MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT
“Whatever good things we build end up building us.”
- JIM ROHAN
Taking the first step in creating something is the most overwhelming and intimidating
decision anyone has to make. But, when anyone is assisted by the best people and
supporters, it is the easiest to make.
Congratulations and well done is what I have to say to all those who contributed,
supported and were an active part of this inception in Rotaract NIBM. We could not
have accomplished anything without the support and guidance from the management
of the National Institute of Business Management, Rotarians from our sponsoring
Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Capital City and the District steering committee for the
years 2019-20 led by DRR Rtr. Krishan Balaji.
At the end of every journey it's often we see people speaking of how endeavors weren't
easy and that's true, because where there is honest commitment and a relentless drive
to solve development issues, it never is.
What gives me hope is knowing that we are upholded by many who will undertake to
the best of their ability, projects and programmes of various capacities with the
intention of bettering their community, whether it be family, university or society. As a
part of Rotaract, we are often asked what sets us apart from the other youth
movements in the world. Out of the several reasons we can offer, it is that we are
fortunate enough to have been given the space to work in whatever is it the challenge
we are passionate about and that opportunity and space is why we see the best of the
Rotaractors reflected in the endeavors undertaken.
To have been entrusted with guiding a movement of this caliber has been a privilege
and to have been able to do so with an amazing Chartering Executive Committee has
been a great opportunity.
I wish you all the very best in the upcoming endeavors, and to be the breakthrough to
excellence!
Viva la Rotaract!

MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB SECRETARY
“A goal is a dream with a deadline”
- NAPOLEON HILL
As the charter secretary of Rotaract Club of NIBM, it is with pleasure that I write down a
few words for the first annual report of Rotaract Club of NIBM.
Service is a vital part of humanity. You do not need a qualification to show humanity, all
you need is “empathy” and passion” to bring about a change in society. As rotaractors
we are humanitarians, but we have more enthusiasm regarding personal development,
as it is only when we learn to service in the most efficient way possible that we actually
bring about a change, a change with no cost; a change with deeper meaning.
After chartering the club on 24th of December, Our club had a great journey within the
six months of time. As the charter secretary of the Rotaract Club of NIBM, I was given
the task to stabilize the club within the remaining six months of time and to make the
basement of it. So as we know we did a great job with the help of our president Rtr.
Ravindu Welgama and all the club officials and club members. Though we had only a
half of the rotaract year, we achieved a lot of targets and gave a boost to the club and
got highlighted within the NIBM and Rotaract community as well.
None of this would be achievable if not for the help of continuous support of the DRR.
Krishan Balaji and his district team. And we extend our gratitude for helping and
encouraging us to go forward through rotaract movement as well. And also our
gratitude goes to our sponsoring rotary club, Rotary Club of Capital City for accepting
our invitation as the sponsoring rotary club. And we would like to thank you to our
director general Dr. D.M.A. Kulasooriya and our mentor Dr. Buddhima Subasinghe for
helping us to start the rotaract club in NIBM and encouraging us throughout the last six
months of time.
So today marks the end of our charter year and the dawns of a new year led by the
president Rtr. Ravindu Welgama and the present board of officials for the next year as
well. So I hope that next year will also be a remarkable year for the Rotaract Club of
NIBM and for the whole Rotaract movement as well.
Viva la Rotaract!

CLUB MEMBERSHIP
Membership Strategy for the year
In order to be vibrant and active, each club needs new members. New members
introduce new ideas, brings new perspectives and extend the reach of the club to the
community.
Members who join a club with no knowledge are more likely to leave within a year or
two. Before they join, it's important to aware them about what it's like to be a member
of the club. Holding information sessions gives prospective members an opportunity to
learn about the club's events and membership benefits.
Orientation programs are conducted in batch wise for each new intake within the NIBM,
but due to the prevailing situation of the country online orientation programs have
been conducted to provide the necessary details and give a brief idea of depth and the
functionalities o Rotaract.
By conducting separate orientation programs on Rotaract for newly intake batches, as
part of their orientation program, provide a brief overview of the club 's recent
achievements and upcoming projects and activities. And, several club members share
their experiences to give prospects a sense of the club 's culture.
Members' involvement in club activities, meetings, conferences, projects and leadership
feels a strong club attachment because they enjoy the friendships and fellowships that
come with being Rotaractors. They are motivated to put extra effort into club activities
and projects, and they feel proud to tell others about their club's impressive work.
During the pandemic, the online quarantine challenges strengthens the bond with the
participants, and they feel the club's connection and that they are trying to contribute
with their level best.
Induction and termination process
The general induction process for a club member is by sending an application after
participating an orientation program or total of three (03) meetings. In addition, a
member can propose a new candidate or make a request to admit the candidate as
mentioned in the club bylaws.
The club approve or reject a candidate’s membership within seven (07) days and notify
the candidate of its decision.
When considering the termination process; if a club member is absent for a maximum
of three (03) meetings or projects, he/she will recieve a termination warning. And if
he/she fails to submit a reasonable excuse within 14 days of period since the warning,
the member will be terminated from the club.
The above-mentioned termination process applies to all the members of the club
including the executive committee of the club.

