and helped Aatharv get down with the ball.

They were both very happy. They went home
and told what happened to their parents. Their parents were also very happy.

THE FAIRY AND THE MAGIC PENCIL

Once there was a boy named Peter who was a wonderful painter. He drew so many beautiful things on his
book. Peter was poor and he did not have anything to eat. He lived nearby a forest where fairies used to
leave. One day he went to the forest and sat under a huge tree and started to draw, and one of the fairies
saw his drawings from the tree top and decided to give him a magic pencil. Peter saw the magic pencil and
started to draw in his book, he drew an apple which became a real apple Peter was happy and ate the apple,
in this way he drew many things and got so many fruits to eat and also helped the needy people by sharing
food to them.
One day Peter came back to the forest and sat under the tree, but he could not find his Magic pencil he
started to search everywhere but did not find ,then he found out that some thieves had stolen it, the thieves
came to know about the magic pencil and drew jewels and money which became real and they were shock
that these things are becoming real, Peter saw all this from behind the tree and tried to take the pencil from
them ,but could’nt take after sometime peter took the pencil and fairy helped him by not showing her.

Fun in Diwali

On 14th of November, we celebrate Diwali and children’s day.
I celebrate Diwali festival with my family.

On Diwali, I took bath in the morning and became fresh and clean.
Then, we did Laxmi pooja and Laxmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

We kept our new cloths near the goddess.
And in the night, we burst crackers with my whole family and we Had so much fun.

I like Diwali and it is fun and it is my favorite festival.

MY FUNNY PLUTO

friendly with everyone. One day I took him to my play area their my friends was playing when they saw
pluto everyone came near him and played with him suddenly for a while he was missed. We all searched
he was not found we all sat in a sad face he was hiding under a tree by seeing pluto we all run towards
him. I was happy by seeking pluto coming back to me and we all played with pluto.



THE TIGER AND THE POACHER

Once upon a time, there lived a Tiger called Tenali. He was like the king of the forest protecting the forest
and other animals. One fine day while he was roaming around the forest in search of his prey. A poacher
then caught him in the net.
Tenali asked the poacher to release him immediately. However, the poacher denied doing so. He then
asked the poacher to answer few of his questions before he takes him away from the forest.
The poacher had agreed to answer his questions.
Tenali asked ‘’ Why do you need me? What do you gain by killing me?” The poacher then replied saying
that I can earn in dollars if I sell your skin, bones, teeth, etc., the tiger was shocked to hear that. However,
without expressing his feelings asked him more questions, “What do people do with my organs?” The
poacher said, “People make decorative materials using your skin, make medicine using your bones and a
lot more can be done.” During their conversation, suddenly a poisonous insect had bit the poacher. He
then started screaming to the top of his voice and seeked for help. Looking at the poacher tiger felt sad
and advised him reach out to a plant, which was nearby him in the forest. Tenali then asked him to
squeeze the leaf and leave the extract on the insect bite. In a while, the poacher got relieved from pain and
completely all right. The poacher thanked the tiger for saving his life and was ready to release tiger.
Tenali then said, ‘Look my dear Human, we animals do not hunt or kill animals without any basic reason.
We animals protect the forest, as they are the lungs of earth. In addition, we keep the food chain balanced
and so we live in harmony with each other. We kill to other animals to live for the day, but you kill animals
for luxury. If you still want my skin and other organs you could take after I’m dead naturally. Also I’m sure
that it’s not always necessary to use our organs for your human needs”. The poacher then felt guilty for his
act and left the forest with a note in the entrance as ,

“SAVE ANIMALS, AS THEY ARE THE SAVIOUR OF OUR EARTH”

Boy and the 7 little sheeps

Once upon a time, there lived a boy and the 7 little sheeps. He takes the sheeps to the farm to
eat grass.

Suddenly, the boy started shouting 'there is a wolf' , 'there is a wolf'.

The farmers came running. But there was no wolf. The farmers said not to lie. Next day, the boy did the
same thing. The farmers came again. This time the farmers angrily said not to lie. The 3rd day,
the boy did not lie. So the wolf did not eat the 7 little sheeps.

SPACE WORLD

Once upon a time I, with my friends and fairy went to space. We went in a flying saucer. Sally
and Elly, my two friends and I wore space suit. Tea, the fairy was flying the saucer. The saucer was
going really fast.

In space we saw planets, stars and the sun. We all landed on the biggest planet Jupiter. We
were having lots of fun. We were jumping all around and catching each other. Jupiter had lot of
volcanoes and they were burning. We were going upside down because there was no gravity.
Then we went to Neptune. It was really cold so fairy got our jackets using magic wand. After some
time, we decided to go back to Earth, our home.

On the way, we were attacked by aliens. Aliens had a round face and two caterpillars like
antennas. Some aliens have two eyes, some had four and some had eight also. They were big like
10-year-old kids. Aliens came in a big flying saucer. They had guns and they started shooting at us.
We got scared but Tea, the fairy saved us with her magic wand. She waived magic wand and their
guns stopped working and their flying saucer got stuck.
We quickly went back home safely.

flower.

