Ships & Sailors

Instructions: One student is selected as captain and will have the
opportunity to call out commands for other students to follow. In
Ships and Sailors, you must identify one side of the court as Ships and
the opposite side as Sailors. When the captain shouts ships or sailors,
the participants will run to that designated side of the gym. The other
commands include Five Men Pointing North, Three Men Rowing, Hit
the Deck, Captain’s Coming, and Starfish. The command “Five Men
Pointing,” means that a group of 5 players must gather and point
upwards. If there are too few or too many players in a group, that
entire group is disqualified from the game. This same rule applies for
“Three Men Rowing,” however, for this command, three students will
sit crisscross one behind the other and move their arms in a rowing
fashion. When the term “Hit the Deck” is said, students must get on
the floor in the way you would be if you were in the down form of a
push-up. “Captain’s Coming” means the students should stand
completely still in a salute position until they hear the words at ease.
Starfish means you have three seconds to get to a wall and spread
across it like a starfish.

Hula Hoop represents safe spaces in which players can step. The

either while it is coming down or on the rebound. While
the player is catching the ball all other players scatter and
get as far away as they can from the person catching the
ball. When the ball is caught that player yells “SPUD!”. The
players who are running away must then stop in their
tracks. The player with the ball then tries to throw the
ball and hit one of the other players. “It” may only take 4
steps towards the other players. If the ball is caught the
