Irene the Righteous of Chrysovalantou

Saint Saint Irene, who was from Cappadocia, flourished in the ninth century. Be-
Sophia cause of her great beauty and virtue, she was brought to Constantinople as
a prospective bride for the young Emperor Michael (842-867); however, as
Cathedral Saint Joannicius the Great foretold, it was God's will that she assume the
monastic habit instead. She shone forth in great ascetical labours, and suf-
Miami, fered many attacks from the demons; while yet a novice, she attained to the
Florida practice of Saint Arsenius the Great, of praying the whole night long with
arms stretched out towards Heaven (see May 8). God showed forth great
July 28th, signs and wonders in her, and she became the Abbess of the Convent of
2019 Chrysovalantou. She was granted the gift of clairvoyance and knew the
thoughts of all that came to her. She appeared in a vision to the king and
Telephone rebuked him for unjustly imprisoning a nobleman who had been falsely ac-
cused. Through a sailor from Patmos to whom he had appeared, Saint
305- 854-2922 John the Evangelist sent her fragrant and wondrous apples from Paradise.
* Fax: She reposed at the age of 103, still retaining the youthful beauty of her
countenance. After her repose, marvelous healings beyond number have
305-858-1854 been wrought by her to the present day.

Resurrectional Apolytikion –Tone 5

Τὸν συνάναρχον Λόγον Πατρὶ καὶ Πνεύματι,

Eternal with the Father and the Spirit is the Word, Who of a Virgin was begotten for
our salvation. As the faithful we both praise and worship Him, for in the flesh did He
consent to ascend unto the Cross, and death did He endure and He raised unto life the

dead through His all glorious resurrection

Apolytikion for St. Sophia Tone 3

Χαίρει ἔχουσα ἡ Ἐκκλησία, .

Having you and your three daughters, as a sacred boast the Church rejoices, and with
gladness she praises you, You are to me my pride and joy, as are the most precious relics

of your children; Oh Glorious Martyrs: Sophia, Faith, Hope and Love, intercede to
Christ our God to save our souls.

You were transfigured upon the mount, O Christ our God, and Your disciples, in so far
as they could bear, beheld Your glory. Thus, when they see You crucified, they may un-
derstand Your voluntary passion, and proclaim to the world that You are truly the efful-

gence of the Father.

Wisdom of the Fathers

In this case indeed He discloses also another sign, and that no small one, of His own God-
head, and of His equality in honor with the Father. For whereas they said, "To unbind sins
pertains to God only," He not only unbinds sins, but also before this He makes another
kind of display in a thing which pertained to God only; the publishing the secrets in the
heart. For neither had they uttered what they were thinking. St. John Chrysosotom

Scripture Readings

Epistle Reading:
St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 12:6-14

BRETHREN, having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use
them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches,
in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he
who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be gen-
uine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affec-
tion; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit,
serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who perse-
cute you; bless and do not curse them.

Gospel Reading:
Matthew 9:1-8

At that time, getting into a boat Jesus crossed over and came to his own city. And
behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their
faith he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." And be-
hold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming." But Jesus,
knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier,
to say 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say
'Rise and walk?' But that you may know that
the Son of man has authority on earth to
forgive sins" he then said to the paralytic --
"Rise, take up your bed and go home." And
he rose and went home. When the crowds
saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified
God, who had given such authority to men.