Mommy said, “It’s ok”. Mommy put a new sticker and a memory card.

A TALL GIRAFFE

In a jungle there lived a group of animals, all they
lived happily by sharing their food with each other. One
day a giraffe came to that jungle from a nearby jungle.
The giraffe was so tall and because of his long neck he
could reach to the upper branch of trees and ate all the
fruits alone leaving no more fruits for other animals. all
the animals did not like giraffe because of this act.

One day a baby elephant was playing with
his mother and he was so hungry and asked her
mother to get some fruits, baby elephant was so
small and was able to eat only the juicy berry
which was growing in one of the tallest trees in the
jungle. Her mother asked monkey to help her to
get the juicy berry from the trees.

The Monkey who was always thinking
to teach giraffe a lesson, said to giraffe
“there some lovely juicy berry growing in
that tree but you would not able to reach
that tree”

The Giraffe who was always proud of his
height said “it’s impossible just watch me” then
he reared up his long neck and put out his tongue
but he was unable to get the fruit, then the
monkey said “you could not reach but I can” and
suddenly he jumped on to the giraffes back and
stretched out his long arm and picked up the
fruit.

Then the monkey said “sometimes we could not do it alone, but we can do it together” after
that the giraffe understood his mistake and helped other animal by sharing the fruits, and all they
lived happily ever and ever.

THE DOVE & THE ANT

Once upon a time there was an ant living on a tree. One day, it fell into the river which is
under the tree. A Dove saw the ant struggling to come out on to the shore. The Dove threw a leaf
to save the struggling ant. The ant climbed on to the leaf and reached the shore safely. Few days
later, Ant saw a bad hunter in the forest. When he was aiming at the Dove, Ant had reacted
quickly, went and bit the hunter on his heel, the Dove then got saved. Dove and the Ant remained
to be good friends thereafter.

DOLPHINS SAVES THE SEA

Once upon a time, there was a Dolphin who lives in the sea with her family & friends. In her
family she had her father, mother, sister and a brother. The dolphin name was sweety.

One day a pirate ship came. She saw the pirate ship which was catching some fishes with the
help of net. She got alert & informed her parents, her father said to sweety that you are big enough to
deal with them.

After that sweety clapped and her friends came. They thought of an idea to trick the pirates. The
all Dolphins gathered and diverted attention of the pirates and all her crab friends make a whole in the
ship.

The ship started sinking and all the pirates went to the seashore as they know how to swim, and
the dolphins & fish were saved by sweety dolphin & they lived happily ever after.
MORALE OF THE STORY: -

We should not be scared of any danger and we should face any situation with our mind & be
brave.

LION AND WOLF

Once a wolf and a lion went to a village from the forest, looking for food. Then the wolf saw a
sheep. The wolf said to the lion that he will get him some food. The wolf ran to the sheep place. The
wolf saw dogs and men guarding the sheep’s. He was not able to kill the sheep, so he went back. The
lion was angry, as there was no food. The wolf said suddenly and cleverly the sheep’s are thin we will
wait for the sheep’s to become fat and then eat them. The lion foolishly taught the wolf is correct and
went to another place.

MORALE: It is clever to think a solution when we are in trouble.

THE THREE FRIENDS

One day, there was a butterfly who was flying around happy. Then all of a sudden, a kitten
started to chase the butterfly, the butterfly thought that the kitten wanted to eat her but the
kitten only wanted to play. The butterfly did not know that the kitten wanted to play so she kept
flying higher and higher into the sky.

Then the kitten got angry because the butterfly kept flying away, so the kitten jumped so
high and got the butterfly, nearby there was a snail who was watching all of this drama. The snail
saw that the kitten got the butterfly so he went to save the butterfly. The snail threw his shell in
the air and it touched the kitten, the kitten got scared and ran away, then the shell flew back on
the snail. ‘Thank you so much ‘said the butterfly, ‘anytime ‘said the snail.

Soon after, the butterfly and snail felt sad because they scared the kitten, so they went to
the kitten's home to say sorry. They knocked on the door, a little girl named Anika said what you
are doing here?'' The butterfly and snail asked if they could see the kitten. Then the kitten came
and said hi, sorry that we were a bit mean to you we did not know that you wanted to play the
butterfly and snail said, it ok said the kitten. Soon all of them were friends.

THE PIGEON AND RABBIT

Once there was a mother pigeon in a forest lived with her babies .One day the pigeon
went in search of food and found a rabbit which was happily Playing. The pigeon caught the
rabbit and took it to her nest to feed her babies .But the Babies dint want to eat the rabbit as it
was very cute and left the rabbit. The rabbit thanked the babies and ran away as fast as it can.

BAKING A CAKE

Today is my Papa’s Birthday. Mama and me are making a chocolate cake. We mix egg,
chocolate, milk, sugar, flour in the mixing bowl. We mix it longer using the spatula. Then we put
it in the oven. We waited for the cake to rise. The cake was very hot. So, we put on our Mittens.
We took it out of the oven. We decorated with the cream and wrote “Happy Birthday Papa”.