Lead & Inspire
Completed on: - 11th April 2020
The project “Lead and Inspire” is a professional development project conducted by the
Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City and Rotaract Club of NIBM to help people to earn
money and be productive during quarantine and to improve public speaking skills. The
project was previously planned to hold on the month of March as a live workshop. But
because of the sudden pandemic situation which came across the country we all had to
step down and cancel the project planning. But when the time passes with the
lockdown and quarantine situation, we thought of doing the Lead and Inspire concept
virtually with some productive topics which will be useful to all the Rotaractors and non
Rotaractors to learn something which is effective and worth. That is because everyone
was stucked and home, some of them were working from home, but in the other hand
some of them doesn’t even get their monthly salaries, also there were people who love
to learn new things in their free time and young entrepreneurs. Also, the project was
successfully concluded from the Zoom app with more than 80 participants. It includes
International Participants/rotaractors as well.

Ready for a Challenge in Quarantine Time?
Conducted during: - 1st April 2020 to 8th May 2020
This was a club service project conducted during the quarantine period through online,
we initiated this project in the second week of quarantine. Our project was termed as
‘’READY FOR A CHALLENGE IN QUARANTINE TIME?’’, which was made just for the music
lovers, singers, meme creators and for the dancers. We wanted to keep our audience
away from getting bored during the quarantine, therefore we came up with this
challenge to encourage the music lovers and to showcase their talents. The challenge
was about to send a small video clip of their very own song cover or a dance video and
the winners were featured on our official page, based on the likes they received for their
video. Our panel of judges selected the best contestants out of all and handed over to
the members of the club to vote for their favorite contestants in order to prize the final
Winner of the Quarantine Challenge. Project was successfully concluded after a month
with 39 participants.
Some impacts of this projects were,
Got opportunity to show case their talents.
Improve their music interest and their skills in singing and dancing with the love
and support their received from the online audience.
To spend the quarantine in an effective manner.
Inspiration that they received by the online viewers for their talents.

Golden Hour
Completed on: - 2nd May 2020, 17th May 2020
This project “Golden Hour” is a Club Service and a public relation project organized by
Rotaract Club of NIBM as we realized that a dose of healthy entertainment was needed
during the time of quarantine. As the young generation became restless and bored, we
decided to have an entertainment session via Instagram for the fellow rotaractors and
non rotaractors to have some peace of mind at the comfort of their own homes.
We invited a singer to have a brief chat about their lives and to spread some positivity
and inspire their audience which is mainly students and the younger generation that
looks up to them. We also managed to listen to a few live songs of theirs during the
session. The first session of Golden Hour featured singer, rapper and songwriter
Randhir Witana who was an icon among the hip hop music industry of Sri Lanka and the
second session featured by the singer and upcoming artist Ridma Weerawardena who
does classical and modern fusion style songs.
Some impacts of this project were,
Strength the club PR and engaging members.

Our Environmental Service project was under the theme of ‘’PLANT A SEED, GROW A
TREE’’, this was conducted via social media during the longest quarantine period. We got
the maximum support from the lectures of NIBM and NIC in order to encourage the
students. This project took place for a week time period, our active participants had to
take a picture with the plant they planted and had to send it to us through Instagram.
We received more than 15 – 20 pictures per day, and totally we received 120+
photographs of our ever active participates with their plants. This project was a success.
All we want was to plant a seed for our Future Benefit.

This Blood donation project is a community service project conducted by the Rotaract
Club of NIBM along with the salon Kesha to get 100% clean blood to use to save the
lives of patients as a special request made by the National Blood Center as there has
been a shortage of blood in the blood bank with the rise of the Dengue disease in the
country. With the permission and the necessary instructions given by the National
Blood Transfusion Service to carry out the project on the 05th of June 2020 a Poson
poya day from 9.00 A.M to 3.00 P.M and also a day where an island wide curfew had
been imposed by the Government where permission from the Medical Officer of Health
Office Gothatuwa and the Walikada Police has been received to carry out this project
under strict safety measures due to Covid-19 global pandemic. Though we wanted to
finish the project by 3pm, it was extended till 5pm due to large number of participants.
The project was successfully concluded with more than 200 blood donors.
Some impacts of this project were,
The blood bank could use blood in any state of health-related emergencies in the
future.
Many patients’ lives would be saved from critical illnesses and will be living a long
and a healthy life.
15 | P a g e
Relationships with the National Blood Transfusion service and other parties
involved in this project have been developed, and in instances of shortage of
blood in the blood bank, to carry out a phase 2 project it would be easy and
convenient to get their help and support.