FUN WITH MUDDY PUDDLE

This is a story about a young pretty girl name Aaryanka. She loves nature and animals. She
is a fun loving girl. She spreads love with her smile.

One day it was raining and she was sitting by her window watching the rain. she saw a lot
of muddy puddles and wanted to play with them. So she asked her mother if she could go out and
play in the muddy puddles, expecting for an answer “NO” but to her surprise, her mom said “YES”
and told to be careful and come back soon. She wore her boots quickly n took her umbrella n went
out to play happily jumping in the muddy puddles. Small happiness that money can’t buy.

THE DARK VILLAGE

Timmy the magician was going to his Grand Parent’s house along with his mother.
While travelling, they were enjoying the scenic views through the bus’s window while sipping
cold drink. Suddenly the roads got foggy and the visibility dropped to almost zero, Timmy
started feeling cold and threw away the cold drink then wrapped himself with his mothers’
chunni, everyone in the bus were in a state of panic, because its mid-April and just a while ago
everyone was drenched in sweat. After driving for almost 30 minutes in the fog people in the
bus started to see settlements and were kind of relieved, thinking there were people! Timmy
with excitement, said to his mother, “Look mommy, houses”. The driver stopped the bus and
told everyone to have a tea at the stall in the village, everyone agreed, cause after all they
were in summer wears and it was freezing cold! Timmy asked to the owner of the tea stall
“Why is it so foggy, when it’s the middle of summer?” At first the owner tried to ignore Timmy,
because he did not want to speak, but little Timmy was very curious and was not going back
unanswered. Alas! The owner said “Fine! Let me explain.” There were clear signs of joy on
Timmy’s face when he heard that. The owner continues “Roughly 609 years ago there was a
wicked witch who was removed from the village, because people feared her, and her
witchcraft. Due to sheer anger filled in her heart, she cursed the whole village saying “From
now on, this village will be filled with sheer darkness and this village shall be known as The
Dark Village.” well that is the story of this sad village.” Hearing this Lil’ Timmy said “Well, that

is sad to be honest.” But the owner said that the people were fine with everything happening
and are living peaceful lives. Timmy said to the owner “Would you be happy if the fog is
gone?” The owner said “Oh Oh Oh, not only me but every single person in the village would be
happy!” Timmy the magician pules out his magic wand and said “Abraka Dabra, let my word be
true, All the Fog in the Village, disappear” Only under 30 seconds all Fog in the village
disappeared. Every single person in the village came and thanked Timmy. After 5 minutes
everyone boarded the bus and continued the journey! While in the bus Timmy said to his mom
“Well, to be honest I would rather live in that village, than our house! Cause, it’s not this hot!”
The mother grimed and said nothing the whole journey!

AMOGH’S FUN DAY WITH RIAAN

Once Upon a time Amogh is at home with Mommy, Daddy and Amay.
He receives a call from his friend, Riaan to come to his California home to play.

Amogh quickly hops into his car and drives to California…… .

Later Amogh and Riaan play Disney Pix Cars 3, while Dev uncle & Shruti aunty make dinner for
them and all ate together.

After dinner Amogh says bye to Riaan and drives back home to Bengaluru and changes to night
dress and goes to bed with Mommy, Daddy and Amay.

liked to watch sky. During summer he went for swimming
and night camping. His dream was to become an
astronaut. He worked hard and studied well. Max grew
up into an astronaut.

One day, he went to space in a big rocket. His plan was to go to Uranus. He travelled a lot and
finally reached Uranus. It was very cold out there. He looked out for help. Finally, he found an
alien who was wearing warm cloths. He asked for help. Alien gave warm cloths to him. They said
‘Hello’ each other and they became good friends. They lived together in Uranus for ten days.

One day the boy said to alien “I want to go back to
earth, are you coming with me?”. Alien happily said “Yes”.
They got into the rocket and flew up. They saw so many planets
and finally reached earth. Max took alien to his house. He gave
good food and sweets to his friend. They helped each other and
lived happily ever after.

Moral – We should help each other.

SARA’S GOT A NEW FRIEND

Shivani mOnce upon a time there was a girl whose name was Sara. One day she went to a garden.

There she saw a butterfly sitting in a corner and crying. Sara asked butterfly, why are you crying?
Butterfly said that I do not have friends. Everyone thinks I am not beautiful because my wings are
black. Sara told butterfly, do not be sad. You are beautiful, you have got black colour wings and
orange colour dots and they look so beautiful together. Will you become my friend, butterfly asked?
Sara said Oh yes !! and they player together.

CLEVER FISH

One day a fisherman goes to catch some fish. He gets hold of two fishes . He sees it taking.
He holds the fish and he talks to it.
The fish asks him to let it go. It will come back with more fish along with it tomorrow.
He thinks of letting go. He goes next day but he finds no fish. It was so clever. It was
planning to escape from him. So he thinks that how can a fish get an idea to escape from him. How
smart it was to fool him.
